Life is a journey. Having explored numerous places on earth, to me, China is one of the top three fascinating countries I have spent my time or life with -- breathtaking landscape, sophisticated ancient arts and philosophy, diverse local and ethnic culture and cuisine. With her excellent services, the travel consultant Wing Zeng from China Discovery has brought me a wonderful experience with our recent private adventure in Guilin, Yangshuo, Longji Rice Terrace, Xian and Luoyang. She was very professional, detail oriented, and organized. In addition, she has great knowledge about the tours, hotels, airlines, and trains at various locations in China.

First time with China Discovery.

Everything to the local guide, driver, accommodation, food and sight seeing was well arranged.

Local guide, Safina at Zhangjiajie was attentive and good. As it was private tour, we get to dictate our own pace.

At the end of March, I and my family went to Zhangjiajie, Furong zhen, Fenghuang, Guilin, Longsheng and Yangshuo for 9 days trip.

Our travel consultant Ms. Shirley Yang from China discovery had arranged a wonderful tour for us. She help us organized everything for us very well. Our zhangjiajie tour guide Ms Jenny is the best ever tour guide I have ever met. And the driver is also a very nice person.

I have been visiting China for many years and this was my first time depending on a travel agency, Chengdu Bamboo International Tours Co., in China. I picked it from a general web inquiry I sent and it is one of three companies responded to my inquiry. I went to Guiling, Yongshuo, Longsheng, Lonji Rice Terrace, Li River Cruise, Chongqing where I visited Wulong Fairy Mountain , Wulong Karst Geology Park . Dazu Rock Carvings and all the attractions in the city; completing my journey with a river cruise through the three gorges down Yangtze river. The length of my trip was from March 8 till March 22. During this time I had to leverage China's bullet train to travel from one place to another. I was extremely satisfied with my choice of method to tour this time. One initial discussion with my highly efficient, professional, knowledgeable travel agent - Ms. Reya Lei. She understands my needs and proposed itinerary based on my interests. several written communications to solidify my final itinerary. She is highly responsive in answering my questions in writing. The local guides she picked were professional, experienced and best of all they were all proud of their jobs and eager to provide the customer services possible. Additionally, these guides are very flexible and alway accommodating my requests. I highly recommend using this method to tour China if you prefer a more intimate experience. I am already thinking where to visit 2026.

Some suggestions: 1. Decide the time and general locations you are interested when contacting them. 2. Be clear to let her know your interests - in my case, I did not want big cities , nor shopping but prefer nature and hiking. 3. Give her some idea how you want to travel - type of accommodations, method of traveling from one city to another - I picked bullet train, no flights. 4. be sure to check weather forecast before you go - in my case , I was well prepared for light rain; cold and hot weather. Hope htis is helpful to hose who read this.

Me and my husband totally enjoyed our 8 day tour of Louyang , Xian and Guilin. We put our total trust in Vivien Li of China Discovery to help us arrange this tour for our golden anniversary get away.

It is exactly what we had hoped for. Enjoy many beautiful sights and learned much about ancient Chinese history through many dynasties and the culture.

Me and my husband visited south China during 2 weeks in March and we had an amazing time! Rita Yiang at China Discovery was so comitted to help me set up the itinerary and everything worked out perfectly! She thought of every little detail!

We travelled about 4000 km by train, car and boat and at every new stop there was a guide and driver waiting for us. We went on a private tour for 4 people, 8 days to Guilin and Zhangjiajie + Feng Huang Ancient City. Generally, we really do not like joining a tour or having a guide on our journeys. We've been to China several times before. After doing some research, we found that navigating through various ticketing for attractions was difficult in China these days. We had a very smooth and enjoyable trip through arrangement with April from China Discovery. The guides, Alice in Guilin and David in Zhangjiajie were very pleasant, flexible, knowledgeable and non-intrusive.

We found China Discovery almost by accident on the Internet and decided to ask for a quote. The Agency is phenomenal: everything is tailored to own‘s taste, there is always a contact person from the HQ available in case of need; the guides are competent, polite, flexible. On the base of our experience I would never recommend a do-it-yourself travel, also because the language barrier can be a big issue here. Our itinerary was Shanghai-Beijing-Guilin and was impeccably organized by our consultant KELLY: she has done a phantastic job and was always available to support us. We also want to mention our guides: the Shanghai-enthusiast Vivi, who would make even a stone love Shanghai, and the lovely Coco in Beijing; her knowledge and passion for history has infected us. My friends and I had a wonderful holiday in guilin. It was very memorable and delightful. The trip was meticulously well organised by Mr Wonder, our tour consultant. Mr Wonder was very patient in answering our questions and understanding of some of our concerns, given our age. Thanks to Mr Wonder"s itinerary arrangement, the tour was very relaxing and unhurried and that certainly adds to our enjoyment.

7 Days Tour: Guilin, Ping'an, Yangshuo, Xinpeng, and Zhaoxing

Traveling with China Discovery is a breeze! This is made possible by my travel consultant, Ms. Reya Lei, who has put in a lot of effort to ensure the tour proceeds smoothly without a hitch.

Knowing that my mother-in-law is 85 years old, Ms. Reya Lei was considerate when planning our tour, as in booking hotels at Ping'an, ensuring easy access without subjecting her to climbing a few flights of stairs to the hotel. Upon our request to switch to another hotel, she was kind enough to check on accessibility. This applies to our train seats as well, ensuring that the seats are near the exit and entry of the car. Throughout organizing the tour, Ms. Reya Lei has given us invaluable advice, taking into consideration our preferences and concerns. Patiently answering our numerous queries and ever-changing the itinerary!

Our guide is a fluent English-speaking guide, Mr. Steven Deng, who practically took care of every aspect of the tour, making traveling easy. It was considerate of Mr. Deng to switch to bilingual for the benefit of our elderly traveller. A lot of information was provided by Mr. Deng, not only about the places we visited but also about culture, history, traditions, etc. He also went out of his way to show us places of interest near our hotel, knowing that we would like to check them. As for our meals, it was a combination of signature and local dishes. We can sense that Mr. Deng took great care in selecting the dishes. We are happy that our guide was attentive and accommodating.

As for our driver, Mr. Yang, we have no worries at all about his driving as he navigates through sharp bends and winding roads. Mr. Yang is a very careful and considerate driver. He will honk at every sharp bend to warn oncoming vehicles.

I would not hesitate to recommend China Discovery and Ms.Reya Lei for a well-organized tour. We enjoyed our tour and appreciate that Ms.Reya Lei checked in on us on the last two days of our tour when we were on our own.

We were two Australian couples who did an 11 day Custom tour of China with China Discovery. Jack Li organised the tour for us and did an incredible job! I wanted to use a domestic tour company and China Discovery was recommended by a friend who used them earlier this year.

There was an early hiccup where my emails were intercepted and scammers nearly managed to steal the entire funds for the trip (so pay very close attention to the emails you send and receive. Especially ones discussing the transfer of funds!). But after we had worked out what had happened I took the plunge with China Discovery and am incredibly relieved that we did. Our Tour of Beijing, Xian, Guilin/Yangshao, and Shanghai was fabulous! The guides were Brilliant and everything went off without a hitch. Their english skills and historical knowledge of their towns were excellent. Eva in Beijing was particularly wonderful. I will definitely use China Discovery again and recommend them to anyone wanting to travel China. Jacks patience with me while I chopped and changed what I wanted to include (or not) in the itinerary was legendary and very much appreciated.

All the private and organised public Transport was excellent and the hotels were very good and in excellent locations in each city.

Took a tour with this company to sightsee on a cruise along the Li River from Guilin / Zhujiang Pier to Yangshuo Town. Our English speaking guide Oscar arrived at our hotel promptly and drove us to the pier to board the cruise. He accompanied us on the cruise and pointed out the important scenic landmarks from Guilin to Yangshuo. We also did a city tour of Guilin the next day. The tour guide / driver was very professional. Allowed us to things at our own pace since we booked a private tour. I highly recommend this tour company if you're considering visiting this area!

This trip to Guilin and Guangxi province was incredible in terms of landscapes discovery, minority peoples, food and sightseings ! I enjoy this province that is not very well known. And the boat cruise on th Li River among the karstic hills was just amazing. A trip worth to do... and a very good, smooth and friendly organization as usual with China Discovery.

14 days Beijing, Xian, Chengdu, Mount Emei, Guilin, Yangshuo, Longsheng, Shanghai. Travel consultant Wing Zeng has arranged the tour and arrangements were perfect. Selection of hotels were comfortable, sightseeing itinerary were perfect. The local chinese foods recommended by the tour guide were delicious and it was a different experience. All the tour guides are more experienced (Lily ~ Beijing, Waldner ~ Xian, Sarah ~ Chengdu, Lyla ~ Gulin, Mark ~ Shanghai). It was a memorable tour.

We were on a private 4 day tour to Guilin, Longsheng and Yangshuo from Guangzhou and had a wonderful, enjoyable and memorable time. Wing, our travel consultant, was most helpful, quick in responding to my emails, detailed and kept in touch with me during the trip to ensure that all went well. Our driver and tour guide Steven, were friendly, polite, knowledgeable and enthusiastic. Due to some last minute changes, we had to cancel some activities and we were pleasantly surprised when we were given refunds (totally unexpected!) and Wing helped us to change and upgraded our train tickets at no extra cost. Booked a 3 week private tour with china discovery. Originally booked for 2020 but postponed due to COVID. China discovery were great holding the holiday until we were able to go. Once we got to china we had an amazing time the tour guides were all excellent and knowledgeable, the stories and history of this country is amazing. The scenery is beautiful and the sites we visited exceeded our expectations.

To avoid trial and error in short trip, but still want to move independently, I chose private guided tour of China Discovery (moderator Zoe). We visited classic Guilin, Yanshuo and Longji, but with help of our guide Daniel, we also visited off the beaten track site including Old Zhuang village. Hotel and meals were beyond expectation. You need to research the area and just give what you want to do and where to visit, then they will make the itinerary as your avatar. We went on a 8days trip to Guilin/Yangshou as recommended by Rita Jiang. It we an amazing and wonderful experience. Kenny,the local guide and the driver Moo was fantastic, knowledgeable and ever helpful. Will definitely travel with China Discovery on all futures trip to China.

Сложный маршрут Beijing - Xi’an - Wudangshan - Changa -Zhangjiajie - Fenghuang - Guilin - Yanshou - Shanghai был разработан с учетом всех наших пожеланий. Не могу характеризовать нас, как легких туристов. Мы достаточно требовательны к сервису, транспорту и экскурсионной программе. April внимательно и профессионально спланировала логистику, подсказала оптимальные варианты переездов, организовала все трансферы, экскурсии и гидов. Помогла с бронированием отелей. За всю поездку не было ни одного сбоя, опоздания, отмен или каких-то трудностей. В каждом городе нас встречал гид и водитель. Билеты на все достопримечательности были куплены агентством заранее, где было возможно, мы пользовались VIP проходами, чтобы не стоять в очередях. Все гиды с хорошим английским языком и отличным знанием регионов. Общение с гидами - большой бонус для тех, кто хочет не только посмотреть достопримечательности, но и попробовать разобраться в культуре и традициях Китая. Каждый их гидов и Mr Lang в Beijing и Swen в Wudangshan и Lynn в Yanshou и многие другие сделали все, чтобы наше путешествие прошло гладко и незабываемо. Они с радостью помогали с заселением в отели и в выборе местных ресторанов, рассказывали, показывали, заботились и водили нас за руку, как маленьких детей). Очень приятно, что агентство China Discovery не только безупречно выполнило свою работу, но и ни разу не пыталось навязать нам какие-то дополнительные опции. Мы очень довольны и безусловно рекомендуем их услуги для организации поездки в Китай. Конечно, все можно делать самостоятельно, и мы тоже любим самостоятельные путешествия, но Китай не такое простое направление, и вы точно потеряете много времени и сил, особенно не владея языком. Не надо испытывать иллюзий, практически никто и нигде, кроме крупных 5* отелей не говорит по английски. Я имею ввиду вообще никак! Поддержка гидов бесценна, даже если вы вооружились словарем. Думаю, лучшей рекомендацией будет сказать, что мы уже приступили к планированию поездки в другие регионы Китая и поедем снова с China Discovery. 2. Скачайте WeChat и Alipay

3. Интернет работает с ограничениями, для использования Google, WhatsApp, Telegram,Instagram и др нужен VPN! В больших отелях тоже- не надейтесь на wi-fi ! Вариант или роуминг вашей карты или vpn, мы купили заранее специальную сим карту на Озоне и все работало.

4. Курение сигарет очень распространено в Китае, уточните заранее, если вас это беспокоит.

5. В большинстве достопримечательностей удобно расположено много туалетных комнат, но почти никогда нет бумаги и мыла.

6. Нет смысла везти большой гардероб, все одеваются практично.

From the time of contacting China Discovery tours, to completion of our tour, I can not be more grateful and thankful to an exceptional touring team. Kelly our tour organiser was professional, realistic and accommodating. Her itinerary was perfect and always explained matters clearly ensuring each day of our tour was well paced to our liking but also enriching as I was travelling with my elderly mum and daughter. She also changed our itinerary according to our needs and kept us updated throughout our time in China. Due to unforseen circumstances there were certain planned activities which my my mum couldn't complete. Kelly and her team accommodated more appropriate activities and arranged refund accordingly ( which I was not expecting at all ). The tour was transparent with no hidden agenda. At each city both the tour guide and drivers were consistently knowledgeable and helpful. Understood local flavours and foods and recommended accordingly. From time of pick up to touring to arranging transfers. I would recommend this tour company for any visit to China.

My wife and I just completed a 21-days China tour from HK to Beijing with China Discory. From the start, our trip consultant, Jack Li, did a wonderful job of keeping us informated of trip options and pricing. His responses were always prompt. China Discovery toke care of all the planning including transportations, hotels, and entry tickets to sites. Local drivers picked us up and dropped us off at each location. When we had some minor glitch in pickups, I could always communicate with Jack for assistnace.

All of our local guides were excellent and engaging! They provided information on sites, cultures, histories, people, and foods. They helped us navigate the no-so-easy access to local attractions and best way to avoid the overwheming crowds at many sites. For this trip, they were the heart of China Discovery and made the trip enjoyable and meaningful! All of our local guides were independent workers but they all liked working for China Discovey because it is very responsive to their issues and customer issues.

Our local guide at Zhangjaijei even helped us navigate the Chinese health system when my wife had to visit a hospital for an unexpected illness. He took us to the hospital at night, stayed with us through the visit, and brought us back to the hotel after the visit.

In my opinion, China Discovery is the best way to visit China if you don't have local connections or comfortable with the Chinese language. Let them do all the hardwork and you just show up and go!

My trip to Guilin was successfully planned & executed with the help of Reya, our travel consultant with Chengdu Bamboo tours (part of China Discovery).

From the very start, Reya was very efficient & responsive to all my queries & doubts. She catered to our needs & even contacted us throughout our tour to see how everything was. She even helped me with my domestic flight check in twice, when I couldn't get through to the airline.

The hotels, tour guide, Allen & driver Deng with plentiful local cuisine completed the wonderful experience we had.

Our group of 8 seniors have just finished a wonderful 13-day private tour to Guizhou and Guilin arranged by Tracy. From the first email, Tracy had shown her willingness to help. She had been courteous and efficient. All my requests were attended promptly. Sceneries in both Guizhou and Guilin are spectacular. Everything was well arranged. The guides and drivers in both Guizhou and Guilin were caring. Guilin guide Kenny was particularly knowledgeable. It was a wonderful and memorable trip and we all enjoyed the tour. We will book with China Discovery again and have no hesitation to recommend China Discovery to anyone who is interested in traveling in China.

My husband and I spent 12 days in China from Shanghai, to the cruise on the Yangtze River, Mountain resorts & Beijing. We had five star hotels , first class travel(they call business class), it was amazing.

Jack Li set up everything as requested and was easy to communicate with via email.

The people are the nicest and I felt extremely safe in China the whole time.

Be sure to request phone number information for all your private drivers and tour guides because the Chinese people will let you use their phones and they will also communicate with you with these people if you have any hiccups along the way. if you have to get a bus for the Yangtze Cruise be sure to get directions for Yangtze Cruise tour bus office where you have to get your ticket. Also ask for which exit at the airport your driver will be waiting for you (with his sign & your name on it).

Go to China- it’s one of the best trips I have ever taken & I have been around the world with my husband.

Amazing and enjoyable private 21 days tour of China starting from Huangshan and finishing off in Shangri-la. Tour was planned and organised by Leo Li from China Discovery, all queries and requests were very promptly dealt with by Leo, very impressed by his service. Our tour took us from Huangshan, HongCun and Xidi villages, Longsheng rice terraces, Yangshuo/Guilin, Zhangjiajie, Fenghuang, Yuangyang rice terraces, Lijiang and Shangri-la. All transport and accomodation details were taken care off. Tour guides and drivers were all excellent, they were all very service orientated and professional, caring too! Will not hesitate to use them again! We are already planning for our next March/April 2025 trip to the Guizhou province with China Discovery.

We were a little scared beause we are from Chile, South America, and the possibility that the tour were an scam it was present, however it works perfectly, our agent, Tracy Tan, help us in every moment to do the itinerary and with every question we had in the progress.

Our guides had an incredible good spanish and were excellent, with a lot of knowdlege for the sites we visited and a lof of tips to stay in China.

Last week we returned from our 15 day China holiday.

Every day a driver with a private guide, who gave just a little more than average. Everything perfectly organized and timed. A very busy program, but because everything is arranged for you, it does not feel like pressure. We started in Shanghai, then the Yangtze river cruise, Ping An, Yangshuo with half day cruise, Guilin, Zhangjiajie en Beijing.

Tracy was our travel consultant and she respond very quickly. Also a fantastic guide at every location with a lot of knowledge about the place and the history. A holiday we will never forget.

This was a private tour, Guide, Driver and me. I chose a private tour as opposed to a group tour to be able to enjoy and immerse myself in all that visiting China has to offer. I contacted 2 other private tour companies with the same requirements asked of China Discovery. China Discovery, Rita, was the first to respond to my inquiry. Great Wall, Forbidden City, Terracotta Warriors, Ancient City, Jade Dragon Snow Mountain, Blue Moon Valley, Naxi Village, Shigu Town, Songzanlin Monastery, Pudacuo National Park, Li River Cruise and Reed Flute Cave to name a few sights.

3 High-Speed Train rides, 1 flight all arranged by Rita. Guides were a big help in teaching me how to navigate and understand the train stations.

All the hotels were great and choice of restaurants around hotels were good.

Visiting China was a retirement goal, and my expectations were exceeded. I recommend a private tour for touring China.

We were a family of four who wanted to visit China. We came with a list of things we wanted to do; ranging from the obvious, Great Wall, to the more obscure, Chinese Opera, from the active, cycling around Xian, to the passive, cruising down the Li River.

Right from the start Rita was superb, organising an itinerary and adapting it as we asked for more. She was the model of efficiency and always accommodating to our desires. Everything was organised superbly, faultless.

We ended up with a 5 city stay. Every guide and driver at each location was fantastic. Kai, Timo, Kevin and Peter all had good English, excellent local knowledge and were all punctual and polite throughout. They were also flexible enough to meet our needs and still complete all our chosen activities. It was frenetic, but absolutely superb.

Each hotel was really good quality and we couldn't fault any of them. Clean, friendly and efficient, they all got the thumbs up, giving us both privacy and family time. Their locations were superb, allowing us to go out and explore on our own on some evenings. Particular mention must go to The Bamboo Leaf, the perfect end to a non-stop 10days, quiet and friendly, a special place to relax on the last night.

My mom and I recently completed a 3 week dream trip to China. I spent months researching our trip to China - it’s how I found China Discovery and we are very glad that we did!

We are from the UK and have no previous experience of China and no previous experience of a tour, although we have travelled independently quite a bit. China Discovery offered us a perfect solution. Such a trip seemed daunting for us to visit independently so we booked a 3 week private tour. We had a long list of requirements and Jack Li from China Discovery put together an itinerary that was perfect for us. It was fast paced but covered everything we wanted it to. The communication beforehand was great, our questions were answered promptly and changes were made to make sure everything was exactly right.

We returned from our trip 2 weeks ago - it was the trip of a lifetime and we could not have been any happier with our tour and the service we received. China Discovery provided us with a driver and with a guide fluent in English at each location. The guides were amazing - always knowledgeable, accommodating and able to show us the best of every location. They worked together with the drivers and ensured we got to where we needed to. We experienced things we could never have done on our own. We travelled by car, boat and high speed train - all excellent. The accommodation chosen for us was great - our favourite was the Yangshuo Mountain Retreat and we would recommend this if you are in the area.

The tour was fro 4 days 3nighs - Guilin Tour. Very well organised trip starting from first contact. Pace was just nice. Hotels accommodation selected are high standards and very well positions. We just came back from a private 22 day private trip arranged by China Discovery. Our travel consultant Jack Li, was patient in planning our trip and gave us a lot of good information. He was able to change our travel plans at the last minute also. Communication was fast and efficient. The travel guides we had were also very knowledgeable and kind. Some speak very good English, but some not so good. The hotels that they booked were above our expectations. Mostly are 5 stars. And the restaurant for our lunch were pretty good as well. Overall, we had an enjoyable trip and I recommend Jack Li for his efficient and good planning.

I found China Discovery on the Internet and I asked them for a customized private tour of multiple cities across China for 4 people (two retired couples). Wonder Wang was the travel consultant responded to me with a proposal which included Beijing, Xian, Chengdu, Guilin, Yangtze River Cruise, Zhangjiajie, Fenghuang Ancient City, Shanghai, Xiamen and Wuyishan. Wonder was very responsive to our questions and provided updates, made adjustments to our travel plan before and during our travel. He made all arrangements for hotels, inter-cities trains/flights, local (English speaking) tour guides, drivers and vehicles. We traveled with ease and enjoyed all the destinations. We were met by local tour guides at each destination train station/airport. They were all friendly and attentive to our needs. We appreciate their efforts, together with the drivers, to navigate through sometimes heavy traffics to bring us to all attractions as planned in the itinerary. Hotel accommodations were exceptional. Local lunches were tasty and in large portions.

Tracy from China Discovery who helped to organise our tour is brilliant! She replied to all our queries promptly before and during the trip. If there was any issue during our trip, she acted and resolved them immediately and willing to go the extra mile to ensure our trip was an enjoyable experience.

We booked a 10-day private tour for 2 people with Rita Jiang, China Discovery. Start from Shanghai, flight to Chongqing, 3 nights Yangtze River cruise to Yangshuo, from there transport by car to Zhangjiajie, 3 nights, visit to Zhangjiajie National Park, Tianmen Mountain with Glass Skywalk and Tianmen Carve. Our guide was Tony. Onward transport by express train to Guilin. There we were already met by Peter, our guide, and taken to the hotel. The next day we went on a river cruise on the Li River to Yangshuo, in the evening we saw the Impression Liu Sanjie show. We had booked a higher seat category, which included private access and covered seats. The surcharge was manageable - the show was another highlight of our trip. Highly recommended. Other attractions in Yangshuo were Ruyi Scenic Park, in Guilin Elephant Trunk Hill, Reed Flute Cave, Daxu Ancient Town and a trip to the Longji rice terraces. The entire planning worked more than perfectly. Rita had already warned us in advance that there would be a lot of tourists due to the Labor Day holidays. In Zhangjiajie we decided not to use the Bailong Elevator. The wait to go up would have taken 3 hours. Tony, our guide, was prepared and had a plan B, we hiked 8 km to another cable car and had a great view of the national park. Tony spoke perfect English and gave us a lot of interesting information. We can say the same about Peter, our guide in Guilin. He looked after us very well and was extremely concerned about our safety. Both guides brought us safely to the train. The restaurants they chose were absolutely delicious. Our wish to change the 2nd class ticket we had booked for the train to Guilin to 1st class was made possible by Rita, even though almost everything was fully booked. Rita looked after us very well from the first contact. From the tips for the trip to being reachable during the trip. Our flight from Shanghai to Chongqing on Sunday morning was canceled. Rita tried to contact us several times at 6 a.m. to inform us. She had already booked a new flight. We felt well looked after and informed throughout the entire trip. The travel information sent in advance was very helpful. The hotels were all surprisingly nice, we often got an upgrade and therefore very large rooms. The WeChat app was very helpful. In China, communication, payment and taxis (Didi) are mainly done via the app. Foreigners can store their credit card here. Rita and the guides were available at all times via WeChat. We booked mobile data through Holafly. A little more expensive, but with unlimited data volume. Google Translator, Google Maps and WhatsApp worked via the stored VPN. We would book with Rita again in a heartbeat and recommend her to friends. 10 out of 10 points for Rita, Tony, Peter and our drivers and a big thank you for the very impressive and eventful trip.

I decided early on I would use a tour operator for my first trip to China. I was 60, traveling alone, female, and only spoke a little Mandarin. I actually chose another China-based agency first, one with glowing reviews like China Discovery, but quickly dropped them after sluggish response from my assigned tour consultant. What a contrast when I reached out to China Discovery. Wonder Wang, my assigned consultant, reached out pretty much as soon as the time difference allowed. This was consistent throughout our correspondence. We spent a good few weeks going back and forth tailoring my trip, which I wanted to be focused on history, so I requested tour guides who could speak to that. Wonder was game to any request I threw at him. We had one hiccup in planning that he quickly fixed right before my departure- a reminder to me that it's important to be clear about what you want in every detail. I received a confirmation letter that I used for my visa application (though an invite letter was not a requirement at the time). I also received a file with good-to-know's for traveling through China (tips, currency etc). You can choose to have China Discovery handle every arrangement or part of your trip (e.g. if you want to handle hotels and/or domestic transportation yourself). I asked for a different hotel in Beijing because I wanted something more traditional - a siheyuan in a hutong neighborhood- and that is what I got. All the hotels were different and all had their own appeal. I really loved going from something that was 100 years old to ultra-modern to rural retreat.

I also specified I wanted to go first class on the bullet train between Beijing to Xi'an (minimal price difference) and to ride the maglev to the Shanghai airport. In addition, because I was only bringing carry on, I wanted to upgrade seats on my two domestic flights. All were handled by Wonder.

In each city, I had a different tour guide and a driver. Except for one, each guide was fluent in English which allowed for some great conversation. The tour guide would meet me at the train station or airport upon arrival and then see me off to the next city, taking me as far as possible- to my seat on the train or to security at airports. They helped with check-in so I didn't have to navigate around the language barrier. They even carted my carry on for me.

Before this trip, I’d never traveled with a personal guide before. It was really liberating to not have to sweat the details, worry about getting lost, or navigate a foreign airport. In the past, working through these challenges was part of the attraction of traveling, because I wanted to learn to navigate like a native. But this time, I’m very glad I chose to go the route of a customized tour and grateful that Wonder and all the tour guides were there with me. I’d recommend them to anyone, especially anyone with any trepidation. You will be cared for.

If you are a first timer headed toward China, here are some tips you may find useful:

1 Get an esim before you leave. Aeralo worked seamlessly for me and I used my iPhone throughout my trip (data only) and had access to my email, texting (iMessage should work everywhere since it’s not SMS), and apps.

2 Sign up for a couple of VPN’s before you leave. As what works constantly changes, do your research on travel forums

3 Set up Alipay or Wechat before you go on your phone. Alipay worked sometimes for me, sometimes not. I didn’t try Wechat. Cash will do if you’re okay with a chance of not receiving change. Credit cards will work only at hotels or places that cater to foreigners. I needed very little spending money (Breakfast and lunch were covered by the tour).

4 You will encounter squat toilets. Some places will have both squat and sit so check all the stall doors if your heart is set on a sit toilet.

5 Bring toilet paper or tissue with you when you go out and remember to throw it in the bin, not the toilet.

6 Accept it will be very, very crowded at any of the standard attractions if you’re going during tourist season. Watch out for the heat at top attractions.

7 When you go through airport security, take out your electronics and that includes any power banks you packed. Make sure your power bank rating is marked or it will be confiscated, plus it has to fall below the limit. I didn’t have to take off my shoes or take out my liquids bag.

8 If you’re bringing carry on, check the limitations. Some airlines limit carry on to a single 5kg item and if you want more, you have to upgrade your seat. Whether they check carry on is your risk, but if it’s 5kg, it’s probably easy for them to guess by sight if you’ll be over

9 Lean on your tour guide. They will bend over backwards to help you. Thank you, Kai, Waldner, Daniel, Qi, and Liang. Thank you to my ninja drivers. And thank you, Wonder. I collected a lifetime of experiences in ten days thanks to you all.

We were initially apprehensive about booking a tour directly with a Chinese tour operator but we needn’t have worried. April, our rep from the office was very patient when we made alterations and amendments until we were happy with our itinerary. From start to finish everything went so smoothly and efficiently. We were met easily at each train station or airport by guides/drivers who checked whether we needed to use restrooms before any journey. They were all, without exception knowledgeable, helpful and friendly, assisting us with menu choices so that we could enjoy Chinese cuisine that was also comfortable for our Western palates. This was our first visit to China and obtaining a visa was a bit problematic but we enjoyed it so much that we are planning a further trip while they are still valid and will definitely be using China Discovery!

Overall we had good times during the trip. Great cities, hotels, food and amazing sceneries throughout our visit. Evelyn Ma and Yangtze River Cruises company had tried everything they could to fulfill our needs. Other than mishaps in pick up arrangements they did excellent jobs in meeting our expectations. Trip could have been much more enjoyable if people don’t smoke in public.

We have just returned from the trip of a lifetime organised by China Discovery. April our contact was fantastic ... helpful, patient and always available when needed. We travelled as a group of 4 , and the drivers and English speaking guides were all brilliant. We started in Beijing, took a train to Xian, a plane to Guilin, a car to Ping'an, a boat to Yangshuo, a train to spend a 3 night cruise on the Yangtze , and a train to Shanghai. Everything went to plan, on time and we were treated to fabulous food. The guides were great ... Linda (Beijing) was particularly caring, Gin, Oscar and Sandra were also excellent. Hotels were all better than expected, cars were comfortable , and train journeys were interesting and all ran to time !! We would have no hesitation in recommending this Company. The biggest issue we had was the hassle getting the visa but it was worth it !!

My wife and me took a 21-day private customised tour through China organised by Wonder, China Discovery. Wonder is an ideal travel consultant. He is highly competent, absolutely professional and flexible. Exept one also the local tour guides and drivers were very engaged and trusty. For travelling within China we used mainly the very efficient, very fast, comfortable and very punctual high speed trains. The selection of hotels (location and comfort) was also good. So, we were able to carry out our tour, which was quite ambitious and strict for our age (71 years), well. We can highly recommend China Discovery and personally Wonder.

I took a 13-Day private tour fo Beijin, Xi'an, Guilin, Yangchuo, Yangtze River Cruise and Shanghai. I first of all would like to thank China Discovery for such a great job before and during my trip. They promptly answered all of my questions and gave me peace of mind since I was traveling all by myself so far away from home. Alipay was a great suggestion because it not only helped with paying for just about anything but also kept us in touch throughout my trip with their chat feature. The trip you put together for me was exceptional, and along with some of the optional tours we added, and the cruise ship you picked made for a superb experience.

The hotels were very good, well located and clean, I was just a bit disappointed that most of the staff in the majority of hotels, even at the front desk, didn't speak English, but I was able to communicate through translation apps. The guides were excellent, their English was very good, they were very knowledgeable, attentive, flexible, and very helpful; what I'm very thankful for is that whenever I had train rides they helped me all the way into the train car, with my luggage and finding my seat, that meant a lot because without knowing Chinese I surely would have missed the train or gotten into the wrong one, they also gave me instructions as which way to go once I arrived to my destination to meet the guide. The vehicles and drivers were also very good.

The Victoria Sabrina cruise ship couldn't have been better, the staff and local guides with the exception of the very last one (I already contacted the cruise ship regarding this issue) were friendly and very very nice. There were very few non Chinese-speaking passengers but the cruise director made sure to take care of us at all times. They had shows, optional tours and activities that I enjoyed thoroughly.

I gladly recommend your company, I loved my China trip and if I had to do it all over again I wouldn't think twice about contacting Tracy and China Discovery!!!! Well done Tracy!

We flew into Guilin where we were met by our guide Steven. We visited the fantastic rice terraces with some great trekking through the villages. Then on to the river and on a trip up to Yangshuo seeing the site of the famous cormorant fisherman.

All was very well organised with great attention from our guide and driver. All accommodation was very comfortable and local food delicious. Samantha Peng was our contact at China discovery and she was very efficient answering all queries very quickly and being instrumental in the success of this private tour for just the two of us. We did a private customised 2 week trip to China with China Discovery.

From the planning stage the process was very quick and efficient. Johnson Wang replied to my emails very promptly and the itinerary was finalised to what we wanted.

The trip went smoothly. We all had pick ups at the airport at different times but that did not pose an issue.

The English speaking guides were mostly excellent and really made sure we had a good experience and looked after us very well.

Then at the end due to bad weather in one location we made last minute changes to our flights and once again Johnson and his team made these changes with a few hours notice for us.

I feel they really went above and beyond to make the trip the best experience for us.

The Most Amazing 21 Days - that is what I would name this vacation . If you really want to get to know the country, people, history and also see beautiful sceneries, then this is the trip for you.

The tour was well planned and we had very personal attention. The tour guide and driver would pick us up at the train station or airport, we then tour the particular city or town with them, had also some free time to explore on our own and then were brought again to the train station or airport. The tour guides were very knowledgeable and spoke good English. Since it was just my husband and I we could ask all the questions and could adjust schedule to weather and/or interests. The hotels were all 4 or 5 stars and were quite comfortable.

A highlight was also the River Cruise since we really could interact with the other guests, which in our case were Chinese traveling for Chinese New Year.

Here are the places we visited: Hong Kong, Guilin, Chengdu, Chongqing (start of river cruise), Zhangjiajie, Shanghai, Xian and Bejing.

Wonder from China Discovery was amazing organising a dream China Trip!

Was so good, we even have now booked and gone on 2 trips with them! The first was a 22 day trip going through all of the major sites in China: Beijing, Xi’an, Chengdu, Zhangjiajie, Guilin, Hangzhou, Hengdian, Shanghai. There was a guide and driver personally there to greet us at each location, and all the internal train tickets were included. So were the attraction tickets.

Note we were given the option to book our own hotels and pay for our own lunches. If you rather the tour company organise that yourself - go for it, that’s the default option. But I think paying for your own lunches at least gives you more flexibility. You can also negotiate the locations and itinerary to your own liking.

In terms of cost - for the 22 days (with 2 rest days) it was $7160 USD for two people - ie around $325USD per day for us as a couple (no lunches/hotels - but including all trains/tickets/transport).

It was such a professional and wonderful experience, we got Wonder to organise a 3 day trip to Guangzhou just last week as well (using the 144 hour visa free transit rule China has). That was also amazing.

So regardless if you’re planning a big holiday or a short trip, Chinese Discovery is amazing and takes all the stress out of organising everything. Just have your passport and wechat pay enabled and you’ll be fine.

The tour to Guilin was memorable; handled professionally by Rita coordinator and the tour guide Kennedy and driver took good care of us. Traveling during this time of the year is highly recommended; with cool weather and no crowds.

Food was delicious with good recommendations from the tour guide.

Overall, we had a very enjoyable time in Guilin.

During our last day we had the flight at midnight and asked to the last guide to bring us to have dinner before going to the airport and they found a special restaurant for us.

Very good tour, and China Discovery's communication (before, during, and after the trip) was very good.

We researched many tour providers and (despite a negative review for China Discovery that we saw, which criticised the individual guides rather than the company) went ahead with China Discovery as this tour fitted with our specific needs (starting in HK, and not including flights to/from UK). The trip was a customised 15 day tour to Guilin, Chengdu, Lhasa, Xi'an and Beijing, so if you need something different they should be able to customise. Highlights were:

- Guilin, River Cruise through the Limestone Karst mountains to Yangshuo where we saw a fantastic evening show that was directed by Mr Zhang (director of Beijing Olympics opening ceremony).

- Chengdu, Giant Panda Research Centre, evening show with face-changing.

- Lhasa (Tibet), Potala Palace and monasteries, plus the scenery. This was supposed to be a group tour, but the group was just us!

- Xi'an, Terracotta Warriors, City Walls, Bell and Drum Towers

- Beijing, Great Wall, Forbidden City, Tiananmen Square, Temple of Heaven, Olympic Park.

By the end of the tour we felt a bit overwhelmed, which was not surprising given the amount packed in!

Our experience of guides was very good, we had a different guide in each city and all were knowledgeable, friendly, and easy to understand. If anything was not clear they would repeat and clarify anything we asked them, they never pressed us to go anywhere we did not want (e.g. shops/side tours/etc.), and the only "complaint" that we had was that at times we felt they walked a bit fast (but never excessively).

As we travelled in the low season (and had to deal with 30C in HK down to -1C in Beijing... -12C with wind chill) all the sights were quite free of tourists which we had not expected from what we had heard of other's experiences touring China.

We would recommend China Discovery (although we think that this could easily depend on whether the individual guides were as good as ours).

Overall I would highly recommend China Discovery as they did a really good job of planning our tour, putting us in touch with the guides and showing us the relevant sites.

All the guides spoke English quite well and the German was surprisingly good too.

China is diverse and fascinating with history nature and food. Rita at China discovery made all arrangements so we could enjoy most of China in comfort and efficiently with excellent guides at each stay. When our train ride from Shanghai to Beijing was cancelled by the railways, Rita promptly informed us and made alternate flight arrangements keeping the tour moving smoothly. The tour started with Beijing and the forbidden city and the Great Wall are an experience. Tibet is a different world with awesome artwork everywhere. Lin river cruise is a must. The caves were an experience, better than the ones in West Virginia and Virginia. Terracotta Army is a must see. The tourists outnumbered the army and the crowds were unbelievable. The Yangtze River cruise is so relaxing and pleasant. Shanghai is best for the shopping experience and the riverfront.

I took a 10-day tour of China including Guilin, Chengdu, Xian and Beijing. The highlights were the Terracotta Warriors and the Great Wall. Guilin also surprised with amazing scenery on the Li River cruise. At each destination I had a driver and tour guide which made it possible to see many attractions in a short time. The tour guides knew the history and culture and helped us to check-in to hotels and give us recommendations for local dining and shows. The drivers were always waiting for us when we finished at a destination. I wouldn't have had the confidence to travel around China without a tour guide due to the language barrier. But, this was easy and the tour guides made everything efficient. Also, booking my tour with Tracy was easy as she amended the tour to fit my needs. Wishing to see China on a private tour arrangement to visit off the beaten track sights , I chance on China Discovery website after combing through several other sites. I arbitrary email China Discovery indicating me desire to re-visit spots around Guilin which fascinated me on my previous visits and other attractive suggested spots around the area.

Leo Li responded very quickly to my exploratory email, note my requests and soon after a few exchange of emails which I must commend as always prompt and responsive, a fulfilling itinerary was finalized.

I have now completed a comfortable and absolutely satisfying three days trip with helpful and friendly guides and drivers and comfortable transports together with pleasant hotels accommodations.

Great three day tour: Guilin, Li river cruise, Yangshuo and the rice terraces of Ping An.

The scenery was beautiful and we enjoyed the whole trip. Steven was an excellent guide and Yan was a good driver.

The four thousand year old rice terraces were stunning. The evening performance in Yangshou of Impression Liu Sanjie is absolutely amazing. Six hundred odd performers with the Li River as the stage.

Our favourite hotel was the timbered Baike Hotel in Ping An rice terraces which was stunning.

Tracey was very helpful. My parents fell sick during the trip, and she managed to rearrange everything and refund us part of the cost. Very professional and quick to react. Hopefully we can make the trip next time but can only highly recommend this agency big thanks to Tracy.

We went on a 12 day tour of Guizhou and Guilin. Our tour was organized by China Discovery with the help of Jack Li, their Travel Consultant. It was a wonderful experience. Interestingly, while on our tour, we met many small groups, whose trip was also organized by China Discovery! We visited and experienced the abode and wonderful culture of the minority groups in Guizhou and marvelled at the golden rice terraces of Longji in Guilin, not forgetting also the rivercruise to Yangshuo, Guilin. We capped off our experience with Zhang Yi-Mou's Impression Liu San Jie. It was a memorable trip for all of us.

9-day private tour of Guilin-Yangshuo and Lijiang/Shangri-La/Kunming in Oct 2023

We travel extensively and often independently, but had not visited China for over ten years. Travel agent Wing Zeng provided a high-touch service throughout, via emails, and but also via mobile phone upon arrival. This was necessary due to our concerns over telecommunciations (simplest to use our Australian-based provider/SIM for unrestricted access) and payments infrastructure (WeChat Pay was eventually successful after many hours setting up, and many credit card incompatibilities - otherwise hard currency RMB, but tour guides occasionally accept EUR/USD).

Guangxi and Yunnan provinces are indeed picturesque - equivalent to Alps/Andes/Fiordlands/Iguazu/Milford. Altitude sickness was not an issue at high-3,000s due to progressive ascent over 48h. The diverse (ethnic) cultures - Naxi, Yi, Bai - were interesting and celebrated/prioritised.

Hospitality was warm, but I believe it would be an advantage having some Mandarin proficiency in these less populated regions from a practical (communication) perspective. As is the case internationally, accommodation standards tend to vary further away from major cities or tourism centres (one should not expect six-star accommodation in an ancient village). Food standards were excellent, but we particularly cherished the street vendors (US$5-10 per evening).

Telecommunciations and transport infrastracture are unparalleled - even in and across mountain ranges (reminded us of remote Tanzania - extremely convenient and reliable). We entered via high speed rail from Hong Kong to Guilin, and the comfort (unnoticeable at 300km/h) and extent of this nation-wide network is equally extraordinary.

Our local tour guides Lewis, Sandy, Xiao Liu, Aten, and Wang Yi (Ryan) were courteous, engaging (humour), and professional .

My wife and I were in Guangzhou and wanted to visit Guilin. As this was our first time, we obtained help from China Discovery through their consultant Wing Zeng. Over 3 days, all the transfers from our hotel in Guangzhou to the bullet train station, 3.5 hr bullet train ride to Guilin, transfer to 5 star Lijiang Waterfall Hotel in Guilin, 4 hr Li River cruise, and so forth, till our transfer back to our hotel in Guangzhou, were done hassle free for us, well organised by Wing! Just came back from a 11-days trip with China Discovery. We visited 4 cities, Beijing, Xian, Zhangjiajie and Guilin. It's a well packed itinerary with interconnecting high-speed rail and flights. We have Vivien Li as our travel consultant, and she was able to quickly come up with a schedule that allows us to visit all the hotspots including some we add in ourselves like the old summer palace. My wife and I went for a trip in Oct 2023 to Guilin and Yangshuo primarily to revisit the reknown "Lui San Jie" show and the magnificent scenery via a cruise along the famous "Li Jiang". We planned a 3 week round trip together with China Discovery and then booked there.

Already during the planning our wishes were taken into account individually. I said what we would like to see and the trip was put together accordingly.

In addition, we received documents that facilitated the application for visas. I was a little skeptical at first, because we had to transfer the fees in full before the start of the trip, but everything worked out perfectly on site.

We had a guide in each city who picked us up from the airport or train station and took care of us on site. The hotels, tickets and transportation were all booked by China Discovery. We did not have to worry about anything.

At lunchtime, the guides usually picked out a local restaurant and advised us on local specialties. This was also included in the tour price. China is really worth a trip and offers besides great culture, beautiful landscapes as well as modern vibrant cities. There is something for everyone here.

When in Beijing in April 2023, my wife and I suddenly decided we wanted to visit Li River. When we contacted China Discovery, we didn't believe that they are kind enough to organize a 4-day trip in just 2 days notice. Everything was perfectly organized including our train to/from Guilin and we had unforgettable moments of our life doing this trip! We hiked along the breath-taking Longsheng Rice Terraces, cruised the magnificent Li River, took bamboo canoe and even rode bikes along the banks of Lijiang. My wife and I have been living in Guangzhou for nearly five years now, and it was our first trip outside the province. We were planning our Guilin trip when we came across China Discovery last year. Wonder was really quick to make a perfect travel plan for 2 nights-3 days Guilin trip (13 May - 15 May). He also accommodated our special requests, like booking a 4-star cruise to travel from Guilin to Yangshuo and bamboo rafting on the Li River. We were also anxious about the Guilin weather in mid-May, and therefore, Wonder made the travel dates flexible. However, we made the trip on our fixed dates, and the weather was beautiful.

On arriving at Guilin, we were met by the smiling driver. The arrangements, from the car to the hotel selection, were good. I am restricting myself from talking about Guilin here, but indeed, the place is worthy of its title, "The most beautiful place in China." This review is incomplete without mentioning Steven, our friendly tour guide, whom we met on the second day morning. We came to know so many things about Guilin, the iconic landscape of it, and about China in general. Our whole trip was more enjoyable in his presence.

Overall, our first trip outside the Guangdong province was great, and thanks to China Discovery for that. I would highly recommend anyone taking their help to explore China. Just one recommendation for future travelers with China Discovery - please ask them about the meal plan of your itinerary. In our case, only the complimentary breakfasts at hotels and lunch on the cruise were included. That was not a problem for us, as we got the opportunity to explore local foods. But if you wish otherwise, please make sure to do the planning beforehand.

It came shortly after the business trip that I and my wife decided to go on a private tour around Quilin area for 3 days. Even with such short notice, the services brought by China Discovery was extra ordinary. This time, five friends and I planned a trip to Inner Mongolia, but it has to be cancelled due to Covid. I am happy to write review about the 4 days Guilin-Longsheng-Yangshuo trip with China Discovery on this Sept. It was a great and wonderful experience along with my wife and four months older little kid. First of all they made a very nice adjustable trip plan assisted with a very good English speaking friendly tour guide Steven. Steven and the car driver are very cool persons and very supportive. It’s been quite confusing to travel in different province from my place in Shenzhen due to covid regulations. They assisted with updated info about covid regulation and traveling requirements, made the arrangement of the trip accordingly. We want to give them huge thanks for that. Every detail was planned to the exact things we wanted and provided very good hotel accommodations where we have stayed. Every aspect of our trip was superb and we are very much looking forward for planning our next trip with China Discovery. Great tour and Club Med experience in Guilin! We did a ten day private custom made tour for our family of four with China Discovery in Guangxi Province. First part was a 4-day tour in Guilin/Yangshuo/Longsheng followed by a 6-day stay at the all-inclusive Club Med Guilin.

We actually had planned to do a quick 2-day tour in Chengde with China Discovery but it had to be cancelled due to the pandemic (they monitored situation for us and refunded the trip immediately when it was no longer possible).

Customizing the tour was a great experience and provided the level of comfort I wanted for the trip. The hotel accommodation and types of room were hand picked by myself and each one of them was amazing (I wished we could have stayed longer at Banyan Tree Yangshuo, but it was my fault for planning the tour that way!)

We had a memorable trip. We were greeted by the friendly guide at the airport when we landed. The guide and the driver were both very professional and knowledgeable which made our trip more enjoyable. We especially appreciated their kindness towards our 2 young children, which made the difference. Another perk of the private tour was having a photographer on hand instead of doing selfies.

Club Med Guilin (2nd Club Med experience after Sanya) was also amazing, with the resort having interesting art and beautiful natural landscapes. They are just great with children, which allows adults to relax. It was low season, but still recommended. I can see the experience being even better when the weather gets warmer and we can use the outdoor pool and other facilities.

I will strongly recommend China Discovery to my friends and colleagues.

We chose China Discovery over 2 other companies that were competing for our business. I believe that we received excellent value for our money. The other deciding factor was the number and variety of attractions over the 6 actual days of the tour.

This brings us to the attractions. The tour featured a variety of majestic and beautiful mountain ranges, as well as historical and cultural landmarks in the region. The majesty, the awesome beauty of this area are its great strengths. We really got a feeling of the area, and learned a great deal of the history and cultural significance of this region of the country. CD's guides did a great job in emphasizing the beauty of the region.

We had 2 guides on our journey, Both guides showed in-depth knowledge and a keen cultural awareness of their individual areas of the tour. Both showed concern for our safety, comfort and the ease of our journey. Both were concerned with us getting enough rest, in general, and during the walking activities.

The vans provided by China Discovery were first class: comfortable, clean and easy to get in and get out of. The drivers were courteous and friendly. We did a 9 day personalised tour- including 4 days Yantze River cruise, followed by trips in Guilin. This was the week that another lockdown hit many parts of China due to Covid -19 , but we managed to stay ahead of risky areas- purely due to Jack's careful attention to the situation, his planning and ability to think on the spot and ensure we were safe at all times. Jack from China Discovery was amazing- all instructions were well thought out and he dealt with the many problems due to Covid and places closing on the day, with efficiency and always had great practical solutions. He always listened and made sure he arranged what WE wanted. The tour guide in Guilin was called 'Steven.' Not only did he have perfect English, but he was so helpful and kind in all areas. His knowledge of the area was excellent and we had some very interesting discussions along the way. He also took us for covid tests as was needed and nothing was too much trouble for him. He always listened to what we wanted and made sure when we went to eat , my food allergies were fully accounted for. We recommend that you ask for Steven if you are visiting Guilin at any time- you wilI not be disapointed !! The Bravo Hotel in Guilin was amazing, extremely clean with a fantastic outdoor swimming pool. Overall a fantastic trip and we will definetly be using China Discovery for all our China trips from now on.

I recently completed a 22 day rail tour with China Discovery. I let them know what I wanted to see and they planned the entire trip, rearranging my itinerary many times based on my feedback. I appreciated their patience as I made many changes over a period of months and never felt any pressure in any way. They generally got back to me within 24 hours with an adjusted itinerary for me to consider. My trip was well-organized and adjusted on the fly when needed (particularly when a typhoon blew in and things had to be changed at the last minute). The guides were good and the trip was stress-free, largely because of the work that Tracy did in organizing it. She checked on me regularly during the trip and even met me in Chengdu to present some nice gifts.

Working in China, it was challenging to go back to the UK for a holiday because of Covid 19, so I booked a trip through China Discovery (based in Chengdu). This trip took me to Xi'an, Gailin, and the highlight was a cruise down the Three Gorges to the Three Gorges Dam. My point of contact was Rita Jiang, and I was very impressed. At every new place, I was met by a guide who was knowledgeable and helpful. At no point did I feel stressed, especially with all the procedures of different health checks and so on. I found Rita very helpful and flexible to my wishes. She replied very quickly to my messages and was at all times professional. I highly recommend China Discovery and Rita. I will most certainly use her again for my next major trip.

We went on 2 day trip to Guilin for myself and two kids ages 16 and 12. Riley arranged a jam packed agenda for us to maximize our time. We went on a river cruise down the li river, explored sliver caves, cable car up to Ruyi mountain to walk on thed glass bridges, 4 hour bike tour of the country side, hike to see moon hill, visited the west night market, went bamboo rafting and followed up with a swim in the pool and eating famous Guilin rice noodles. The hotel she booked for us during our stay has the best view and food was so delicious offering both western and Chinese dishes. The portions were huge.

Based on my research, China Discovery had the best value for a private trip for 2 to Guilin. They arranged hotels, transportation, and activities for us, and we were happy that they made our trip stress free. Our guide, Shirley, was friendly and helpful.

We enjoyed very much working with Riley who not only provided us with a very good itinerary/tour arrangement responding to our request, and tour arrangement but also showed flexibility to accommodate our needs and request during the actual travel. We look forward to working with her again./p>

Honestly, i found this tour operator by luck from my random googling on september 2020.

Until now, I've done several private tour with china discovery. The first one, on october 2020, i went to hangzhou - zhangziajie - sanya. On november 2020, i went to guangzhou. The last one, on christmas holiday on december 2020, I went to guilin - yangshuo.

The strenght point of this tour operator is their eagerness to fulfill almost all the customer want even a silly one. So you will get your dreaming holiday which will be suitable with your time and budget.

Me and my Wife (both of us living in Shanghai) wanted to get away from the city during Christmas, but due to Covid-19, options was limited. After talking to Johnsson on China discovery, we had booked a fantastic 10 days trip through the yellow mountains and Guilin.

Johnsson was fantastic with helping us, both when we changed our minds on elements of the trip, and when we forgot our passport at home before leaving for the trip. Everything was well planned and we felt safe and taken care of the whole trip.

Especially our “local mountain guide” April was fantastic, even introducing us to friends and tea tasting on Christmas Eve!

We did a one week tour to Guilin/Yangshou and Zhangjiajie from Nov 2nd to Nov. 8th 2020. The organization by Vivien was perfect, see tailored the tour according to our wishes. Everything went smooth without any trouble. We booked the flights with Vivien as well, but skipped the lunch options which gave us more flexibility. If you like breathtaking landscapes, this tour is highly recommended.

We visited Guilin and did a 85km cruise along Lin river to get to Yangshuo.

Both cities are nice, tourist oriented and not so crowded, at least when we went there (low season-recommended for climate conditions and lack of noisy turists).

We then flight to Xishuangbanna were multiple Asian cultures and ethnic groups mix together! There is also one of the largest night market of all Asia.

Last place was Kunming were we visited the Unesco site Stone Forest and admire the outstanding view of the Dianchi lake atop of western hills forest peaks.

All places we visited were interesting. May be ask the tour operator to choose more remote ethnic villages in Xishuangbanna in order to have a more authentic idea of them.

Better to choose 5 stars hotel for a reasonable increase of the total cost, since the standard in Chinese upcountry hotels are quite lower than the ones in big Chines cities or western countries!

During our trip, besides the qualified presence of our private guides and drivers we enjoyed the professional assistance of Cina Discovery tour operator Ms. Vivien. She organized our trip very well in all aspects and was always in contact with us, before, during and after the tour. Well done Vivien!

Our trip around Guilin and Yangshuo was utterly amazing. We were expertly driven to the best scenic spots to take wonderful photographs of the breath-taking scenery. Our local guide Kenny was very knowledgeable and funny. He was very easy to get along with (and has a great singing voice!). I only have high praise for his guidance and assistance. Both Kenny and our driver were extremely patient and I felt safe at every part of the journey. The hotels were adequate and authentic, and most importantly in prime locations to facilitate the tour. China Discovery (Wendy) hat mir ein 11-Tägiges Programm (Guanxi / Guilin & Yangtze-Cruise & Zhangjiaje) zusammengestellt.

Alles hat reibungslos geklapp, ich wurde von den kompetenten, sehr engagierten Guides zu den wichtigen und den schönen Sehenswürdigkeiten gebracht. Dabei wurde auf meine Wünsche (keine Städt, kein Shopping, viel Bewegung) eingegangen.

Probleme vor Ort (ein Hotel war nicht i.O.) wurden schnell und kulant gelöst. Kontakt mit Wendy und den Guides war unkompliziert (WeChat und Mail wurden sehr kurzfristig beantwortet).

Das ganze war für mich - als durchaus China-Erfahren - teilweise schon zu fürsorglich, die lokalen Guides haben mir wesentlich mehr Unterstützung angeboten, als ich haben wollte (Restaurant, Einkaufen, Tickets, Transfer, ...).

Mitten im Trubel des chinesischen Nationalfeiertags wusste mein Guide aber auch ein paar ruhige Spots in Zhangjiajie, die ich alleine nicht gefunden hätte.

Had a fantastic tour of Guilin, Yangshuo and Zhangjiajie. Beautiful country, amazing tour guides who accommodated a lot of changing requests and a seamless experience that was just amazing.

We spent 5 nice days around Guilin county. The private tour was well organized, well balanced between guided activities and free time to explore by ourselves. The English speaking guide was lovely and very professional.

The village in the Long Ji terrace is a very peaceful and relaxing place, the hotel is delicious and comfortable with nice and welcoming people. The day we spent there was a break out of the noise and stress of the city life. The view is amazing!

The Li jiang river cruise to Yangshuo is speechless, wonderful scenic area, breaktaking view. It's something you can't lose if you visit Guilin.

Yangshuo it's a nice small town with holidays atmosphere. The night show on the river is amazing and really suggestive.

Andy our guide in Xian was excellent as were the guides in Guilin and Huangshan.

Vehicles provided in general were good.Restaurants in Beijing were bad however the quality improved after we protested.

Hotels were neat and clean(chose all 5star) except in Xian and after we complained ,we were upgraded.

This was a magnificent holiday from start to finish organised superbly by Wonder Wang.Nothing was ever too much for him and he helped us whenever asked.We travel extensively but these guys are a bit special.

We started in Guilin with a trip on The River Li.Then on to the pandas in Chengdu--a definite highlight.Xian followed with the Terracotta Warriors which on first sighting take your breath away.We finished in Beijing with The Forbidden City,Temple of Heaven ,The Summer Palace and The Great Wall.

Travel between the Centres was by Hi speed train-extraordinary--topping 310KPH on occasions.

Overall a superb holiday and one of the best we have ever been on with Wonder magnificent throughout.

When we arrived by train in Guilin we were met by our tour guide Daniel who was also great. He took such good care of us. The highlights of the trip were Yao mountain, Reed Flute cave, Elephant trunk hill, Li River Cruise, Hiking along the Yulong river, bamboo rafting on the Yulong, eveing performance of Impression Liu Sanjie. We stayed 3 nights in Guilin and 2 nights in Yangshuo.

We have just returned from a private tour of China, all arranged for us by China Discovery. The original reason we chose them from many other companies in China was because they said they could get us into the Day Volunteer Programme at Woolong Panda Reserve. So we arranged our whole 11 day tour with them. We cannot recommend them enough. Every place we went we had our own guide and driver, coordination of flights, tours and pick-ups was excellent. The guides, nearly all young women, were brilliant and flexible. In Yangshuo we had planned motorbikes (scooters) for the morning but when we woke up it was pouring with rain. Our guide immediately gave us other choices including massages or cookery. We chose the cookery class and within 10 minutes we found ourselves joining a group in the market to shop for our lesson. Great fun, thoroughly enjoyable. Riley Guo did a brilliant job organising our trip. After reviewing the original itinerary, we made some adjustments for logistical efficiency. Riley was always quick to respond to my queries and even shared her WeChat number for even faster response. This was invaluable when we had a minor problem due to my mixing up a day trip time. Riley was quick to change train tickets and saved the day.

As with many other prudent travellers dealing with an unfamiliar Chinese tour operator, I was concerned about making the deposit and subsequent balance. However, I made each payment via Paypal without a hitch.

The greatest benefit of a private tour is the peace of mind at every stop. Driver and guide were at hand and took care of all tickets (no queuing) and lugging of suitcases. All breakfasts and lunches were included - all good to excellent depending on the hotel/venue.

We were able to save time and energy, thereby enjoying the sights and culture to the fullest.

Not only would I recommend China Discovery, I will be using them for our next trip to China.

10 days tour with the group of 6 friends was totally amazing, it was perfect combination of physical activity, information to process and just moments to enjoy. Out of all included and optional activities I want to highlight just two special moments in Xi’an and show on the Li River in Yangshuo.

With basically all-time rain our visit to Xi’an was bright, interesting and full of surprises thanks to our wonderful guide Timo. It started late in the evening when we arrived in the city and was taken to Grand Tang Dynasty Ever-Bright City filled with lights, decoration, different activities, lots of people, some in traditional cloths and etc. And the next day, after seeing the Terracotta warriors, City wall and other place of interests there was another surprise for us. One person in our group had a birthday and what he got as a gift from our tour company was creative, unique and above our best dreams (don’t want to go into details in case somebody else wants to celebrate birthday in Xi’an). The only thing I regret about is we did not tip our wonderful guide enough. Tip recommendation was at the very end of our confirmation letter and none of us bothered to read it to the end until the mid of the tour. We used our best judgment, and as it turned out it was not that good, he deserved much better. And show in Yanhshuo – I have no words to describe it, have never seen anything like that before, definitely worth seeing it even under the rain (theater does not have a roof).

So many great pictures, so many great moments to remember!

I booked a 3 star Li River cruise for seven people with chinadiscovery during China national hollyday, and it was the best part of the trip! Yangshuo and the Li river are really beautiful, the boat is very comfortable with huge seats, large windows and a rooftop to appreciate the view. Tea is served inside even dough we didn't payed to eat the meal.

I really appreciated the service with china discovery. During our 5 days trip, we encoutered many problems due to the huge number of tourists this period... but with china discovery, I found affordable prices to a luxury cruise I never thought I could afford (I am a student, and it was half the price I saw on every other websites!). As I decided to book the tickets the day before I started to travel with my friends, I wanted to book them really fast, so I called the number on the website and I imediately got someone talking english (which is really appreciable in china). I explained that I was in a hurry, so they arranged my booking in the next hour! Just be aware that there is a reservation fee, but if you are a large group, it is not a problem.

Then I arrived at Guilin (where the cruise started), and I got the contact of a local employee of chinadiscovery. It was a little weird, because she had to give me the tickets in hand the day before the cruise. I don't know why there is no digital version of it? Anyway, it was a problem because I was not available that day (tourist duties) except in the evening, and I got stuck in terrible traffic jam on my way back to the hotel so I thought I would never get my tickets... But the lady was really comprehensive and nice and when I finally arrived around 11:30 pm, I sent her a message and she came from her home to bring me the tickets, really friendly and not pissed off at all! (Thanks again to her!)

So, really kind staff, really good prices, incredible activity, I would for sure come back to them next time!

I have now worked with Vivien Li of China Discovery twice to help plan private tours throughout China.

For the first, she helped coordinate a 7-day trip from Shanghai -> Zhangjiajie -> Guilin -> Yangshuo in February of this year. Despite the cold weather, the trip went off without a hitch, and Vivien was always very responsive. We found the tour guides to be friendly and great English-speakers -- a welcome reprieve from spending most of our days not being able to speak to anyone else in English!

For the second (shorter) trip, we planned a couple of day trip to Yangshuo from Hong Kong, to revisit our favorite hotel from the first trip (Alila Yangshuo). This was a more bare-bones trip consisting mostly of helping us sort out flight/train options and taxi transfers to and from the train station and airport, but Vivien was just as willing to help our group of 4.

Would highly recommend their services to take the stress out of trying to plan your own China trip.

I took a 2 week personalized vacation with Chendu Bamboo tours through China. I wanted to put some thoughts down to the TripAdvisor community as I had a lot of reservations going into it, and I hope my review will help clarify some of the items that I was uncertain of.

First, while I researching, I determined that I wanted to do a custom tour as none of the packages that I saw had everything I wanted. The towns I chose were Beijing, Xian, Dunjuang, Chendu, Guilin and Shanghai. I submitted inquiries to multiple companies and ChinaDiscovery came back to me promptly with a very comprehensive tour that was detailed and in line with my expectations. The scary part of communicating my requirements was that it had to be done mostly through email, although the Leo of Chengdu Bamboo was also quick to Skype call me to handle some of my more advanced questions.

If you decide to book a tour like this (and you are firmly in the middle class) this is and expensive endeavor. For you to pull the trigger, you can expect a number of big expenditures. First, you will need to put an initial balance down on the trip to reserve the reservation. That amount was placed through PayPay, and the Paypal account that I placed it to did not look anything like the business I was dealing with. It was a bit unnerving sending the money to such a strange account, but in the end, the transaction was fine and 100% legitimate. One point of confusion...you may research and book through ChinaDiscovery, however the invoice then turned into Chengdu Bamboo International Tours Co, Ltd. From a payment standpoint, this was fine. I found myself having fears about placing so much money to the this travel company which I only researched on the internet...but in the end, all my fears were unfounded and the execution of my trip was as perfect as it gets.

Expect to pay a few big expenses. In addition to the trip costs, you will also have some other big expenses. You will need to coordinate the buying of your international plane tickets, which I handled shortly after the deposit. If you are a US citizen, you will need to get a visa. In my case, the Chinese Visas costs about $160 per person for a 10 year visa, and to get it, you must carefully submit a form to the Chinese consulate in a designated region of the country. Because I delayed doing this, I needed to do expedited service. And because the form is brutal and requires you to send your passports to the Chinese consulate, I enlisted a visa expert (CIBT.com) in order to get in processed. Long story short, about $1K later, I received the last of the passports back from the consulate with about 2 days to spare. So plan ahead.

The final expense is that you will be advised (not mandated) to give them tips to the drivers and tour guides. You will find yourself wanting to give them tips for the great service they provide, but you should calculate 2 weeks and 2 persons a day, and understand that it will cost you hundreds of dollars or thousands of Yuan as part of your trip costs.

Last warning to give about going to China...you'll need cash. Only some (not most) banks and stores are hooked up to the Visa and Mastercard system. This means, (1) you may need to search for the right bank to get cash in China in order to withdraw funds and (2) the vendors that you'll see only will take your cash. This caused some stress the first couple of days as I had trouble finding a bank that worked.

Now...for the good stuff. Once prepping for all that, the trip that was designed by Chinadiscovery (or Chengdu Bamboo Tour Company) was pretty spectacular. The guides were beyond great, and did a truly amazing, amazing job of being everything you would want as a tour guide. Prompt, flexible, funny, sometimes motherly, sometimes brotherly, open, honest, kind, insightful, human, knowledgeable and ...simply great. Each one in each town was different...but each of them took such pride in their cities/country that you are given a great gift. The coordination of the planes, trains and automobiles was flawless and as we traversed our way around each city, we never missed a single connection, nor did our guides ever fail to meet us at our designated meeting points.

The hotels were as good as it gets as well. Breakfast was included in all hotels...some food good, and other food great. The hotels were within walking distance to all the good things. For Beijing, 15 min walk to the Forbidden City. Shanghai? 5 minute walk to the River and 20 minutes to The Bund. I could go on, but the accommodations were really good. Combine that with flawless execution of all travel arrangements, it made for a stress free trip. The lunches were all Chinese and again, and food ranged from good to great. They always gave our family of 3 too much food for one sitting, and I felt embarrassed about leaving so much food behind.

In Beijing, our guide took us through Tienanmen Square, Forbidden City, Summer Palace, The Great Wall, and Temple of Heaven (among other places). When she took us to the train station for our trip to Xian, she insisted in walking us down to our seat on the High Speed railway car. When I asked if that is the company policy, she said 'that MY policy' (to ensure her clients get to where they are going). Amazing. We reached Xian for a day and Zoe gave us great insights of the growing city, the crowds, and life in China. Then onto Dunjuang, where Lily and her driver rearranged the schedule to ensure that we saw all the Silk Road sites. The schedule changes included her and the driver starting at 6AM (after we were picked up at the airport 10PM the night before) in order to ensure we saw everything. Then in Chengdu, Cherry helped so patiently with my wife's shopping at the Panda sanctuary. And in Guilin, Kennedy was awesome describing the land and China's ethnic minority. The insight for the rice fields and rivers were wonderful. We ate probably the best Chinese food of the trip in the fresh country air. Then finally, to Shanghai, where Zack was truly a joy, and one of the friendliest and enjoyable people I have ever met in my life. The city of Shanghai was amazing, and my son enjoyed it tremendously.

Two things I would do over if I could. First, I would plan to take it in June, not late July. We had to compete with the rest of China, which has summer break at this time. As a result, the places were packed with China tourist going to the same sites, which made the crowds a bit much. Second, I would have also altered the trip to spend 1 less day in Guilin and 1 more day in Shanghai. Other than that, I would not have changed anything.

Bottom line...if you are planning a trip to China, I highly recommend planning it with Chengdu Bamboo and if you are lucky enough to work with Leo, you will not be dissapointed.

China Discovery, Chengdu - Travel Consultant Ms Rita Jiang organized this trip for me and my wife. We did not want to travel in a group as we wanted flexibility and comfort. Rita understood our needs and after much discussion, we started our trip on 17th May and ended in HK on 6th June where we spent 4 nights on our own. We stayed in 4 to 5 star international hotels except for two local hotels in the smaller cities. The difference is the level of hotel service in both types of hotels and the breakfast. We were in Sofitel, Intercontinental, Shangri La, Sheraton, Crowne Plaza, Hyatt and even though our hotel nights were booked through China Discovery, I presented my loyalty hotel cards and had upgrades in some of these international hotels.

We were happy with the transportation provided (especially in the big cities) but do not expect good vehicles in the smaller cities. Some of the guides were brilliant but some were not so. This is expected due to tourism in each of the cities. We had flexibility in our tour and also food selection. We were provided with daily breakfast and some lunches but no dinners. This is fine as we could look for the food that we like (apart from just Chinese style food).

The internal flights were spot on and we had our seating always in the first few rows . Some of the train rides were very good (especially Beijing to Xian and Guilin to Hong Kong). The other train rides were not so comfortable. Would suggest requesting for First Class cabin but will cost more - nearly double.

Our guide checked us in for both flights and train rides. It was very easy and smooth. My recommendation is to ensure that you give notice to your receiving guide to hold up a card with your name and to make your luggage different from the rest. Send them a photo so they will know who to look for. We are Australians but we are Chinese looking. So misunderstanding can happen when the guide is receiving us.

Overall, we rate China Discovery, Chengdu - Rita Jiang very highly as she was very responsive to our needs even when we were on tour. She even did some last minute changes for us just to make us comfortable. If we do travel again to China in future, we will contact them again.

My wife and I recently completed a 22 days’ vacation/excursion in the People’s Republic of China. We arranged this voyage with China Discovery Tour Agency.(May17th-June7th, 2019)

Our journey throughout China included three air flights and four high speed trains.

We visited Beijing, the capital of The People’s Republic of China. Highlights in Beijing, Tiananmen Square, Forbidden City, the Great Wall (Mutiny Section), the Sacred Way, wonderful Kungfu Show, and a wonderful dinner of Peiking Roasted Duck at the Iconic Quanjude restaurant. We then traveled 4.5 hours by Fast train to Xian to visit the Terracotta Warriors and Horses excavation site then on to the Ancient City Wall and then in the evening attended a wonderful Tang Palace Dance Show. We then traveled 3 hours by plane to Lhasa, the capital of TIBET. Then from TIBET back to China to the city of Chengdu (2 hours by plane) to visit the Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding and also enjoy the relax atmosphere of the city’s Renmin Park. Then from Chengdu we traveled 1.5 hours by plane to Guilin, the most scenic city in China. We then drove about 2.5 hours to visit one of the most beautiful rice terraces in China…Longji Rice Terrace. What an experience hiking up on the edge of the mountain, including traveling up more than 900 steps in order to arrive at our hotel. Then the next morning more hiking up hill and steps to observe the spectacular view and to get a better understanding of the engineering developed many, many years ago to be able to cultivate rice at that high altitude. Later we visited Huangluo Yao Village and enjoyed a beautiful show by the Village Long Hair People. The following day we traveled back to Guilin and took a very relaxing sightseeing cruise 84 kilometers down the Li River to Yangzhou Town.

That evening we attended an amazing show directed by the world-famous director Mr. Zhang Yimou then the next day we drove back to Guilin and took a fast train (5 hours) to the the city of Chongqing (The largest city in Southwest China) to catch our cruise ship to take a 3 nights 4 days cruise down the Yangtze River, and during the cruise we had 3 shore excursions to visit different historic sites. After our cruise we then went on an all-day tour of the Three Gorge Dam. It is the largest dam in the entire world. After that we traveled by bus to to Yichang and took a fast train the the new city of Shanghai. Shanghai is less than 20 years. In Shanghai we visited the 400 year old Yun Garden, the Shanghai World Financial Center, the Nanjing Road, the famous BUND, Zhujiajiao Water Town, Tianzifang, Suzhou No.1 Silk Factory, and finally we attended an incredible Acrobat Show. Then on June 6thth we traveled back to Beijing by fast train (4.5 hours) and on June 7thth we departed China.

We have traveled to many different places all over the world during the past 21 years and I must say this excursion in China arranged for us by the very efficient, professional, and knowledgeable agent Wendy Dan of China Discovery was truly unbelievable. Simply put, Wendy Dan and all of the drivers and especially our English-speaking guides provided us with services way above our expectations. We indeed experienced a voyage of a lifetime.

During the past 21 years, we have traveled to the Middle East, North Africa, West Africa, Central Africa, East Africa, all over the USA and Canada, many places in Central America and South America, Western Europe, Northern Europe, Egypt and throughout the entire Caribbean and we have been fortunate to have a very good experience in each of those many places. China Discovery organized a 22 days’ tour along with its the very proficient, caring, and knowledgeable service providers (especially our private English-speaking tour guides) which has resulted in my wife and I having to tell the World that this trip compares with the best vacation we experienced in all of our travels during the past 21 years. We are very, very impressed with the overall beauty, safety, cleanliness, orderliness, and history we experienced at all of the places we visited. After 6 days exploring Hong Kong by ourselves we started our guided tour of China on 30th May. We are very well travelled and have always booked independently so this was a first for us to put ourselves in the hands of an online travel agency in China! Wonder Wang from China Discovery (Chengdu) had corresponded with us over a number of months and together we had formulated a tour taking in Guilin, Yangshuo, Xian, Shanghai and finally Beijing. The 4 guides, Smiley, Walender, Frank and Kevin all had very different personalities and that was an extremely interesting aspect of the holiday. They were all friendly, professional, knowledgeable and always on time. The tour was just myself and my husband accompanied by different guides and drivers.

The 2 internal flights and 2 high speed trains worked well and we were taken to the airports/stations and always met with smiling faces. The lunches were varied and we had some great meals although we had to overcome some food challenges when dining by ourselves in the evenings. Additional shows were suggested by the guides and special mention must be made of the show at Yangshuo on the River Li - amazing! The hotels and breakfasts were of a good standard although bathroom facilities in a couple of instances could have been more modern but always spotlessly clean.

The programme was varied and we tweaked it when planning with Wonder’s help. The Great Wall was amazing and we particularly loved Shanghai. We were flexible in order to maximise the time spent in places especially in Beijing.

We were a little skeptical at first booking online with a Chinese travel agency but have no worries China Discovery and Wonder Wang were efficient, professional at all times and we had a great time. China was so much more than we expected and we would not hesitate to recommend China Discovery to others and maybe one day we will return to see the rest of the country. A great holiday!

Ms.Lyn wang was very cooperative & professional right from the time of enquiry, booking & arranging the customized China tour for 12 days covering Beijing, Yangtze river cruise, Zhangjiajie & Shanghai. We really appreciate her for organizing the tour in a very professional manner. We were bit apprehensive initially as we booked directly without any tour operator from my country of origin. It was very wonderful & pleasant experience and we really enjoyed every moment of it.

All all tour guides were very professional & cooperative giving all the required info of the tour. Yangtze river cruise by “president No-7” was very good & enjoyed the way they organised.

Zhangjiajie is a must visit place with such a scenic beauty & we feel three days there would have been more justified to enjoy thoroughly such a natural scenic beauty spot. But the only disappointment was the hotel “Wulingyuan Hotel” arranged was close to the hills but the food was really bad & couldn’t eat at all. The least we expected that the breakfast could be to suit overseas travellers, but was really not up to any standard. Suggest you to recommend any other hotels for overseas guests.

In Shanghai, there was much free time left after covering all the listed places as per itinerary & suggest tour guide could provide some local shopping tips in China as in Nanjing road it was all expensive which are otherwise generally available in any other country. Don't miss Bund walk in the evening, the skyline under lights is most delightful to watch /gaze.

Overall it was very nicely organised & we really appreciate your professionalism for well organised tour. I certainly recommend "China discovery" tour operator & happy to avail for any future tours in china.

I know a lot of people usually want to go to China to visit big cities, skyscrapers and nightlights but my main objective was so see the natural beauties of the country. I booked an entire package with China discovery including internal trains/ flights, shuttles, hotels and tours. If you are looking for traveling and not worrying much about planning your travel this is a great agency. I sent them a list of cities and they built a schedule for me. Everything went according to the plan, all pick ups on time and most of the guides on the tours with very good English.

Some of the tours were private and others with groups. The further we went into the country the less people spoke English so I definitely recommend having some kind of translator app for the times when your guide is not with you. Best places for me were Zhangjiajie, Huangshan mountain (spending the night there is amazing) and Guilin (it has it all, nightlife, shopping and a river cruise with amazing views of the mountains). Lyn was my agent with whom I discussed all the arrangements before the trip - I booked it all via email and used pay pal for payment and it was very easy.

I booked online for "6 Days Guilin In-depth Tour from Hong Kong" for my husband and me. We had our own local tour guide and driver with us for the entire 6 days. Our local guides (Alice and Smiley) both were attentive, helpful and very nice. Scenery at every tour spot was really great and pictures do not do them justice at all. Must visit in person to see the beauty of nature. Only issue with this tour was booking the round-trip high speed train tickets from HK to Guilin. Apparently, somehow there is no tickets available in advance until they are "released". I am the type of person that book cruises a year in advance, plane tickets at least 1/2 year ahead, etc. Not knowing if we had train tickets or not until a few days before flying out from US to HK was maddening. Then not knowing if we have the return train tickets from Guilin to HK (while in Guilin, tour guide made multiple phone calls to her contact in HK office)- no responses until we called Wendy Dan located in Chengdu (my direct contact from online booking) - then the local guide received the call the afternoon before we were to leave Guilin. OMG - personally, I cannot do that ever again. I would rather fly in and out instead of having to deal with the uncertainty of the high speed train ticket system. However, once you get on the high speed train - it was great and 1st class seats are the way to go.

Please note that the train ticket problem was not the travel agent's fault for the way the ticket system works in China, just be aware that there could be some unusual ticketing method. I would definitely book again with China Discovery again if we need personal tours again.

>My friend and I booked a 4 days, 3 nights tour to Guilin, Yangshuo and Longsheng via China-discovery. Vivien was our trip organizer. She paid attention to every detail in the itinerary - our arrival/departure times in Guilin, vegetarian meal preferences, English speaking guide, changing our hotel booking at the last minute due to change in our train booking etc. The driver and the tour guide (Steven) were patient and accommodating. Steven even shared stories about the local Chinese culture during our commute which was quite interesting too. The hotels booked had good location and served western breakfast.

Overall the tour was overall good. There were some places that we wanted to see but were not included in the original itinerary proposed by China Discovery. On our request, amendments were made to the itinerary.

Places we covered :

Day 1 - Guilin - Elephant reed caves, 4 lakes and 3 river cruise (Note: this cruise was not included in the package but was a good experience.)

Day 2 - Yangshuo - Li river cruise (the highlight of the entire visit to Guilin), bike riding along the 10 mile trail (Note: bike renting was not included in the package), West Street market.

Day 3 - Longsheng - Longji rice terrace

Day 4 - Return from Guilin

I would recommend booking a tour through China Discovery in future.

My only recommendation would be to ask for a 4-star hotel while booking to enjoy more comfortable stay.

The treatment we received from all of our tour guides and drivers was excellent. We were always greeted on time at the airport or train station by our tour guide who promptly introduced themselves and also the driver. Very nice people always wanting to help and explain all the details about the place visited, their culture and traditions.

Hotels were beautiful, very comfortable and centrally located. Staff always ready to help if needed. We were very surprised with the beautiful gift waiting for us when we got to our hotel in Chengdu. I wished we had more time to go visit you in your office and personally thank you.

The very well planned itinerary was carried out to our expectations, never a missed placed to visit, and when it was time for our next destination, our tour guide had everything under control, from taking our bags to getting our tickets and making sure we were in the right place on time.

The Yangtze River cruise was very relaxing, excellent buffet and staff service. Our activity coordinator Rebecca, was great in keeping the activities going and letting us know which sceneries where coming up and what to look for every time. Nightly entertainment was very good also. The tours very very well organized and we really enjoyed them.

We loved every city visited and experienced different Chinese cuisine every placed we went. The restaurants and food was carefully selected always keeping in mind if we were allergic to any food or liked or disliked any hot spices.

We are very happy and it has been an amazing vacation and a learning experience. Will be happy to recommend your company and specially you Jack for all your help, patience and knowledge. We'll be happy to return to China to experience many other beautiful places we didn't get to see this time around.

Once in China, she continued to monitor our travel all throughout even after the days her portion of the service concluded and stayed and supported us even late at night when we had language barriers.

Overall, her manager also stood by her when I asked for support or slight accommodations to their normal way of doing business.

Overall, if you want to choose a company for travel arrangements and support while in China, Riley Guo and this company should be a no-brainer!

One other suggestion to China Discovery... Please create other entries in TripAdvisor where people can write your praises like... 'Customized China tours' or 'private travel arrangements within China.' You need to be seen in more places on more good reviews.

We had a wonderful time in Guilin - all thanks to Riley Guo who organised this tour. I have to say it was a memorable tour as it was well organised and she had chosen the best local guide and a driver for us. There was excellent email communication with Riley. She was very patient as we had to alter our travel plans a few times. she gave us the best quote for the trip (compared with the quote from another leading tour company for the same itinerary). she was in touch via email throughout. she was very polite and very professional throughout.

Our Local guide Steve and driver Mr Young were excellent.Steve was very knowledgeable, polite and spoke very good English (It was a priority). our request for vegetarian food was well catered (had excellent local vegetarian food). Steve was very professional and helpful. He was making sure that we were comfortable throughout our trip. Our flight had got cancelled/rearranged/delayed- we came to know only when Steve checked it the previous evening to plan what time to drop us off to the airport. He immediately contacted his management team and the operator and got correct flight info. He altered the timings for the next day so that we didn't have to spend too much time at the airport.

Reasons for giving 5 stars: this tour was arranged by us via the internet. I was sceptical about the service we may get. we had an excellent local guide, Driver, very good vehicle, well-organised tour.

Before doing Guilin tour (only our family) we did 10 day china tour ( with friends - a group of 10- the tour was organised by a travel agent with a different tour operator). The tour wasn't well organised, vehicles stank of cigarette. we struggled to get vegetarian food. Not all the local guides were good. we still had a good time as we were with friends and enjoyed every bit of China that we visited.

Overall: We had a wonderful time in China. amazing country with wonderful scenery and history. People are very hospitable. I would definitely recommend China Discovery/Riley and Steve.

When researching tours of China we found that China Discovery was the perfect company to book with as we were able to customise our own trip.

We traveled to multiple destinations within China where we had our own personal guides which made the language barrier a breeze as we were able to thoroughly enjoy ourselves with no stress. The guides had excellent English and local knowledge and showed us many things that we would have otherwise missed.

I would not hesitate to recommend China Discovery and our tour coordinator Wing Zeng. She was excellent at planing the whole tour for us, including the internal travel arrangements. I was also very impressed with how she kept in contact with us throughout the entire trip.

When traveling domestically in China, we soon noticed that there were no signs in English at the airports so we were very grateful to have our tour guides assist us with the flight check-ins.

Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed our time in China and would definitely recommend this company to others.

We wanted to visit some sights in different cities in China. Riley from China Discovery was very patient and competent and helped us plan our trip. She answered all our questions quickly and also helped us process our VISA applications.

This resulted in a 16-day tour during which we visited the following cities: Beijing, Harbin, Chengdu, Lhasa, Zhangjiajie, Yangshuo and Guilin. Riley organized for us the tickets for 6 domestic flights and 2 train trips. In each city we were welcomed by a tour guide and a driver. Everything went smoothly and everything was well organized.

We would like to thank Riley for her patient support and would book our next trip to China with her again.

Livia Gu was more than very helpful with putting this trip together for my friend and myself. After a Train trip from Hong Kong to Guilin, the driver, Mr Wang, and our fabulous guide Jennifer collected us from the station and took very good care of us for the next 4 days. A camera left half way up a hill at a restaurant was delivered to our hotel room a short while later, such lovely locals. All was organised perfectly and the service was amazing. The landscape was even more beautiful than what we expected and I was blown away by the friendliness of the locals. Everything was clean as well. Would definitely book any trips with Livia. We have just returned from a 22 day private tour organized by the wonderful Wendy Dan.

We were a little worried about booking and paying for a tour run by a company in another country but Wendy eased all of our fears every step of the way, from her reassuring emails to letting us know every time the money was recieved.As for the tour we could not have had a better time. We saw many sights we had never seen before. Going in the off season was great, although a couple of our expected visits were closed due to the winter and lead up to golden week we did not want for fun filled days. The ques are also short in the off season. Eg 5 minute wait to get on the glass elevator instead of 4 hours.

We have visited so many places there are too many to mention. As this was our fourth trip to china we wanted to see something different. From the stone forrest to the rice field's filled with water, a show at romance park, cable car rides walks along the glass walkway we were not dissapointed. As for our guides we could not have chosen them better. They were all knowledgeable kind and considerate.our stand out guides were Nancy in Dali. Tony in Zhangjiajie and the wonderful Danny in Guilin. We have never smiled so much.

We can still hear Danny screaming in the haunted house. And smiling at us when we joined in we ith the happy dance at the end of the show.

The tour was way beyond our expectations .The cost was less than that of a huge group tour by one of the Aussie tour companies.

I recently visited Guilin with my 79-year-old parents as a side trip from their visit to my husband and I in Hong Kong, I found them online when looking for high-speed train tickets. This is a reliable and professional tour company, Wing our travel consultant worked with me to get the itinerary right and was very understanding of our needs. Our guide Alice and our driver were amazing across the 4 days, nothing was too much trouble and they went above and beyond to assist my parents who are both a little slow to get around these days but managed. Alice as very knowledgable giving us plenty of interesting information on each of the areas we visited as well as great tips on where to eat and what to do. We felt safe in the vehicle as the driver was excellent, he was also very helpful to my mother. I would recommend this company and I will also be using them again for future visits to other parts of China.
