Hohhot belongs to a temperate continental and monsoon climate, with long and cold winter, dry and chilly spring, short summer and pleasant autumn. The weather there is most pleasant in summer and early autumn, especially in July, August and September, and thus this period of time is the considered as the best time to visit it!

How to Get to Hohhot?
Hohhot is located in the middle region of Inner Mongolia. It is accessible by high speed train and also flight and normal train.
Flights to Hohhot
Hohhot Baita International Airport (呼和浩特白塔国际机场) is about 15 kilometers and half an hour away from Hohhot downtown (Xinhua Square) by car. It has flights to Beijing (1.5 hrs), Shanghai (2.5 hrs), Guangzhou (3.5hrs), Zhengzhou (1.5 hrs), Xiamen (3 hrs), etc. Besides, it offers flights to other cities in Inner Mongolia, like Hulunbuir (2.5 hrs), Xilingol (1h), etc. You can ride the Hohhot Metro Line 1 or Airport Shuttle Bus Line 1 to the airport. High Speed Trains to Hohhot
Hohhot has two mainly used high speed train stations, namely Hohhot Railway Station and Hohhot East Railway Station. Hohhot Station (呼和浩特站) is the nearest to the city center. It has trains to/from Beijing (2.5 hrs), Taiyuan (4.5~5 hrs), Baotou (1~1.5 hrs), Ulanqab (1 h) and Ordos (1.4~2 hrs), etc. Hohhot Eat Railway Station is the largest train station in Inner Mongolia. It has bullet trains to/from Beijing (2.5 hrs), Taiyuan (5 hrs), Baotou (1~1.5 hrs), Ulanqab (1 h) and Ordos (1.4~2 hrs), etc.

Top Attractions & Thing to Do in & around Hohhot
Huitengxile Grassland
Huitengxile Grassland is located in the nearby Ulanqab City. It is about a 2-hour drive from Hohhot. At an altitude of 1,800 meters (5,900 feet) with strong winds, Huitengxile Grassland is "the Second Largest Wind Power Plant in Asia". Gigantic windmills are everywhere on the grassland, forming unique background for your selfies. Besides the windmills, Huitengxile Grassland also offers the lushest grass view amongst all the grasslands near Hohhot. And its Yellow Flowers Valley, a natural valley with gorgeous geo-park and cliffs that rare to see on grassland, is another highlight. From every May to September, the whole Huitengxile Grassland, especially the Yellow Flowers Valley, is dotted with beautiful wildflowers of yellow, red and more colors, welcoming the nature lovers.

Xilamuren Grassland is the first grassland in Inner Mongolia that opened to the public, and thus it has the longest service history and the best facilities and accommodation conditions for tourism. Dazhao Temple
Built in 1580, Dazhao Temple, or called Dazhao Wuliang Temple, is the first temple of Lamaism built in Hohhot. For hundreds of years, Dazhao Temple has long been the center of Tibetan Buddhism in Inner Mongolia and one of the most famous Buddhist temples in northern China. Silver Buddha, dragon carving and murals are the "Three Wonders" of Dazhao Temple. Silver Buddha refers to the 400-year-old statue of Sakyamuni enshrined in the temple, which is the one of the largest Silver Buddha in China. Besides, the resplendent Zhaomiao architecture, different kinds of colored sculptures and giant Thangka are also the reasons attracting the visitors to come.

Five Pagodas Temple
Five Pagodas Temple built in 1727 gets its name because of its unique shape of five sarira pagodas built atop a square pagoda. The building style of the temple is a mix of Jaya Seiya of Buddha in India and the old pagodas in China. It is full of exquisite brick carvings in the shapes of lion, elephant, Falun, golden wing bird, diamond pestle, Four Heavenly Kings in Chinese legends and so on. The most cherished carving is the Mongolia Astronomical Map, which is the only astronomical map in the world marked in Mongolian. Visitors can stroll around and climb to the top of the base of the temple cluster to admire its architectural art and trace its history.

Inner Mongolia Museum is located in the downtown area of Hohhot. It is the only comprehensive museum of the whole autonomous region and the earliest museum established in ethnic minority areas. The 4-layer museum has four basic display halls, including paleontological fossils displays, Inner Mongolia historical relic displays, Inner Mongolia ethnic cultural relic displays, Inner Mongolia revolutionary cultural relic displays.
