Spring - The Best Time to Visit Xian
There is an ancient famous Chinese poet, writing about Xian’s spring, ”Dashing on my horse, jolly in spring breeze, one day for my eyes, to see all the Xi’an flowers .” Spring is the best time to visit Xian, with the blooming flowers and gentle breeze, especially from mid-march to May. Either biking along the ancient city wall atop the greenish vegetation surrounded or enjoying the hot spring at Huaqing Palace which was only open to the emperor in the ancient time, you will encounter the most vibrant Xian in this season.

Xian Weather in March
Since March, Xi'an gradually steps into the spring, and the temperature began to rise. The average temperature is 8°C / 46°F; the average high temperature is 14°C / 57°F; the average low temperature is 4°C / 39°F; the Average AQI is 83. Starting from this month, trees begin to germinate and flowers are blooming. It may be still a little bit cold at the beginning of the month, but with the increase of the temperature and sunny days, it becomes more and more suitable for outdoor activities.
Xian Weather in April
April is the best month of the year to visit Xi'an. This month offers most comfortable temperature, with an average temperature of 15°C /59°F, an average high temperature of 21°C / 70°F, an average low temperature of 10°C / 50°F and an average AQI of 80. Visiting Xi'an in this month, you only need to avoid the crowd traveling in spring, better not arranging your visiting on Qingming Festival holidays and weekends.
Xian Weather in May
In May, the temperature of Xi'an rises rapidly but still very comfortable. The average temperature is 20°C /68°F; the average maximum temperature is 26°C / 79°F; the average low temperature is 14°C / 57°F; the average AQI is 90. In the daytime, the sunshine at noon has begun to become strong, but it is not as strong as in summer. It offers good weather for outdoor sightseeing in Xi'an. However, Labor’s Day in early May and weekends should be avoided when traveling in May.

Ancient City Wall 西安古城墙 Pinyin: xī ān gǔ chéng qiáng

The ancient city wall of Xi'an is the oldest and most complete ancient city wall built in the world, and it has witnessed the history of the whole ancient capital Xi'an. Its circumference is 13.74 kilometers and it used to be a military defense facility, including moat, bridge, gate, arrow tower, corner tower, enemy tower, bell tower and so on. At present, you can choose to ride a bicycle along the ancient city wall and enjoy the cityscape from the ancient wall. It takes about two hours to complete one ride. Qianling Mausoleum 乾陵 Pinyin: qián líng

Qianling, about 40 kilometers away from Xi'an Airport, was built from 684 AD to 706 AD. It covers an area of 40 square kilometers. When the mausoleum was built, it was in the flourishing Tang Dynasty, with grand mausoleum scale and magnificent architecture. This is the only tomb that buried the couple of two emperors, and the only one mausoleum that has not got stolen. The Qianling Tomb is built on Liangshan Mountain, 6 kilometers north of Qianxian County. In spring, it has beautiful scenery along the sacred path leading to the Qianling Tomb. On both sides, there are various kinds of vivid animal and figure statues guarding the tomb. Two giant stone tablets stand outside the Qianling Tomb. However, unlike her husband’s tablet, there are no words left on the stone tablet of Wu Zetian, the only female emperor of China, leaving numbers of questions for the visiting people. Because of its great importance in archaeology, the Qianling Tomb is still under protection and has not been excavated yet.
Huaqing Palace 华清宫 Pinyin: huá qīng gōng

Huaqing Palace is situated 30 kilometers east of Xi'an City, adjacent to the terracotta warriors and horses. The Huaqing Palace is a temporary palace for the short stays away from the capital to enjoy the hot spring and scenery. The picturesque Li mountain is just right behind the palace. The hot spring water of Huaqing Palace overflows for thousands of years and the water quality is pure and mild, and contains various minerals. Besides Tang dynasty, emperors of Zhou Dynasty, Qin, Han, Sui dynasties also built a court at the Palace. Because of its invariable hot spring resources, and the love story between Tang Ming Emperor and his beautiful concubine Yang Guifei has made itself well-known in every household of China. Bai Juyi, a well-known poet of the Tang Dynasty even wrote an epic poem according to this story mentioned about this iconic site of Tang's empire.
