Erlangjian area, which is close to Erlangjian Scenic Area, the essence of Qinghai Lake, is one of the most chosen accommodation areas. Hotels like Jiulong Hotel (九龙客栈) and Gesang Meiduo Hotel (格桑美朵酒店) will provide you with a comfortable stay. If you want to appreciate the most attractive sunset, Heimahe Town is a good choice. There are some homestays such as Qinghai Lake Tibetan Style Homestay (青海湖藏风民宿) but please be noted that the living condition maybe can only meet your basic accommodation needs.

Taer Monastery is about 28 km, 40 minutes’ drive to the southwest of Xining downtown. People usually charter a car to get there because taking a city bus needs at least 1.5 hours. Therefore, it is also most travelers’ choice to get back Xining downtown by car after a Taer Monastery visit.

If you decide to stay a night around Taer Monastery, please be kindly noted that most choices are homestays and inns that provide basic accommodation facilities. A relatively near star-hotel is the 4-star Holiday Inn Xining Hot-Spring (西宁温泉假日酒店), elegantly decorated and well-equipped, while the distance is about 13 km from the monastery.

Xining Caojiabao International Airport is about 33 km, 40 minutes’ drive from Xining downtown. In most case, it is recommended to accommodate in Xining downtown. But if you are arriving late or need to catch a flight in the early morning, and you just want to stay nearby, there are also some hotels you can choose. They may not be as good as the ones in downtown and there are not many restaurants or shopping malls, but they are enough for a rest. Recommended hotels are Xining Airport Hotel (西港航空酒店 ★★★), Haidong Caixia Homestay (海东彩霞民宿 ★★), Haidong Konggang Inn (海东空港驿站 ★★), etc.

Xining is the starting point and transfer center for a Qinghai tour. It’s suitable to spend 1 day discovering the top attractions in Xining, including the Kumbum Monastery, Dongguan Mosque, Tibetan Medicine & Tibet Culture Museum. The vast and beautiful Qinghai Lake, about 2.5 hours’ drive from Xining is the No.1 must-visit attraction. You can spend one day here appreciating the water scenery, hiking or biking along the lake or taking a Qinghai Lake cruise (cruise is only available from May to October). With one more day, you can expand trip to the Chaka Salt Lake, known as Mirror of the Sky for its stunning reflected natural landscape on the salt lake. Another day is needed. Usually, people take 3~4 days to visit the three destinations together to explore the cultural and natural highlights of Qinghai.
