Mount Wutai (113° 29'- 113° 39'E, 38° 55'- 39° 66'N), subordinate to Xinzhou City of Shanxi Province, is located in the northern part of Shanxi Province, with a total area of 607 square kilometers. It belongs to the northern end of Taihang mountain, and is surrounded by five counties, 78km to Wutai County. The central area of Mount Wutai is Taihuai town. It's about 350km to Beijing and 150km to Xinzhou City, 200km to Shanxi's capital city, Taiyuan.

Mount Wutai (Wutaishan) Transportation Maps
Mount Wutai is well-connected by direct tourist buses from Beijing, Taiyuan, Datong, Xinzhou, Shijiazhuang, and other surrounding cities. Apart from taking a bus to Mount Wutai, if you depart from other Chinese cities like Shanghai, Chengdu, Chongqing, Hangzhou, Nanjing, and so on, you can also take a flight Xinzhou Wutaishan Airport which is about 110km to Taihuai Town, the core area of Mout Wutai. Besides, some tourists would like to take a high-speed bullet train to Xinzhou West Railway Station and transfer to Mount Wutai by bus/taxi/private car. How to Plan Your Mount Wutai Tour
How to Get to Mount Wutai: You can get there by flights from Shanghai (2.5hrs), Chengdu (2.5hrs), Hangzhou (2hrs), etc. or travel to Mount Wutai from Datong, Pingyao, and Taiyuan by driving.
Best Time to Visit Mount Wutai - May to September: Bring your extra layers and umbrella/raincoat always.
Where to Stay During Your Tour: You can accommodate in Taihuai Town which provides flexible choices of hotels from guest house to luxury 5 stars. If you want to hike the Da Chaotai (Big Kora), you have to stay a night in a temple or local guest house.
