Weihai Railway Station is the major train station that serves most trains passing Weihai. It operates both normal Z/T/K trains and high-speed G/D/C trains. You can transfer between Weihai and major cities in China such as Beijing (5.5-15h), Shanghai (8.5h) and cities within Shandong like Qingdao (1.5h), Jinan (3-4h), Taian (4.5h), and Qufu (4.5h).

Weihai North Railway Station is a high-speed rail station serving the Qingdao-Rongcheng Intercity Railway Section of Shandong Province. It mainly operates high-speed G or D trains and intercity C trains running on this railway. It connects many nearby cities like Shijiazhuang (6.5h), Qingdao (1.5-2h), Yantai (20min-1h), Jinan (3h), Rongcheng (20min), etc. 

Weihai is a harbor city, and there are more cruise ships and ports. The main ports are Weihai port, Longyan port, and Shidao Port. Among them, Weihai port is the most important one, mainly serving domestic ships, and Longyan port and Shidao Port are mainly international ports with ships to South Korea.

There are two ships in Weihai port. One departs from Dalian at 9:00 and arrives at Weihai at 17:00; the other ship leaves at 21:30 and arrives at Weihai at 4:00 in the morning of the next day, and the voyage is about 7-8 hours. The price of different cabin varies. The price of a third-class cabin is CNY 140-180, and that of a fourth-class cabin is about CNY 90-130.

Shanghai is about 960 km to the south of Weihai. Both flights and high-speed trains are available. As it is too long a distance, traveling by flight is more recommended.

By Flight: There are over 5 direct flights a day from Shanghai Hongqiao Internation Airport and Shanghai Pudong International Airport to Weihai Airport with a duration of about 2 hours on the flight. Please be noted that you are advised to set aside 2 hours for security check and boarding.

By High-Speed Train: There is one high-speed trains running from Shanghai Hongqiao Railway Station to Weihai Railway Station with a duration of 8.5 hours. It will be a little time-consuming and exhausting for such a long trip.

Qingdao is an international coastal city in Shandong. People always travel to Weihai after Qingdao because they are only 260 km away (about 4 hours by car) and the frequent high-speed trains can finish the transfer conveniently.

By High-Speed Train: It takes about 1.5 to 2 hours to reach Weihai from Qingdao. There are over 10 high-speed C trains and few G trains running between Qingdao North Railway Station and Qingdao Railway Station to Weihai Railway Station from about 07:00 in the morning to 21:00 at night.

By Private Car: Private car is less recommended but it is also an option and doesn’t take that long time thanks to the well-paved highway between Qingdao and Weihai.

Taian is where sacred Mount Tai locates.It is about 585 km (7 hours by car) to the southwest of Weihai. There is no normal train to Weihai from Taian and taking a car is time-consuming. High-speed train is the most recommended traveling way.

By High-Speed Train: There are about 4 high-speed G trains every day from Taian Railway Station to Weihai Railway Station and Weihai North Railway Station. Two trains depart in the morning around 08:30 and the other two are in the afternoon. The duration by high-speed train from Taian to Weihai is about 4 to 4.5 hours. There are no normal trains running between them.

Travel Around in Weihai City

▶ City Bus: There are hundreds of bus lines in Weihai, which can conveniently reach the main blocks and scenic spots in each district. The main ticket price is 1-1.5 yuan, among which bus No.4, No.7 and No.12 can reach the main scenic spots of Weihai City, and the "happy coast 幸福海岸" tourist bus is also provided (operation time: 8:30-14:00). This bus line connects Weihai's tourist wharf, grape beach bathing beach, golden beach bathing beach, and Weihai International bathing beach, providing a convenient transfer for tourists.

▶ Taxi: It's very convenient to take a taxi in Weihai City. The starting fare of a taxi in the daytime is CNY 7 yuan within 2 kilometers, 1.5 yuan per kilometer for every another extra kilometer, and CNY 2 per kilometer for driving more than 8 kilometers. The starting fare at night time (22:00-5:00) is CNY 8 yuan within 2 kilometers. After 2km, CNY 2 per kilometer is for every another extra kilometer.

▶ Cruise Ship: There is a special cruise ship to Liugong Island at Weihai Tourism Wharf. The sailing time is about 20 minutes, and the ticket price is about 50 yuan for a round trip. It is not recommended to buy the cruise ship ticket only. The price for Liugong Island is about CNY 138, including the transfer from Weihai to the island by sea.
