How to Get to Wuyishan, Wuyi Mountain Transportation 2024

Xiamen is mostly famed for its wonderful Gulangyu Island and nearby sacred Fujan Tulou (earthen buildings). Wuyishan is about 485km north of Xiamen. The best way to travel between these two cities is by high speed train. Every day from 7:00 to 17:00, there are 25 around high speed G-trains running from Xiamen to Wuyishan. The train ride needs only about 3~4 hours. There are also about 2 daily flights available. The flight journey takes about 1 hour or so.

Hong Kong in the south region of China is frequently chosen as the landing city to start a China tour. At present, there is no high speed train or direct flight airline between Hong Kong and Wuyishan. For the visitors want to get to Wuyishan from Hong Kong, you are suggested to get to Shenzhen or Xiamen first, and then make a transfer to Wuyi Mountain by flight or high speed train.

From Hong Kong to Shenzhen

Shenzhen is the right next door to Hong Kong, with a short flight distance for only about 38km (24 miles) and the driving distance is about 50km (31 miles). You can get from Hong Kong to Shenzhen by bullet train (15-20 minutes), MTR (0.5-2 hours), ferry (0.5-1 hours), and coach (1-4 hours). The high speed trains and MTR metros are the best choices.

From Hong Kong to Xiamen

Taking the direct bullet train from Hong Kong West Kowloon Station to Xiamen is the most convenient way. The train ride takes about 4~5 hours. However, the trains are limited. You are suggested to book your tickets in advance. Flights are also available. The duration is about 1.5 hours. However, those flights are much more expensive than the trains.

Fuzhou, the capital of Fujian Province, is about 265 kilometers southeast of Wuyi Mountain. Driving from Fuzhou to Wuyi Mountain needs about 3~4 hours. There are also frequent high speed trains between them. The train ride needs about 1~1.5 hours. All the trains run from Fuzhou Railway Station (福州站). Half of them will make stops at Wuyishan North Railway Station (武夷山北站), and the rest half will make stops at Nanping Railway Station (南平市站).

Fujian Tulou mainly refers to the series of Tulou Clusters in the remote area of Yongding County, Nanjing County and Hua’an County in Fujian Province. The best way to go between Wuyi Mountain and Fujian Tulou (including Nanjing Tulou, Yongding Tulou and Hua’an Tulou) is by private car. Driving from one side to another needs about 5.5~7 hours. The time varies according to different region of Fujian Tulou you are heading to.

You can also choose a local bus or private car to Nanjing Railway Station (南靖站) first, and then take the high speed train to Wuyishan. However, remember that the traffic condition in the remote area is very complex. And the Tulou clusters scattered in the mountain, which is hard to navigate for visitors. Shanghai is about 640 kilometers northeast of Wuyi Mountain. These two cities are well-connected by high speed train. Every day, there are about 12 bullet trains running between Shanghai and Wuyi Mountain from 7:00 am to 19:00 pm. All the trains make departures from Shanghai Hongqiao Railway Station (上海虹桥站) in Shanghai, and most of them will make stops at Nanping Railway Station (南平市站), while about 2 will make stops at Wuyishan North Railway Station.

Huangshan, also known as Yellow Mountain, is about 344 kilometers northeast of Wuyi Mountain. Riding a high speed train from Huangshan to Wuyi Mountain needs only 1~1.5 hours around. Every day, there are about 18 bullet train running between them, including 15 trains from Huangshan North Railway Station (黄山北站) to Nanping Railway Station (南平市站) and 3 trains from Huangshan North Railway Station (黄山北站) to Wuyishan North Railway Station (武夷山北站).

Guangzhou, the capital of Guangdong Province, is about 850 northeast of Wuyi Mountain. At present, there is no direct high speed train between Guangzhou and Wuyi Mountain. To go between these two places, you can choose the flight. Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport operates about 2 daily flights to Wuyishan Airport. The flights make departures in the noon, and the flight journey takes about 1.5 hours.

Since the direct flights are limited, you can also choose to make a transfer by high speed train via Xiamen or Shenzhen. Shenzhen operates about 4 daily high speed trains to Wuyishan, and Xiamen operates about 25 bullet trains.
