Nyingchi to Lhasa Trains: Schedule, Ticket, Fares, Stations 2024
Lhasa-Nyingchi Railway, Tibet’s first electrified railway, opens on June 25, 2020, which marks Tibet gets the first Fuxing bullet train and enters the Fuxing bullet train times as other Chinese regions. From now on, the journey between Nyingchi and Lhasa is shortened to 3.5 hours and the around 7 hour between Nyingchi and Shigatse. Special engines and oxygen supply system has been used to ensure passengers a comfortable ride experience on the advanced Fuxing trains.
At present, there are 3 trains departing from Nyingchi Railway Station to Lhasa Railway Station daily. Two of them are Fuxing bullet trains take about 3 hours 40 minutes and one is a normal speed train spending over 4 hours.

The Lhasa Nyingchi Railway with a total length of 435.48 km (270.6 mi) begins from Lhasa Railway Station, and then runs eastward through Shannan District and stops at Nyingchi Railway Station finally. It can be linked with the Lhasa Shigatse Railway, offering direct trains between Shigatse and Nyingchi for about 7 hours.

Transportation: about 18.5 km, 30 minutes’ drive to Nyingchi City; about 135 km, 2 hours’ drive to Bamsum Tso Lake; about 52 km, 1 hour 10 minutes’ drive to Lulang Forest; about 33 km, 40 minutes’ drive to Nyingchi Mainling Airport.

Transportation: about 13 km, 30 minutes’ drive to downtown Lhasa; about 7 km, 20 minutes’ drive to Potala Palace; about 8 km, 25 minutes’ drive to Barkhor Street and Jokhang Temple; about 6 km, 15minutes’ drive to Norbulingka; about 13 km, 30 minutes’ drive to Sera Monastery; about 60 km, 1.5 hours’ to Ganden Monastery; about 172 km, 3 hours’ drive to Namsto Lake; about 52 km, 50 minutes’ drive to Lhasa Gonggar Airport.

How to Plan Your Lhasa Nyingchi Tour
With more flights and trains, Lhasa is usually used as the gateway to Tibet and the first station for a Tibet tour. Most travelers spend 2 to 3 days visiting the landmarks in Lhasa. On the arrival day, you’d better have a rest to acclimatize yourself to the high altitude. On the following days, you can take one day to visit the iconic Potala Palace and Jokhang Temple and Barkhor Street nearby, another day for the Norbulingka, Sera Monastery and Drepung Monastery. If time allows, it’s highly suggested to visit the sacred and beautiful Namsto Lake.
If you drive from Lhasa to Nyingchi, you can drop by Ganden Monastery in suburb Lhasa and Kading Valley and Bamsum Tso Lake before arriving in Nyingchi. When in Nyingchi, you can take one day to visit the Lulang Forest and the old King Cypress. If you visit Nyingchi in spring (end of March to mid-April), you can visit a local village to enjoy the romantic peach flower blossom.
