For any individuals, their motherland may represent the root from which they sprang. For Lucy, China is the place where her ancestors lived and worked. The ancestral village is not just an ancient residence but a symbol of shared heritage and a sense of connection.
Lucy, along with her siblings, sister-in-law, and niece, went on a 7-day journey to Fujian, visiting Xiamen, Anxi, and Yongan. The trip was thoughtfully customized by Vivien from China Discovery. Xiamen served as the starting city for Lucy's family planning a return trip to their hometown. Anxi was their ancestral village with deep roots, while Yongan was rich in history and cultural heritage with traditional Fujian style. "We are so fortunate to find Vivien Li from China Discovery who helps us arrange a visit to our ancestral village, Anxi where we visited an elementary school built by our grand uncle in 1937, suggested by my late father!" This journey was not just about seeing sights and taking photographs – it was unearthing pieces of oneself waiting to be awakened by the call of their homeland to connect with roots, to see the places that had shaped the family’s history.
Day 1~2 Xiamen Arrival & Highlights Exploration
Their trip began in Xiamen, a bustling coastal city known for its beautiful scenery and historical significance. After a short rest of their flight, Lucy’s family proceeded to Huandao Road, which stretched gracefully around the eastern coastline of the city. This scenic route, embraced by the sea on one side and verdant landscapes on the other, offered breathtaking views that seamlessly blend natural beauty with the modern charm of Xiamen.
Continuing their exploration on the 2nd day, they made their way to two landmarks steeped in history and spirituality. One was Gulangyu Island, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2017. Seeing its preserved colonial-era architecture and lush gardens, Lucy’s family was transported back in time. The other spiritual gem was South Putuo Temple, which is the most prosperous temple in Xiamen and renowned for its Buddhist teachings.
Day 3~4 A Homeward Journey to Anxi
On the 3rd day, Lucy’s family was driven to Anxi County, the homeland of Lucy's ancestor and a region renowned for its exquisite tea cultivation, especially celebrated for producing some of the finest oolong teas. First on their itinerary was the Tea Museum, where they got a repository of knowledge dedicated to the art of tea-making. The most exciting things were visiting Anxi Penglai Elementary School built by Lucy's grand uncle and reunited with relatives. "The highlight of the tour was being welcomed by Anxi Penglai Elementary School with the head principal, Mr. Chen and staff with school children welcoming us with flower bouquets! Also visit to our ancestral home visiting our distant cousins and uncles and aunts whom we have never met!"
The following day, they went to visit Qinshuiyan, a perfect blend of Min Nan culture and grandeur of nature. After leaving Anxi, they headed to Yongan.

Day 5~7 Sightseeing Excursions in Yongan
Their first stop in Yongan was Jishan Village which presented rural tranquility and age-old tradition. Founded during the Ming Dynasty, this village was a living museum of Minnan culture, where the past whispered softly through narrow cobblestone streets, ancestral homes, and ancient wells. The houses predominantly built with red bricks and grey tiles, bore the distinctive architectural features of the southern Fujian style.
Then they proceeded to Gongchuan Ancient Town, which was the best-preserved ancient town in Fujian and also known as the “town of scholars”, earned its nickname due to its reputation as a breeding ground for scholars and intellectuals during imperial times. Its history is deeply interwoven with education and learning, reflected in the numerous academies and study halls that once dotted the town.
On the 6th day, their trip led to Anzhen Fort. It combined residential comfort with military defense, embodying the resilience and creativity of its inhabitants. Back to Xiamen, they strolled Zhongshan Road, an iconic pedestrian street that perfectly embodied a fusion of history, culture, and modern vibrancy. "We also enjoyed the Anzhan Fort visit in YongAn and the Zhongshan rd stroll in Xiamen as well as Gulangyu!" Lucy's family expressed preference to the tourist spots.

What's more, the food during the trip was equally delightful. "We also enjoyed sumptuous lunch at Ji-An and at Yong-An on a farm!"Lucy's family were escorted to the airport for departure on the 7th day.

Caring Companionship: Arrange Wheelchair Travel for the Elderly
During the trip planning stage, Vivien received the information that Lucy's elderly sister was 88 years old and petite. At Lucy's request, it was essential to prepare a wheelchair. Vivien then got in touch with the reliable guide Michael to arrange for the rental of a wheelchair. As the plane landed, Michael was waiting at the arrival gate with the wheelchair to ensure the comfort and convenience of the elderly traveler. “The tour guide Michael Wen and driver Mr Chang were outstanding, very caring took care of my 88-year-old elderly sister who has a heart condition and has to be in the wheelchair.”
Considering their physical conditions, Vivien tried to strike a balance between sightseeing and rest, so they would have enough time for relaxation. After receiving the request from Lucy to visit Xiamen, Anxi, and Yongan, Vivien made a well-planned itinerary to meet their needs. "Vivien did an excellent job arranging the tour guide, car and driver. She was very professional and responsive to all our inquiries and needs. The entire itinerary was well planned."
