How to Get to Xiamen? Flights & Trains to Xiamen
Flights to Xiamen
Xiamen Gaoqi International Airport (IATA: XMN) has flights from / to over 20 international destination including Tokyo, Sydney, Singapore, Seoul, London, Paris, Amsterdam, Hong Kong, Macau, etc. And it is also well linked by frequent flights with more than 80 domestic cities like Beijing, Shanghai, Xian, Guangzhou, Chengdu, Changsha, Wuhan, Chongqing, Lanzhou, Kunming, Lijiang, Hangzhou, Zhengzhou,Jinan, Wuyishan, Lhasa, Hohhot, Harbin, Guiyang, Guilin, Qingdao, Sanya, Shenzhen, Taiyuan, etc.
From airport to Xiamen Island downtown: it is about half hour’s driving distance (15-18 kilometers) to Xiamen downtown around Zhongshan Road. Besides, airport shuttle buses are available for your transfer to the downtown, ferry ports, train stations, etc.
Xiamen Xiang’an International Airport, the new airport in Xiamen, is under construction and is going to be put into use in 2023.
Trains to Xiamen
Xiamen has two main train stations under service, namely Xiamen Railway Station on Xiamen Island (downtown) and Xiamen North Railway Station at Jimei District. Travelers can take bullet trains to Xiamen from Shanghai (5-8 hours), Guangzhou (4 hours), Shenzhen (3.5 hours), Hong Kong (4 hours), Hangzhou (4.5-7 hours), Huangshan (4.5 hours), Beijing (10.5-11.5 hours), Guilin, Chengdu, Nanjing, etc. and some places in Fujian including Xiapu (2.5 hours), Wuyishan (3 hours), Fuzhou (1.5 hour), etc. with speed and comfort.
If you want to arrive closer to Gulangyu Island, book your train to Xiamen Railway Station which is also closer to Nanputuo Temple and other major attractions but offers not so many high speed trains. While, the relatively farther Xiamen North Railway Station is more used for high speed trains for your more flexible schedule choice of high speed train from more destinations. Besides, Xiamen North Railway Station can be connected by Xiamen Metro Line 1 with Xiamen Island.

What to Prepare for Visiting Xiamen
Valid travel documents including passport, air tickets or train tickets (round trip), cash (CNY), clothes of the season, sun block, hat, credit card, necessary digital device like mobile phone, camera, etc., are not to be missed to pack. Xiamen 144-hour Visa Free Transit
Since January 1st 2019, China has extended the 144-Hour Transit Visa Exemption Program to Xiamen for traveler who come from 53 countries, hold valid international travel documents and onward air ticket to a third country or region with confirmed date and seat. Therefore, the qualified citizens from other countries (regions) can stay in the administrative area of Xiamen for no more than 6 days via the appointed port of entry & exit - Xiamen Gaoqi International Airport, Xiamen Wutong Ferry Terminal, and Xiamen International Cruise Center.
However, since Nanjing and Yongding do not belong to the administrative region of Xiamen City, the 144-hour Visa Free Transit policy is not applicable for visitors planning to extend to visit Fujian Tulou, Mount Wuyi, Xiapu Mudflat, Quanzhou, Fuzhou, etc.!
