From Kunming Changshui International Airport to Stone Forest

Kunming Changshui International Airport (昆明长水国际机场) is located at Changshui Village, Guandu District in Kunming city, about 28km from Kunming city center (Jinma and Biji Archway 金马碧鸡坊) and 81km from the Stone Forest. It takes about 1.5 hours to get to Kunming Stone Forest from Kunming Airport by car.

For independent travelers who want to get to the Stone Forest directly, the most convenient way is by taking the airport special line buses running between two places, takes about 2 to 2.5 hours. There are 6 bus shifts from the airport to Stone Forest and 6 return buses every day. Check for more details about the running buses.

The city center of Kunming refers to the area around Jinma and Biji Archway (金马碧鸡坊) where most tourists choose to stay. From the city center, you can get to the Stone Forest by train or by bus.

By train

Kunming Station - Shilin Station (Train): You can take Local Bus K12 from Dongsijie (东寺街) to get to Kunming Station (昆明站) with about 40 minutes or you can take a taxi with less than 15 minutes. It takes about 1h 40mins to get to Shilin Station (石林站), take a taxi there, less than 10 minutes you will arrive at Stone Forest.

Kunming South Station - Shilin West Station (Bullet Train): If you want to take bullet trains to get to Stone Forest, you need to get to Kunming South Station (昆明南站) first, by taxi or subway with 1-1.5 hours. After get on the trains, you will arrive at Shilin West Station (昆明西站) with less than 20 minutes. Get off the train and take Bus A2 or Bus 99 to get to the Stone Forest, takes about 1 hour.

By Bus

Every day, there are a large number of tour buses running between Kunming Eastern Bus Station (昆明东部汽车客运站) and Stone Forest Scenic Area every half hour from 8:00 to 18:00, the whole journey takes about 2 hours.

Kunming Eastern Bus Station is about 14km from the city center, can be reached by subway Line 3 or you can take a taxi to get there with about 40 minutes.

Most travelers would plan a half day tour in the Stone Forest, visit the Stone Forest Scenic Area and take the rest of the day to visit the underground Karst World - Jiuxiang Cave or visit a typical Yi minority village - Nuohei Village. For those who want to have a deep tour in Stone Forest, after visiting the Stone Forest Scenic Area, you can continue your trip to Naigu Stone Forest to feel the majesty of the coal-black stone rise straight from the ground to the sky, then pay a visit to Dadieshui Waterfall which is the largest waterfall in Yunnan Province with a maximum drop about 90 meters.
