- Day 1 Fuzhou Arrival & Fuzhou City Tour (B, L)

Welcome to Fuzhou, the capital of Fujian Province with a perfect mixed flavor of ancient and modern. Upon arrival, your local tour guide will meet you with a sign on which says your names at the arrival hall in the airport or train station. Then, escort you to Fuzhou downtown to explore Fuzhou’s ancient history and stories during China’s modern history.
You first stop will be The Ancestral Hall and Museum of Lin Zexu. Lin Zexu is a national hero in China who famously suppressed the importation of opium and sparked the First Opium War that started the first page of Chinese modern history. Here, you will find a huge sculpted relief recreating his world-famous movement of destroying over 1,150,000 kg of opium publicly. Besides, there are plenty of valuable exhibitions of him, like his handwritten couplets, manuscripts and notes, for you to know his entire life and what China was like when he lived.
Next, you will visit Sanfang Qixiang that is only 200 meters or so from The Ancestral Hall and Museum of Lin Zexu. Sanfang Qixiang, which is translated to Three Lanes and Seven Alleys in English, is the best-kept and most prosperous historical blocks in Fuzhou. It enjoys the reputations of “Top 10 Famous Historical and Cultural Streets in China”, “The Beverly Hills of Imperial China”, “Museum of Chinese Architecture of Ming and Qing Dynasties”, etc. You will stroll around these famous lanes and alleys in between over 270 ancient dwellings built in Ming and Qing Dynasties (1368~1912) there to feel Fuzhou’s prosperity in both ancient and modern times. Besides, you can try different kinds of Fuzhou snacks there. (If you want to stay more time at Sanfang Qixiang for dinner and relaxing, please let your guide know)

Arrival Ideas: At present, there are abundant international and domestic flights to Fuzhou. Besides, you can ride a high speed train to this capital city from Xiamen (1.5~4.5 hrs.), Shanghai (4~7 hrs.), Shenzhen (5~5.5 hrs.), Guangzhou (6 hrs.), Huangshan (2.5 hrs.), Wuyishan (1~1.5 hrs.), Xiapu (1~2 hrs.), etc.

This morning, drive about 15 minutes to West Lake Park, the former imperial garden of the King of ancient Fujian. Known as the "Pearl of Fujian Garden", West Lake Park with a long history of over 1,700 years is the best classical garden in Fuzhou and even Fujian. Stroll around the tranquil lake, elegant pavilion, ancient temple and bridges. Feast your eyes on the mirror-like lake view surrounded by poetic weeping willow. If you like, you can also join the locals for morning excising, singing and dancing, etc.
Next, drive about 1 hour to Drum Mountain Scenic Area (Gushan). After arrival, you will ride a cable car up the mountain (about 20 minutes) to Yongquan Temple, which is an ancient temple with a long history of over 1,300 years and is praised as the Crown of Buddhist Temples in Fujian. Roam among the intricate temple complex with altogether 25 halls in large and small to find its origin and learn its important position in Buddhist circles in Fujian and even China! Then, it is followed by a leisure hiking experience getting down the Drum Mountain, which will take about 1 hour. On your way hiking down the mountain, you will be hugged by lush trees and learn interesting folk legends caved on the rocks from your guide.
Later, drive about 1 hour to the Museum of Chinese Ship Administration Culture at Mawei Port, the cradle of Chinese navy and ship administration culture. The museum is the first one in China that built in the theme of ship administration. When looking this 5-story museum in front of you, you will find it is in a unique design like two battleships riding the wind and waves. Stepping inside, you will then find vivid models of real Chinese ships in different period of time. Besides, there are lifelike models and basso-relievos that show you how the ancient Chinese learned and designed ships.
