3 Days Mount Emei Leshan Giant Buddha Highlights Tour with Emei Kung Fu Class

Memorable Mount Emei Journey

About 2300 years ago, a hermit whose name is Situ Xuankong, created Emei Tongbi Boxing (Arm Fist Boxing) after imitating the movements of wild monkeys in Emei Mountain, which is believed to be the first time that Chinese Kung fu (the Martial Art) recorded in the history, making Emei Mountain the real origin of Chinese Kung Fu. Till today, Emei Kung Fu has become one of Three Most Important Chinese Kung Fu Sects (other two are Shaolin Kung Fu and Wudang Kung Fu), also has been listed in National Intangible Cultural Heritage.

China Discovery is honored to co-operate with a master of Emei Kung Fu - Qiao Zhengquan, who is also an inheritor of National Intangible Cultural Heritage of Kung Fu to provide opportunities for Kung Fu lovers to learn about the theory and manners as well as learn to acquire some skill of authentic Emei Kungfu, which will be organized at the beautiful lower area of Mount Emei, usually in a Buddhist temple. After the Kung Fu class, you also have chance to explore the Golden Summit and other highlights of Mount Emei. You will also take a visit to the nearby Leshan Giant Buddha. What a memorable journey!

Day 2 Mount Emei Hiking & Sightseeing (B, L)

Highlights of today: Mount Emei, Golden Summit, Huazang Temple

Get up early to have breakfast and pack well, then go to Emeishan Tourist Center to take an eco-bus to Wuxiangang Parking Lot. You will start hiking from the parking lot, towards the tranquil Qingyin Pavilion which is one of the most beautiful places in Mount Emei. Spend some time there to explore ancient temples there, then keep walking about 2 km/2hrs to Wannian Temple. This Buddhist temple is one of the most ancient temples on Mount Emei. Its treasure is a bronze statue of Bodhisattva Puxian sitting on a white elephant, which highly represents the foundry art practiced during the Song Dynasty (960 - 1279). Spend about 1 hour seeing temples, then walk down to Wannian Temple Parking Lot to take an eco-bus directly up to Leidongping, which takes about 2 hours. Leidongping is located at the upper region of Mount Emei with an elevation of 2430m. You will have lunch at Leidongping before setting out for the mountain top.

Keep on walking about 30mins along stone steps to the cable car station, along which you will have chance to see the wild monkeys. Take a cable car (about 5mins) up to the Golden Summit (3077m) which is the biggest highlight and very essence of Mount Emei. Once you get to the Golden Summit, the first view appearing in front of you is a towering multi-faced golden statue (48m) of Samantabhadra Bodhisattva. Next to the golden statue sits the bronze Huazang Temple which is the first temple established on Mount Emei whose history can be traced back to 1st century CE. You can stroll around the Golden Summit to explore Buddhist architecture and tradition, and enjoy panoramic view of Mount Emei and surrounding. In clear days, you can even see the snow-clad of Mount Gongga (7556m), Asia’s largest table mountain - Wawu Mountain and winding rivers flowing through Emeishan city. If weather permits, you will have luck to enjoy its magnificent wonder of Cloud Sea.

Sightsee around 1.5 hours on the Golden Summit area, then descend by cable car to Leidongping and take eco-Bus again back to the tourist center. Your private car is ready to transfer you back to your hotel.

Optional visit to Wanfoding (Ten Thousands Buddha Peak): Wanfoding (3099m), the highest peak in Mount Emei, is currently reopening to tourists who are less 60 years old, but it is only open during 07:00~14:00, and the largest allowed capacity is only 2000 tourists per day. If you want to visit Wanfoding and time allows, please discuss with your tour guide. It usually takes about 2~3 hours to visit Wanfoding.

Day 3 Leshan Giant Buddha - Chengdu ( B, L )

Highlights of today: Leshan Giant Buddha, Huanglongxi Ancient Town

After breakfast, set out early from your hotel to visit the UNESCO World Heritage Site - Leshan Giant Buddha when it is less-crowded. Carved during AD713~803 on a mountain rock cliff by the river, with its head reaching to the mountain top and its feet standing next to the river, Leshan Giant Buddha is the largest and tallest stone-carved statue of Buddha in the world. The total height is 71 meters; while the head is 14.7meters high and 10 meters wide, ear is 7meters high, 28 meters between knees and insteps. Its insteps can hold over a hundred people. On the right cliff of the Giant Buddha, there is a plank road built along with the Giant Buddha. You may be wondering why such a giant Buddha was built? It is said to have been built to calm the turbulent waters that plagued passing boats and killed many people each year in ancient time. From the top to foot, the plank road has nine turns, thus it’s called Nine Bends Plank Road. The widest part of the road is 1.45m and the narrowest part is only 0.6m, and there are 217 stone steps in total. You will walk down to the feet of the Giant Buddha for a closer view.

After Giant Buddha visit, drive back to Chengdu and visit Huanglongxi Ancient Town on route. In spite of a history of 1700 years, Huanglongxi Ancient Town till remains its antique flavor given off by ancient buildings and old folklore custom. The featured layout and architectures make it a national film and television photography base and 150 more movies have been shot here. You can turn to any direction to find something interesting to explore, like courtyards, ancient banyan trees, or foot bridges. Strolling alongside the running stream or dabbling in the water which run through the town will be an enjoyable experience and you will feel a cool and refreshing summer.

Lastly, drive back to your hotel in Chengdu. Our service ends.

Hi Rita,

Please kindly see the feedback below.

We are a family of 7. This private tour package definitely met our expectations! Both tour guides (Chengdu- MAY & Chongqing-DAVID) provided us a very good service, both friendly and very flexible despite the change in our tour schedules. They were also very responsible and ensured our safety, meals and transports were well taken care of, especially since we have elderly and kids in our group. Both tour guides are very fluent in English too so it is very convenient for some of the non-chinese speakers in our group.

We will look for the same tour agent again in our next trip to China!

Best Regards,

Victoria

Hi Shirley,

Thanks for the tour, and the itinerary that you planned for us was very comprehensive and detailed. We enjoyed it very much. The tour guide was also very friendly and experienced. He followed your itinerary closely and brought us to all the sites and explained in detail. He also recommended and brought us to enjoy some of the local cuisines during lunch.

Overall, we are impressed by the excellent service, reliability and quality that yourself, the tour guide and the driver has provided us. We would like to visit China again and we will not hesitate to engage your services again. Thank you!

Regards

Hi Shirley,

I'm writing to provide some feedback on our recent Xian and Beijing trip that you put together for us.

We travel a lot, in the past year to Japan, New Zealand, China, Turkey, Africa, China, and finally this Xian/Beijing trip. I bring this up to highlight that we deal with a lot of travel professionals. You are easily the best travel professional we have dealt with through all of those trips. My wife, who happens to be Chinese asked me to make sure to keep your contact information for future China trips, with the intention of replacing the China based agent her brother usually uses for our trips.

Please let your manager know that we would probably not have used your company if not for you. Bamboo Travel is new to us and in a foreign country, so we had doubts as to what to expect. Your service was excellent from start to finish which really gave us confidence in your company. We had a little bit of an unusual itinerary and some constraints related to our other China travel prior to this tour. You were able to work through all of our issues with fast responses to our questions.

You also went what I would say was above and beyond expectations. The final example of that is a friend in the US was shipping some things to our hotel in Beijing for me to bring home to her. I contacted you to confirm the hotel name before they shipped the items, expecting I would then have to figure out the shipping details. Your reply not only confirmed the hotel, but you provided the shipping info in both English and Chinese, which saved me the hassle of trying to figure which address to use. Not a huge thing, but it's those small things that add up to a big difference in customer experience.

Thanks again for everything!

Xian:

Our guide was Waldner and we liked him from the start. We were just coming off another tour with another company which had maybe the best tour leader we've ever had. Even though we were always comparing Waldner measured up well. He was great at explaining the history of places we visited as well as answering our cultural questions. The restaurants/food were very good. He and the driver also modified the itinerary somewhat to optimize the driving based on our arrival and departure times and locations. We liked the hotel in Xian. The car (van) was very comfortable. Waldner also helped arrange tickets for a night show for us.

Beijing:

Pickup was great; even though we got in late the guide that picked us up was there and actually met us at the track. Cindy was our guide and we really liked her also. She is very knowledgeable and willing to answer (a lot of) questions. This was my 3rd time in Beijing and it was amazing what a difference having a good guide made. Cindy and the driver also modified the itinerary to optimize the driving. She also helped us book tickets to two shows, one of which was not on your list of optional items (Lao She tea house). Cindy was concerned about us ordering a cab so she stayed at the show to make sure we got back to our hotel ok. The restaurants/food were very good. The hotel was good but not great; for example we had hot water issues every day, and when I went to pick up a package that was shipped to me they just left me to dig through a pretty large pile of packages all addressed in Chinese.

To wrap up, I would rate the overall experience of looking for a trip, picking a company, and traveling 9.5 out of 10. Shirley, your service was 10 out of 10.

See you next trip!

Dear Rita,

Feedback.

The trip organised by Rita Jiang to Beijing and Xian was very well planned and enjoyable, showing the best of Chinese history, culture, heritage, and enormous progress.

Your 2 guides, Linda Chua and Beryl are very good. Linda went out of her way to take us to Peking Opera at night. The kids were tired, so we did not go to Summer palace and Heavenly temple, and did not go to Xian Pagoda. It was our choice, so its ok. (I have been to all)

The 2 bus drivers were excellent, very careful, disciplined and good temperament and helpful. I could not give a tip to Beryl at Xian station, as I had to rush into toilet inside, and did not know she could not enter the train Station.

The pace was good, but the last day of train from Xian, to hotel (plus late dinner scrabbling in Beijing), then early next morning to airport was too Hectic. However, it was because we had to return on 8.12.24. we wish we could stay longer in Xian, and elsewhere. We could probably have gone to Xian by train, then fly back to Beijing by plane, but one way tickets could cost much more.

Anyway, thank you very much for all your fine arrangements. We all enjoyed the short trip.

For the kids, the major highlights were the Great Wall, Terracotta warriors, Acrobatic show. They will treasure. I will plan more trips for them to China.

Best wishes and warm regards,

Richard

Most Important Mount Emei Travel Notes

1. Why Travel with China Discovery’s Private Tours?

All-inclusive tour package to let you enjoy the best of Mount Emei as well as Leshan Giant Buddha, Chengdu, Jiuzhaigou, Daocheng Yading, Mount Siguniang, etc.

2. Where is Mount Emei and how to get there

Mount Emei is located about 140km south from Chengdu downtown, approximately 2 hours’ driving or 1 hour’s high speed train. You are suggested to get there with China Discovery’s comfortable and efficient private transfers so that you can focus 100% on enjoy sightseeing. If you want to experience high speed train, we can also arrange for you.

3. How to plan Mount Emei tour?

A Mount Emei tour usually starts from Chengdu (about 2hrs’ driving or 1 hour’s high speed train), and includes a visit to nearby Leshan Giant Buddha. You can visit Mount Emei in 1 day (only exploring the Golden Summit area), in 2 days (hiking and spend a night on the mountain for sunrise and sunset), or in 3 days for an in-depth hiking. Eco-bus and cable cars are available to save time and energy.

4. Where to stay, on the Mountain or in the city?

Travelers usually stay a night in Emeishan city or Baoguo Temple area at the foot of the mountain for the arrival night. You don’t have to stay one more night in Emeishan city or on the mountain for extra nights if you only take the classic day tour. If you want to take the classic hike to Golden Summit, you need to stay a night on the mountain, usually at Leidongping or Golden Summit where there are some hotels offer rooms, but not as good as you’ll get in the city. If you want to take the longer hiking of 3 days, you need to stay an extra night at a temple on the mountain.

5. Mount Emei weather and best time to visit

Mount Emei is available for traveling all year around. There are different things to explore in different seasons, such as floras in spring, waterfalls in summer, red leaves in autumn and snow in winter. The best two periods are April to June and September to November when the weather is more enjoyable and there are less crowds. If you go to visit Mount Emei in winters when the scenery is also very stunning, you need to walk very carefully as the steps are slippery with frozen ice.

6. You can use Eco buses and cable cars to shorten your hiking

Hiking from the foot to the summit of Mount Emei takes at least 2 days, thus eco-bus and cable cars are operated to shorten your hiking, save energy and time. If you take the classic day tour, you will take eco-bus from tourist center to Leidongping, then shift to cable car to reach Golden Summit. If you take the 2 days or 3 days hiking, you can take eco-bus to Wannian Temple Parking Lot or Wuxiangang Parking Lot to start your hiking. It takes about 2 hours to get to Leidongping, 30mins to get to Wannian Temple Parking Lot and Wuxiangang Parking Lot by eco-bus. There are two cableways on Mount Emei, one connecting Wanian Temple Parking Lot to Wannian Temple which is only taken by hikers and Buddhists , the other connecting Jieyin Pavilion to Golden Summit which is taken by most of travelers. The cableways have two ways, our suggestion is take the round-trip cable cars, or take one-way cable car and walk the other way, i.e. walking up Golden Summit and descent by cable car.
