Tianmen Mountain Cable Car

Spanning a distance of 7,455 meters, the Tianmen Mountain (Tianmen Shan) cableway is considered the longest cable car ride in the world. It departs from downtown Zhangjiajie and takes you directly to the mountain's summit. The entire journey lasts about 28 minutes, during which you can enjoy panoramic views of Zhangjiajie City and its stunning natural surroundings. You’ll glide over rooftops, fields, lakes, forests, and hills. A round-trip cable car ride is included in the Tianmen Mountain entrance fee.
The lower station of the Tianmen Mountain Cable Car is located in downtown Zhangjiajie, about 1 kilometer from Zhangjiajie Railway Station (张家界站), and is easily accessible by foot. The upper station is situated at the edge of the mountain summit.
Warm tip: At the top of Tianmen Mountain, there is also a Forest Sightseeing Cable Car that ferries visitors from Yunmen Fairy Peak (云梦仙顶) to the opposite peak, where Tianmen Mountain Temple (天门山寺) is located. The sightseeing cable car costs ¥25 for a one-way trip. If you're interested, you can take a lift to the upper cable car station or Yunmen Fairy Peak to give it a try.

The Bailong Elevator, also known as the Hundred Dragons Elevator, is the tallest outdoor elevator in the world. It is located within the Zhangjiajie National Forest Park, the central scenic zone of Zhangjiajie. The elevator takes visitors from the base of Yuanjiajie to the mountain top, offering access to the breathtaking views of Avatar Mountains. It also provides a convenient way to descend the mountain after a hike. While hiking to the top of Yuanjiajie takes at least 2 hours, the Bailong Elevator gets you there in just 2 minutes.
Zhangjiajie National Forest Park is vast, with five different entrances. The most convenient entrances to access the Bailong Elevator are the south gate at Zimugang Ticket Station (梓木岗门票站) and the east gate at Wujiayu Ticket Station (吴家裕门票站). From these entrances, you can take free shuttle buses directly to the elevator’s lower station.

Zhangjiajie National Forest Park is the most famous and first discovered area of the Wulingyuan Scenic Area. Located on its west side, Huangshizhai (黄石寨) offers some of the best views of the park’s iconic sky-high pillars. There’s a scenic hiking loop at the summit, which takes about 1.5-2 hours to complete. To reach Huangshizhai, you can either hike or take a cable car. Hiking takes about an hour from the base, while the cable car will get you to the top in around 6 minutes. If you’re planning to extend your hike along Golden Whip Stream, it’s recommended to use the cable car for both ascending and descending.
Among the five entrances to Zhangjiajie National Forest Park, the Forest Park Ticket Station (森林公园门票站) also known as the South Gate, is the closest access point to Huangshizhai. After entering, walk to Oxygen Square (大氧吧广场), where you’ll find signs for the trailhead to Huangshizhai as well as free shuttle buses to the lower cable car station. Take the shuttle if you prefer the cable car, or head to the trail for a rewarding hike.

Ten-mile Gallery is a valley at the base of Tianzi Mountain, while the other attractions are located at the summit.
There are three routes to the top. The fastest option is the Tianzi Mountain Cable Car, which is the longest and highest in the national park, taking about 10 minutes to reach the summit. Alternatively, you can hike to the top from the base. Choose your route based on your schedule, energy level, and preferences. The most popular way to explore Yangjiajie is by starting in Yuanjiajie. Visitors typically begin by exploring the narrow Avatar Mountains in Yuanjiajie, then take a free shuttle bus to Yangjiajie.
