Sites: Purple Mountain, Qixia Mountain
Overlooking Nanjing city, Purple Mountain (also known as Bell Mountain) is said to take its name from the color of the rocks. It is a picturesque area of gentle hills shaded by woodland and bamboo groves, dotted with villas. It also contains several of the most important attractions in Nanjing: Dr. Sun Yat-sen Mausoleum, Ming Xiaoling Mausoleum, Linggu Temple and Purple Mountain Observatory etc.
Qixia Mountain was reputed as “the first bright and elegant mountain of Jinling” by Emperor Qianlong. It is famous not only for the structure, the stone sculptures and the pagoda, but also for the clear spring, luxuriant plant life, especially the red leaves of maple trees. These are in full bloom on spring and autumn making these times very popular.

Sites: Xuanwu Lake, Mochou Lake
Xuanwu Lake, situated at the foot of Zhongshan Mountain, is one of the three most famous lakes in the southern area of Yangtze River, while the other two are West Lake in Hangzhou and South Lake in Jiaxing. There are five isles in Xuanwu Lake, which are Huan Isle, Ying Isle, Liang Isle, Cui Isle and Ling Isle, forming five scenic spots.
Mochou Lake took the name from the name of a young beautiful woman who lived in 5th century. She married a man in Nanjing and live a happy life until Lu was recruited to the army one day. She missed her husband day and night and turned into a lake finally. Entering the park, visitors are greeted by the rock display as well as the pond, fountains and pavilions.
