Xinzhou Wutaishan Airport is the only and nearest airport serving tourists to Mount Wutai and Xinzhou City. Put into operation at the end of 2015, this airport is a small airport dually used for civilian and military purpose. Currently, it has flights flying between Wutaishan and over 10 cities in China, including Shanghai, Chengdu, Chongqing, Hangzhou, Nanjing, Tianjin, Xiamen, Changsha, Guiyang, Harbin, Shenyang, Baotou and Wenzhou. Tourists from abroad can also take irregular flights to Wutaishan Airport from Nha Trang in Vietnam.

Xinzhou Wutaishan Airport Transportation - To Mount Wutai and Xinzhou City
● Get from Xinzhou Wutaishan Airport to Mount Wutai
Taihuai Town, the core of Mount Wutai, lies about 110 km northeast of Xinzhou Wutaishan Airport. After landing, there are local taxis or airport shuttle buses commuting between the airport and Mount Wutai. It takes about 2 hours to get to Taihuai Town by a taxi and airport shuttle bus costs a bit longer. It’s more recommended to take a taxi, because you can quickly transfer to your hotel straightforwardly.

Xinzhou City is located about 40 km southwest of Xinzhou Wutaishan Airport, about 1 hour’s driving. Meanwhile, there are 3 airport shuttle buses running daily from the airport to downtown Xinzhou.
Yanmen Pass, a fortress along the Great Wall of Han Dynasty in Dai County, Xinzhou City is situated about 105 km north of Xinzhou Wutaishan Airport. If you want to visit the ancient pass from the airport, the driving needs 1.5 hours to 2 hours.

If you are Buddhists, you can take the Xiao Chaotai (Small Kora) to Dailuo Ding Temple if you are short on time, or go to the high-altitude Five Terraces to worship Manjusri Bodhisattvas on the five peaks of Mount Wutai – East Terrace, North Terrace, Central Terrace, West Terrace and South Terrace, which usually costs two full days.
