Despite some reservations we took advantage of the free stopover currently offered by Air China on our trip to Phuket.The Air China experience was exactly what you would expect from the largest Star Alliance member excellent the cabin crew were brilliant ! As a British passport holder no need for any preliminary visa applications or paperwork,just find the temporary visa desk on arrival near passport control and they make it easy for you to get the correct paperwork.As the Air China flight to Phuket was considerably less than others this freed up the budget to use in the 24 hrs stopover each way Result !

We chose China Discovery to help us with this we landed in Beijing and they met us on arrival and drove the 90 minutes to visit The Great Wall at Mutianyu,a amazing feet of engineering and unforgettable experience. Made better by our guide Lilly perfect English and so knowledgeable. The younger ones can even come down by taboggan !

Straight forward next day to continue onward to Phuket.

On our return 24 hrs in Chengdu was the stopover, again met by Sarah and driver with the advice given to visit the Panda Research Centre.Watching and learning about the Panda was a unique and beautiful experience, considering when born the size of a small egg to grow into such a huge animal that looks so cute was a complete eye opener.

For any one looking to travel Thailand/Philippines etc this is a great opportunity to get two holidays for the cost of one !!
