Guangzhou-Kowloon Through Train (Chinese: 广九直通车 or廣九直通車) is an inter-city railway service between Hong Kong and Guangzhou. Those Z-trains depart from Guangzhou East Railway Station (Guangzhoudong 广州东站) and arrive at Hong Kong Hung Hom Station (红磡站) within 2 hours. Every day, there are about 12 scheduled Tough Trains running from Guangzhou to Hong Kong, some of them are KTT double-decker trains and others are the common single-decker trains. Passengers taking the Trough Trains will go through the immigration formalities before departing from Guangzhou East Railway Station and on arrival at Hong Kong Hung Hom Station. Though the high speed trains are the best recommended for your journey, Guangzhou-Kowloon Through Trains are also good options, especially when there is no high speed train left.

Guangzhou and Shenzhen (the right next door to Hong Kong) are connected with about 200 daily bullet trains, among which about 77 trains will arrive at Shenzhen Railway Station (深圳站), where you can go through the immigration facilities and take MTR at the nearby Luohu Port (罗湖口岸) to Hong Kong. Therefore, you can travel from Guangzhou to Hong Kong via Shenzhen. The travelling time of the bullet trains is about 0.5-1.5 hours, and the MTR takes about 1 hour. Get to Hong Kong from Guangzhou via Shenzhen is a good alternative option, particularly when the tickets of direct bullet train and through train are sold out. However, it is not a good idea for the travelers with heavy luggage, because you have to get off and get on the train and MTR many times.

The ferry route from Guangzhou to Hong Kong is a more leisurely way into the city. The ferry terminals in Guangzhou are Lianhuashan Port (广州番禺莲花山港) and Nansha Port Port (广州南沙客运港), and the arrival terminals in Hong Kong are China H.K. City Terminal (香港中港城码头) and Sky Pier (HKIA 香港机场海天码头). The ferry journey takes about 50-110 minutes.

Taking ferry to Hong Kong from Guangzhou is an uncrowded choice, because all the ports in Guangzhou are a little bit far from the downtown area and thus travelers to go by boat are relatively fewer than other ways. For the tourists who are looking for a more leisure and unique way to Hong Kong, this must be your best choice. However, you are not allowed to take the ferries in severe weather such as typhoon, because all the ferries will be suspended.

Travel from Guangzhou to Hong Kong by coach needs about 3.5-4 hours, about 30 minutes to go through the immigration formalities is included. You will arrive at one of the crossing ports in Shenzhen or Zhuhai to go through the immigration formalities first, like Shenzhen Wan Port (深圳湾口岸) and Huanggang Port (皇岗口岸), and then continue the journey to Hong Kong. 7. Guangzhou to Hong Kong Flight - The Most Costly Way

About 2 nonstop flights will fly from Guangzhou to Hong Kong every day, which take only about 1-1.5 hours. However, considering the high price and there are many other ways you can choose, you are not really suggested to take those flight unless you prefer taking flights more.
