Chengdu, often celebrated as the home of adorable pandas, offers so much more than just its furry inhabitants. This vibrant city is a blend of rich history, modern culture, and tantalizing cuisine. From its bustling street markets to trendy neighborhoods, Chengdu pulses with life and creativity. On this day, my friend and I set out to explore the city’s unique charm through a combination of art, culture, and delicious food.

After a simple breakfast, I set off from my home in Chengdu and headed to the East Suburb Memory Subway Station to meet my friend. East Suburb Memory, formerly known as "East Suburb Memory Music Park", is built on the site of the former Hongguang Electronic Tube Factory in Chenghua District and is currently the only industrial site transformation project in the southwest. It is known as "China's West End of London" and was selected as one of Chengdu's top 10 "Tianfu New Coordinates" in 2018 (Industrial heritage + cultural creativity + characteristic tourism). Once the cradle of Chengdu's electronics industry, it has now transformed into a cultural landmark full of fashion and vitality. Beautiful Architecture in East Suburb Memory

I have been to East Suburb Memory many times. In 2017, there were not many people. Science and technology exhibitions, comic exhibitions, art exhibitions, and so on were held there. However, it is totally different now. Starting from about 2022, East Suburb Memory has ushered in a boom after a new upgrade. There are a lot of people in the "Chengdu Wall". If you do not want to wait for a long line, you can do the same as me, going to the second-floor platform on the opposite side to get a nice view.

At noon, my friend and I left the park and took the subway from Fangcao Street station. The name "Fangcao", which means "green grasses", perfectly reflects the station's decor, filled with lush green elements that created a refreshing atmosphere we truly enjoyed. Once we arrived at Yulin Road , we stumbled upon a charming café known for its exquisite decoration. The inviting ambiance made it the perfect spot for us to relax and savor our lunch, surrounded by beautiful design and the lively energy of the area.

Shirley's Wonderful Time on Yulin Road

Yulin Road is not only one road, but an area connected by a network of small streets. Tree-lined here, there are many fashion clothing stores, vintage shops, grocery stores, dessert shops, restaurants, and so on. You feel the real life of Chengdu people here. Besides, there are cafes just everywhere, where many foreigners often spend their afternoon.

My day with my friend was over. We went shopping and took photos together in the morning and chatted with each other in the cafe and shared interesting things about life in the afternoon.
