Best Time to Visit Ordos
Based on the tourism score, the best time to visit Ordos is from June to October. The weather is warm and comfortable in Ordos from mid June to late August. It’s a good time to go to Ordos Grassland and enjoy riding a horse on the vast verdant meadow. If you are planning to visit Kubuqi Desert in the north and northwest part of Ordos, summer and autumn are good seasons to go, especially in early autumn from September to early October, when the sky is clear and the temperature starts to drop, it is the best time to do desert hiking and other fun activities in the desert (like camel riding, jeep safari and sand sliding, etc.). Ordos Seasons to Go
Ordos have four distinct seasons, cold and dry in winter from December to next February, windy and sandy in spring from March to May, warm and comfortable in summer from June to August and cool and clear in autumn from September to November.
Ordos Summer (June, July and August)
Ordos is warm in summer, with relatively concentrated rain. The average summer temperature in Ordos is around 19°C~21°C, which is much lower than in most parts of China. Therefore, it is one of the perfect places to escape summer heat. The months with the most precipitation are July and August, with an average monthly precipitation of more than 100mm. The total precipitation in the three summer months accounts for almost two thirds of the annual total precipitation.
What to Wear & Pack: Visitors can wear short sleeves, skirts and other summer clothes during the daytime and add long-sleeved shirts and trousers during the night. If you are planning to visit grasslands or deserts nearby, you are recommended to wear trousers. Summer is the most lush season in Ordos and a good time to visit grassland nearby. The temperature drops quickly in autumn in Ordos and frosts often occur. The average monthly temperature is around 14°C in September, turns to 7°C in October and lower than 0°C in November. The weather is crisp in autumn in Ordos. It’s the perfect time for desert hiking and doing outdoor activities.
What to Wear & Pack: Visitors are recommended to wear trousers, long sleeves, windbreakers and sweaters, etc. and add some warm clothes, thick coats during the night when visiting Ordos in autumn. Winters are long, cold and windy with little snow in Ordos. In spring, the temperature rises sharply, the precipitation is less, but the evaporation is large. Therefore, the climate in Ordos is dry and windy in spring, and extreme weather such as sandstorms may occur. The average seasonal temperature is around -9°C in winter and 7°C in spring. The average temperature varies greatly from March (-0.5°C) to May (14.5°C). The total amount of precipitation in spring and winter is about 55 mm, only about 15% of the total annual precipitation in Ordos. Spring is the season with the highest wind speed, and the average wind speed can reach 3.5 meters per second.
