Yantai Penglai International Airport (IATA: YNT)
Address: Chaoshui Town, Penglai District, Yantai City 中国山东省烟台市蓬莱区潮水镇
Transportation: about 45 km (1 hour by car, 2 hours by bus) to Yantai downtown (Yantai Hill, Changyu Wine Culture Museum), 40 km (1 hour by car, 2 hours by bus) to Penglai Pavilion.
Yantai Penglai International Airport (烟台蓬莱国际机场) is now the only airport in operation in Yantai. As of November 2020, the airport opens 61 airlines connecting about 60 cities in 4 countries and regions. You can take direct flights transferring between Yantai and domestic cities like Beijing (1.5h), Shanghai (2h), Xian (2.5h), Chengdu (3h), Guangzhou (3h), Shenzhen (3.5h), Chongqing (2h45min), Kunming (3h10min), etc. and foreign cities such as Seoul (1.5h) and Osaka (2.5h).

Get to Yantai by Train
There are mainly 2 railway stations serving Yantai, which are Yantai Railway Station and Yantai South Railway Station. They are about 30 minutes’ drive away, so you need to pay attention to your train ticket information and do not mix them up.

Transportation: about 2 km (10 minutes by car) to Yantai Downtown (Yantai Hill, Changyu Wine Culture Museum), 75 km (1.5 hours by car) to Penglai Pavilion, 45 km (70 minutes by car) to Yantai Penglai International Airport.
Yantai Railway Station is in Yantai downtown and serves most trains passing Yantai. It operates both normal Z/T/K trains and high speed G/D/C trains. You can transfer between Yantai and major cities in China such as Beijing (6-14h), Xian (8.5-24h) Shanghai (8.5h) and cities with in Shandong like Qingdao (1.5h), Jinan (2.5-6.5h), Taian (4-8.5h), Qufu (4-8h), and Weihai (1h).

Address: Qujiazhuang Village, Laishan District, Yantai 山东省烟台市莱山区曲家庄村
Transportation: about 14 km (30 minutes by car, 1 hour by bus) to Yantai Downtown (Yantai Hill, Changyu Wine Culture Museum), 83 km (1.5 hours by car) to Penglai Pavilion, 50 km (45 minutes by car) to Yantai Penglai International Airport.
Yantai South Railway Station is a high speed rail station serving Qingdao-Rongcheng Intercity Railway. It only operates high-speed G or D trains and intercity C trains running on this railway. It connects Yantai with cities like Beijing (5h), Xian (9-10h), Shanghai (8h), Taiyuan (6.5h), Qingdao (1.5h), Jinan (2.5-3.5h), Taian (4h), Qufu (4h).

Get from Beijing to Yantai
Beijing is located 730 km to the northwest of Yantai. With direct flights and high speed strains, tourists can travel between these two cities conveniently.
By Flight: 1.5 hours. From about 06:00 to 22:30, there are about 10 direct flights a day from Beijing Capital International Airport and Beijing Daxing International Airport to Yantai Penglai International Airport. As the airports in Beijing and Yantai are a little far from downtown, the total time you need is much the same as high speed train.
By High Speed Train: 5-6 hours. Every day, 4 high speed trains depart from Beijing South Railway Station to Yantai Railway Station and Yantai South Railway Station. Three of them are in the morning and one is in the afternoon.
By Normal Train: about 14 hours. One normal train runs from Beijing Railway Station to Yantai Railway Station. It leaves in the afternoon and arrives in the morning next day.

Get from Shanghai to Yantai
Shanghai is about 920 km to the south of Yantai. Both flights and high speed trains are available. As it is too long a distance, traveling by flight is more recommended.
By Flight: 2 hours. There are over 10 direct flights a day from Shanghai Hongqiao Internation Airport and Shanghai Pudong International Airport to Yantai Penglai International Airport. Please be noted that you are advised to set aside 2 hours for security check and boarding.
By High Speed Train: 8-8.5 hours. There are 2 high speed trains running from Shanghai Hongqiao Railway Station to Yantai Railway Station and Yantai South Railway Station. It will be a little time-consuming and exhausting for such a long trip.

Get from Qingdao to Yantai
Qingdao is an international coastal city in Shandong. People always travel Yantai after Qingdao because they are only 220 km away and the frequent high speed trains can finish the transfer conveniently.
By High Speed Train: about 1.5 hours. There are over 10 high speed D and C trains running between Qingdao Railway Station and Qingdao North Railway Station to Yantai Railway Station and Yantai South Railway Station from about 07:00 in the morning to 21:00 at night.
By Private Car: about 3 hours. Private car is also an option and doesn’t take a long time thanks to the well-paved highway between Qingdao and Yantai.

Get from Jinan to Yantai
Jinan, the capital of Shandong Province, has convenient transportation to other prefecture cities including Yantai. They are 445 km (5 hours by car) away and taking a high speed train is the fastest.
By High Speed Train: 2.5-3.5 hours. There are nearly 40 high speed trains every day from Jinan Railway Station, Jinan East Railway Station, Jinan West Railway Station to Yantai Railway Station and Yantai South Railway Station from about 06:00 to 20:30. The frequent schedule really facilitates tourists a lot.
By Normal Train: about 5.5-6.5 hours. There are 3 normal trains and they all depart at midnight or in the early morning, thus are not recommended.

Get from Taian (Mount Tai) to Yantai
Taian is where sacred Mount Tai locates. It is about 520 km (6.5 hours by car) to the southwest of Yantai. High speed train is the most recommended travelling way.
By High Speed Train: 3.5-4 hours. There are about 4 high speed trains every day from Taian Railway Station to Yantai Railway Station and Yantai South Railway Station. One train departs in the morning around 08:30 and the other three are in the afternoon.
By Normal Train: about 8.5 hours. There is one normal train available from Taishan Railway Station to Yantai Railway Station. It departs around 04:30 in the morning so it is not favorable.

Get from Qufu to Yantai
Qufu, the hometown of the great thinker and educator Confucius, is about 580 km to the southwest of Yantai. Traveling by car would be too tiring. The fast and comfortable high speed train is the most recommended.
By High Speed Train: 4-4.5 hours. There are about 10 high speed trains every day from Qufu East Railway Station to Yantai Railway Station and Yantai South Railway Station from about 07:00 to 18:00. The fastest G train only needs 3h40min.
By Normal Train: about 8 hours. There is one normal train available from Qufu Railway Station to Yantai Railway Station. It departs at midnight so you need to spend a night on the train.

Travel around in Yantai City
Most attractions such as Yantai Hill and Changyu Wine Culture Museum are in Yantai downtown where you can easily get to by bus or even on foot. Some attractions like Yantai Gold Beach, Yangma Island and Kunyu Mountain is a little far but can also be conveniently reached by bus or taxi. Penglai Pavilion is probably the farthest but a highlight of Yantai trip. The most convenient way is by taxi or charting a car.
How to Get to Penglai Pavilion
Penglai Pavilion is an AAAAA tourist site in Yantai famous for its fairyland-like scenery. It is located in Penglai district, about 74 km (1 hour 40 minutes by car) to Yantai downtown. Independent travellers can take a coach (about 1.5 hours) from Yantai Passenger Station (near Yantai Railway Station), Yantai South Passenger Station (near Yantai South Railway Station), or Yantai International Airport to Penglai Bus Station. The station is about 4 km to Penglai Pavilion Scenic Area. You can take a city bus or tourist bus to get there.

How to Plan Yantai Tour
Generally, a classic Yantai tour takes at least 2 days (including arrival and departure days). If you arrive in Yantai in the morning, you can spend an afternoon immersing yourself in the legend of Eight Immortals Crossing the Sea in Penglai Pavilion. On the next day, it is recommended to first visit quaint Yantai Hill Park which is well-preserved with stone paths, leafy gardens and some other architectures, and then explore Chinese wine in Changyu Wine Culture Museum before you leave. If you have more time, you can have a relaxing stay in the beaches of Yantai, like Yantai Gold Beach, No. 1 Beach, No. 2 Beach, etc.
In fact, Yantai is always traveled with other cities in Shandong's coastline, including Qingdao and Weihai.
