Top 10 Shenzhen Checkpoints

Till June 2019, there are all together 9 checkpoints on service for Chinese and international people, which are Luohu Port (Lo wu Port), Huanggang Port, Futian Port, Wenjiandu Port, Shenzhen Wan Port, Shatoujiao Port, Shekou Port, Shenzhen Bao’an International Airport and West Kowloon Station Port. And a new one - Liantang Port is said to be under application in late 2019. Check the details of each port at below to know its opening hour, visitors flow rate, location, transportation, etc. before you travel from Shenzhen to Hong Kong or from Hong Kong to Shenzhen.

Luohu Port (Lo wu Port) - Most Used One with Better Transportation

Opening Hour: 06:30-24:00;

Clearance Time: 10-15 minutes; usually no more than 25 minutes in peak hours (Very Busy, especially during 08:00-24:00);

Location: Renmin South Road, Luohu District, Shenzhen (深圳市罗湖区人民南路 - 罗湖口岸); 1-1.5 hours from Shenzhen International Airport by car;

Transportation from Shenzhen downtown: 20 minutes to Luohu Station by Shenzhen Metro Line 1; nearest stop: Huochezhan Bus Station;

Transportation to Hong Kong: walk to Lo Wu Station to take Hong Kong MTR East Line;

Suitable For: independent travelers, tourist groups, business people, etc.;

Special Services: a “Blue Line” is set there, and additional channel will be opened for inspection if the queue goes beyond the line. E-channel for Hong Kong and Macau residents and E-channel for Mainland China residents are available.

Luohu Port or Lo Wu Port is the busiest and oldest one in Shenzhen. As very conveniently connected by Luohu Checkpoint metro station and other public bus, and with Shenzhen Luohu Railway Station and the popular Shenzhen Luohu Commercial City in very short distance, Luohu Port is most chosen for people going between Shenzhen and Hong Kong. Thus, there usually are a lot of people queuing for border crossing, particularly during China official holidays.

Luohu Port

Huanggang Port - Only One Port Opening 24 hours A Day

Opening Hour: 00:00-24:00;

Clearance Time: within 15 minutes; usually no more than 25 minutes in peak hours (Busy, especially during 00:00-02:00 and 07:00-24:00);

Location: Futian South Road, Futian District, Shenzhen (深圳市福田区福田南路 - 皇岗口岸); about 40-60 minutes from Shenzhen International Airport by car;

Transportation from Shenzhen downtown: 20 minutes by car; nearest bus stop: Huanggang Port Bus Station, Lianhe Square Bus Station;

Transportation to Hong Kong: take the shuttle bus to Lok Ma Chau Station to transfer on Hong Kong MTR East Line to downtown;

Suitable For: independent travelers, tourist groups, private car (only Shenzhen Hong Kong license).

Huanggang Port is the only port offering service 24 hours a day in Shenzhen, so this port is a top choice for people visit Hong Kong for shopping. From Shenzhen, you can get to this port by many buses, and after you go through the procedure, you just get on the shuttle bus to Hong Kong Lok Ma Chau Port and transfer to Hong Kong MTR East Line to get anywhere in Hong Kong for fun and business and to Hong Kong International Airport for outgoing flight boarding. Huanggang Port

Futian Port - Seamless Connection with Shenzhen Bullet Train

Opening Hour: 06:30-22:30;

Clearance Time: within 10 minutes; usually no more than 25 minutes in peak hours (Very Busy);

Location: Intersection of Yuheng Road and Guihua Road, Futian District, Shenzhen (裕亨路与桂花路交叉口 - 福田口岸); about 30-50 minutes from Shenzhen Baoan International Airport by car;

Transportation from Shenzhen downtown: 20 minutes by car; 30 minutes to Futian Checkpoint station by Shenzhen Metro Line 4; nearest bus station: Futian Port Terminal;

Transportation to Hong Kong: Walk to Lo Mak Chau Station to take Hong Kong MTR East Line;

Suitable For: independent travelers and tourist groups.

Futian Port at Futian District is a major choice for people who want to go cross between Hong Kong and Shenzhen by rail. As Shenzhen Metro Line 4 stops there at the Futian Port Station and Hong Kong MTR East Rail reaches there at Lok Ma Chau Station, with a passenger bridge linked, people can directly take Shenzhen Metro and Hong Kong MTR there very quick and convenient after the inspection in the Entry and Exit Hall. Furthermore, Futian Railway Station stands there side by Futian Port, so this port is a better one for those planning to enter Hong Kong after reaching Shenzhen by high speed train without tiresome transfer.

Futian Port

Wenjindu Port - Relatively Crowded One in Luohu

Opening Hour: 07:00-22:00;

Clearance Time: within 10 minutes (Not Busy);

Location: No.1006, Dongmen South Road, Luohu District, Shenzhen (深圳市罗湖区东门南路1006号 - 文锦渡口岸); about 50 minutes from Shenzhen Baoan International Airport by car;

Transportation from Shenzhen downtown: about 10 minutes by car; nearest bus station: Wenjindu Passenger Bus Station South Stop, Wenjindu Checkpoint Bus Station; Airport bus are available;

Transportation to Hong Kong: take buses to Hong Kong Tsim Sha Tsui, China Hong Kong Port, etc.;

Suitable For: independent travelers, tourist groups, Hong Kong and Macau residents.

Wenjindu Port in Luohu District is relatively not so busy, so it is very fast to go through the checking there. Travelers can get there by local Shenzhen buses, airport bus or taxi. After the clearance, you can take the coach to downtown Hong Kong, including Tsim Sha Tsui, China Ferry Terminal, etc.

Shenzhen Wan Port - For Direct Bus to Hong Kong Airport

Opening Hour: 06:30-24:00;

Clearance Time: 10-15 minutes; usually no more than 25 minutes in peak hours (Busy);

Location: No.1 Dongbin Road, Nanshan District, Shenzhen (深圳市南山区东滨路1号 - 深圳湾口岸); about 40 minutes from Shenzhen Baoan International Airport by car;

Transportation from Shenzhen downtown: about 40 minutes from Luohu downtown and 30 minutes from Futian downtown by car; nearest bus stop: Shenzhenwan Checkpoint Bus Station;

Transportation to Hong Kong: Take direct bus to Hong Kong International Airport, downtown, etc. Take bus to Tin Shui Wai Station to take Hong Kong MTR West Line;

Suitable For: independent travelers, tourist groups, private car (only Shenzhen Hong Kong license);

Special Services: special one port for entry and exit procedures for passenger car is adopted at his port.

Shenzhen Wan Port or Shenzhen Bay Port is located at the east edge of Shekou area in Nanshan District, which is a little far from Shenzhen downtown and needs about 40-60 minutes to get to from the Luohu downtown area by car. If you are planning to go to Hong Kong to take international flight directly, this port is a top selection as there are some directly buses from Shenzhen Wan Port to Hong Kong International Airport, and it needs a riding of only about 50 minutes. Also, you can take bus at the port to Hong Kong downtown, Disney Resort to have more fun.

Shekou Port - For Ships to Hong Kong / Macau

Opening Hour: 07:00-22:30;

Clearance Time: 10-15 minutes; usually no more than 25 minutes in peak hours;

Location: Haiyun Road, Nanshan District, Shenzhen (深圳市南山区海运路 - 蛇口口岸); about 40-60 minutes from Shenzhen Baoan International Airport by car;

Transportation from Shenzhen downtown: about 50 minutes from Luohu downtown by car; nearest bus station: Shekou Cruise Port bus stop;

Transportation to Hong Kong: direct ship to China Ferry Terminal, Macau Ferry Terminal, Tuen Mun and Hong Kong International Airport;

Transportation to Macau: direct ship to Macau Maritime Ferry Terminal;

Suitable For: independent travelers, tourist groups, visitors to HK Airport, visitors to Macau;

Special Services: pre-boarding service of boarding pass and luggage for passengers to Hong Kong International Airport; free queuing service for passengers taking flights and international cruise; green channel service for tourist groups.

Shekou Port is a large cruise port chosen by many passengers transferring to Hong Kong and Macau by cruise. Passengers can take the ship from the larger port to get to Hong Kong China Ferry Terminal, Macau Ferry Terminal, Tuen Mun and also can reach Hong Kong Airport for international flight catching. Besides, you can get from Shenzhen to Macau Maritime Ferry Terminal in Macau directly.

Shenzhen Baoan International Airport - Helicopter to Macau

Opening Hour: 00:00-24:00;

Clearance Time: around 15 minutes;;

Location: Baoan Avenue, Baoan District, Shenzhen (深圳市宝安区宝安大道 - 深圳宝安国际机场);

Transportation from Shenzhen downtown: about 50-60 minutes from Luohu downtown by car; about 1 hour to Airport Station by Shenzhen Metro Line 11 and Line 1 / 2;

Transportation to Macau: directly helicopter to Macau Maritime Ferry Terminal;

Suitable for: independent travelers, tourist group, business people;

Special Services: unlimited clearance service for passengers if the flights are available.

Shenzhen Baoan International Airport offers the Sky Shuttle flights between Shenzhen and Macau. By taking the helicopter, you can reach Macau for only 15 minutes in day time and 25 minutes at night. Usually, the helicopters are available on every Saturday, Sunday and Monday and about 3-4 times a day.

Shenzhen Baoan International Airport

Fuyong Port (Within Shenzhen Airport) - Liner to Hong Kong Airport, Macau, Zhongshan

Opening Hour: 08:00-21:00;

Clearance Time: 5 minutes for entry and 10 minutes for exit (only for take a cruise to Hong Kong for flight catching or take a cruise to Macau for traveling);

Location: Baoan Avenue, Baoan District, Shenzhen (深圳市宝安区宝安大道 - 福永口岸); 20 minutes from Shenzhen Baoan International Airport terminal by shuttle bus; 50-60 minutes from Luohu downtown by car.

Fuyong Port is in the southwest of Shenzhen Baoan International Airport and is only 5 minutes’ driving distance from Terminal 3 of Shenzhen Airport. This checkpoint offer direct cruise between Shenzhen and Hong Kong International Airport, Shenzhen and Macau Taipa, Shenzhen and Zhongshan. However, cruises to Hong Kong International Airport are only available for people reaching there for flights.

Hong Kong West Kowloon Terminus for China Hong Kong Bullet Train

Opening Hour: 06:30-23:30;

Clearance Time: around 10 minutes; usually no more than 30 minutes in peak hours;

Location: West Kowloon, Jordon, Hong Kong (香港佐敦西九龙 - 香港西九龙站); about 0.5 hour from Hong Kong International Airport by car;

Transportation to Hong Kong Central: about 20-30 minutes by car; about 30 minutes by Hong Kong MTR Tsuen Wan Line;

Suitable For: independent travelers, tourist group, business people;

Special Services: one port for both entry and exit procedures is used.

Hong Kong West Kowloon Terminus located in Hong Kong Tsim Sha Tsui is the terminal station of Guangzhou Shenzhen Hong Kong Railway and has high speed trains to and from mainland China cities, including Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Dongguan, Beijing, Shanghai, Guilin, Hangzhou, Xiamen, Kunming, etc. As the policy of one port for both entry and exit procedures is implemented in this station, passengers taking bullet trains between Hong Kong and mainland China cities can go through the clearance checking very conveniently at this one port.

Hong Kong West Kowloon Terminus

Shatoujiao Port - More Used for Trunks

Opening Hour: 07:00-22:00;

Clearance Time: 5-10 minutes; usually no more than 25 minutes in peak hours (Not Busy);

Location: No.51, Shashen Road, Yantian District, Shenzhen (深圳市盐田区沙深路51号 - 沙头角口岸); about 60-80 minutes from Shenzhen Baoan International Airport by car;

Transportation from Shenzhen downtown: About 20 minutes from Luohu downtown by car; nearest bus station: Sanjiadian Stop, Shatoujiao Checkpoint Bus Stop and Shatoujiao Customs Bus Stop;

Transportation to Hong Kong: take cross-border bus to Hong Kong downtown or Hong Kong International Airport;

Suitable For: independent travelers, tourist groups, business people.

Shatoujiao Port in Yantian District is relatively a little far from Shenzhen downtown area and is most used for trunks. However, passengers can also go to Hong Kong from this checkpoint as there are some cross-border buses from Shajiaojiao to Hong Kong International Airport and Kowloon Tong area, and you can transfer to Hong Kong Central, Tsim Sha Tsui, Disney Resort, by local MTR.

Shatoujiao Port

Liantang Port - New One Opening Soon

Liantang Port at southwest corner of Liantang Street in Luohu District in Shenzhen is another large land checkpoint mainly for freight transportation. According to the official new, it will be put into use in late 2019.

How to Cross Shenzhen Hong Kong Border?

To go through Shenzhen Hong Kong checkpoints is not so difficult, let's take the popular Luohu Port as example and see the process step by step:

Step 1: Arrive at the Customs Hall in Shenzhen and follow the sign “To Hong Kong”;

Step 2: Find the sign for foreigners;

Step 3: Follow the sign to foreigners’ inspection passage;

Step 4: Pass the 1st China Immigration Inspection with your passport and visa document to leave Mainland China (Foreign people usually go the “Manual Lane”);

Step 5: Follow the sign to pass the 2nd Inspection to enter Hong Kong;

Step 6: Transfer to Hong Kong downtown by MTR / bus / car, etc.
