The Giant Wild Goose Pagoda is another iconic site in Xian and a must-see place for tourists. Upon the top floor of the tower, you can see the ancient capital Xian from a distance. Dacien Temple where the pagoda is located used to be the most famous and magnificent Buddhist temple in Tang Dynasty. It was built in 648AD, and has a history of more than 1300 years. The famous monk Xuanzang, known by nearly every household of China, once presided over the temple affairs and led the translation of Buddhist scriptures. He personally supervised the construction of the Giant Wild Goose Pagoda in the temple. Later, this Temple became the holy place of Mahayana Buddhism in China.
