Leshan city is in the southwest of Sichuan, about 150 kilometers away from Chengdu, the capital of Sichuan Province. Leshan Giant Buddha, also known as Lingyun Giant Buddha is located by the Minjiang River, Qingyi River and Dadu River, facing Leshan City across the river. As the region is located near 29 ° north latitude, the city belongs to the subtropical climate zone, with four distinct seasons, abundant rainfall, long frost free period. The annual average temperature is between 16.5℃ and 18.0 ℃, and the annual average frost free period is more than 300 days. From the foothills to the top of the mountain, there are different climate zones: middle subtropical zone, warm temperate zone, warm temperate zone, cold temperate zone. Affected by the monsoon and the uplift of the terrain, the climate is humid and the rainfall is abundant. In most areas, the annual average precipitation is more than 1000mm. The precipitation in summer and autumn accounts for about 80% of the whole year, while the rainfall in winter and spring only accounts for 20%. The annual minimum precipitation is mostly below 900mm, and the annual maximum precipitation in some areas is more than 2000mm.
Best Time to Visit Leshan Giant Buddha
You can visit Leshan in any season you want. The best time to visit Leshan is spring (March~May) and autumn (September to November). During these two seasons, the weather is more comfortable, neither rainy nor cold. Summer is also a good season to escape the sultriness in the urban area. However, you may encounter a lot of tourists here from late June to August and on weekends and holiday in early October.

- It is the coldest in Leshan with fewer tourists with the temperature from 8°C to 12 °C. Though it barely snows, if you are lucky, you may encounter the snow-covered Giant Buddha.

- It is very humid and cold in winter, especially on the mountain area or by the river.
