Why Visit Wanfenglin?

Karst Landscape Miracle of Fabulous Peak Forest

Wanfenglin, also called "Forest of Ten Thousands Peaks" (万峰林), is a core part of the Xingyi World Geopark and hailed as the "Epic of Karst Landform over Hundreds of Millons of Years" for its countless limestone peaks. Nearly 20,000 cone-shaped peaks, formed over 200 million years and densely packed, are the result of ancient geological movements that transformed a vast sea into the current karst terrain. Peaks' heights vary mostly from 800 to 1,600 meters above sea level, with an average elevation of about 1,200 meters. Xu Xiake (徐霞客), the great traveler in the Ming Dynasty, visited Wanfenglin twice and left a poem "there are so many mountains in the world, but only here the peaks form a forest". (天下山峰何其多,唯有此处峰成林。)

Cultural Treasure Trove of the Bouyei Ethnic Group

Wanfenglin is not only a masterpiece of natural landscape but also a living showcase of the Buyi ethnic culture. Bayin Zuochang (八音坐唱), also called Bouyei Eight-Tone Folk Performance, is the traditional folk storytelling art form passed down through generations by the Buyi people. It has a history of over a thousand years and has been recognized as a "national intangible cultural heritage". Traditional villages provide an authentic window into rural life, offering a tranquil and unspoiled environment that serves as a refreshing retreat from the hustle and bustle of urban living. Tourists can experience activities such as rice field fishing, tie-dyeing workshops, and cycling through the scenic routes to connect with the land and its people.
