HighlightsHongya Cave, Three Natural Bridges, Longshuixia Gap, Furong Cave, etc.
We decided to make a side trip this summer holiday as we only have 3 days. Beyond the city sites, we are keen on some places related to nature. We finally selected Chongqing downtown and Wulong Karst. The schedule was a little bit tight, but it turned out to be just fine, as Chongqing, near Chengdu, is equipped with good transportation facilities. I would like to share our Chongqing trip with you now.

Day 1 (Chengdu - Chongqing): Meet 8-D Magic Chongqing City
By taking the morning train, we arrived at Chongqing North Station at around 10.30. The first thing was to check hotels nearby, and then we walked around Jiefangbei Square (解放碑). It was raining, so we went into the Dongjianshancheng (洞见山城) pathway, a feature of Chongqing, which used to be an air raid shelter, and now shops and local restaurants for most parts, while still some were not open to visitors. Walking through the road, we arrived at Hongya Cave (洪崖洞). Famous for its stunning night view, it is more like a shopping center in the daytime, including various shops selling local snacks, ornaments, etc. Our kids preferred here.
Hongyadicui (洪崖滴翠)
Later, we took the Chongqing Light Rail Transit Line 2 and visited the Chongqing Eighteen Stairs Traditional Style Area (重庆十八梯) to admire the night view of traditional Chongqing architecture and local life.
For the Changjiang Cableway (长江索道), since there was no round-trip ticket left, we had to miss it. Maybe next time.

Day 2 (Chongqing - Wulong): Unveil Wulong Karst Geological Marvels
By taking a 2-hour train, we arrived at Wulong Karst Geopark, about 130km away from Chongqing. It is an ideal summer resort for local Chongqing people. However, for tourists like us, it is more famous for its attractions including Three Natural Bridges, Longshuixia Gap, Furong Cave, and Fairy Mountain. Today we will visit the first two sites.
Tour buses are running from Fairy Mountain Tourist Center (仙女山游客中心) to Three Natural Bridges. It takes us 15 minutes to get to Three Natural Bridges. Then among three travel routes to visit it, we choose the classic one: to take the elevator down to step on the three bridges including Tianlong Bridge (天龙桥)、Qinglong Bridge (青龙桥) and Heilong Bridge (黑龙桥). But since it’s in peak time, we queued for about 1 hour before we were able to get into the elevator. At about 14:30 we began our visit, and the whole scenic area took us no more than 2 hours. After that, we took another scenic bus to Longshuixia Gap, for about 15 minutes. The waterfall in the midway is a highlight, which surprised all of us. More than 1 hour later we finished our trip and went back to the hotel near the tourist center.

Notes:
1. Three Natural Bridges:
(1) In peak season if you choose the glass elevator, you may queue for a long time.
(2) For those who do not want to queue for the elevator in the Three Natural Bridges, you can choose route 2, which needs you to walk about 20 minutes down.
2. Longshuixia Gap:
(1) If you want to avoid the crowd, you can visit the Longshuixia Gap first and then go to Three Natural Bridges.
(2) The Longshuixia Gap is closed to visitors at 17:00 and the tour bus will wait for the last visitor to come before driving back to the Fairy Mountain tourist center.
(3) Some roads in Longshuixia Gap are slippery and quite narrow. Kids and seniors need to be careful.
Day 3 Wulong - Chengdu: Explore Dazzlingly Colorful Furong Cave
Today we arrived at Furong Cave after one hour’s driving. Located in Jiangkou Town (江口镇) on the south of Fairy Town (仙女镇), Furong Cave stands on a hill and is equipped with cableways of 1.88km. During the 10-minute way, we overlooked the view of the Furong River with green water and its Karst landform. Today there were few people and it’s quite cool, even chill in the cave. The colorful stalactites of different shapes are extremely spectacular. The staff told us that those stalactites only grow one centimeter within 100 years. Wow, really a masterpiece of Nature!

Furong River
After the cave visit, we did a leisure cruise trip to the Furong River (芙蓉江) until 12:30.
Time to say goodbye. The driver transferred us to the Wulong Station. We took the train back to Chongqing and then to Chengdu.
Chongqing is also the starting point of the Yangtze River Cruise, one of China’s most typical and popular trips. Are you interested in the Chongqing trip? Come with me! Have a look at our Chongqing Tour Packages, and if you have any ideas or questions, you can feel free to contact me.
