Beijing to Hohhot Travel: By High Speed Trains, Flights

Option 1: Beijing to Hohhot by High Speed Train - Top Recommended

● Frequency: about 25 runs per day

● Train Time: about 2 hours 10 minutes ~ 2 hours 50 minutes

● From & To: Beijing North北京北站, Qinghe 清河站 → Hohhot East呼和浩特东站, Hohhot 呼和浩特站

Along with the opening of Beijing-Zhangjiakou High Speed Railway and Zhangjiakou-Hohhot High Speed Railway on December 30, 2019, the famous Beijing Hohhot High Speed Railway was also finally opened at the same time. The new HSR connects Beijing and Inner Mongolia much closer, making a day trip from Beijing to discover charming nomadic culture more easier to accomplish.

Every day, there are nearly 25 trains running between Beijing and Hohhot. All of them are G high speed trains, running from 07:15 and 19:45. Besides, there are also about 10 runs of K and T normal trains leave from Beijing/Beijing West Railway Station and reach Hohhot/Hohhot East Railway Station from the early morning to late night. The whole journey takes 9-10.5 hours.

Beijing North Railway Station 北京北站

Location: No.1 North Binhe Road, Beida Street, Xizhimen, Xicheng District, Beijing 北京市西城区西直门北大街北滨河路1号

Transportation: The reconstructed Beijing North Railway Station is located about 10 km to downtown (Tiananmen Square), to Forbidden City for nearly half an hour’s drive. It takes about 1.5 hours’ driving (70 km) to Mutianyu Great Wall and Badaling Great Wall in north suburb. Except some city bus lines, the station is connected by subway via Beijing Metro Line 2, 4 and 13.

Beijing Qinghe Railway Station 北京清河站

Location: Qinghe Street, Haidian District, Beijing 北京市海淀区清河街道

Transportation: Qinghe Railway Station is situated outside the 5th ring road in north of Beijing. It so far only operates a few city bus lines. Beijing Metro Line 13 has a station there. Taking our private driving and a taxi is the most recommended way to transfer to city center area.

Hohhot East Railway Station 呼和浩特东站

Location: Wantong Road, Xincheng District, Hohhot, Inner Mongolia 内蒙古呼和浩特市新城区万通路

Transportation: Hohhot East Railway Station has expanded to be the largest passenger station in Hohhot, almost 5 times big than Hohhot Railway Station. It lies close to down town and only 6 km of the Hohhot Baita Airport (direct airport shuttle bus is available), about 10 km to Hohhot Railway Station. Taking a taxi or private driving from Hohhot East to Inner Mongolia Museum needs within 10 minutes, about 30 minutes (13 km) to the Five Pagoda Temple, half an hour to the Great Mosque.

Hohhot Railway Station 呼和浩特站

Location: No.41 East Chezhan Road, Xincheng District, Hohhot, Inner Mogolia 内蒙古呼和浩特市新城区车站东街41号

Transportation: Hohhot Railway Station is a small old train station serving Hohhot both for normal train and some high speed train lines. After arrival, it takes about 20 minutes to get to Inner Mogolia Musem by car, and 20 minutes (about 6 km) to Five Pagoda Temple and just 10 minutes to the Great Mosque in Hohhot.

● From & To:  Beijing Capital International Airport (PKX) → Hohhot Baita International Airport (HET)

Every day, there are about 7 direct flights from Beijing to Hohhot between 09:00~20:30 and 7 flights leave from Hohhot to Beijing between 07:35 - 16:00, which usually takes around 1.5 hours.

✈ Beijing Capital International Airport (北京首都国际机场 IATA: PEK)

Location: Jichang West Rd, Chaoyang District, Beijing (北京朝阳区机场西路)

Located in the northeast of Beijing, Beijing Capital International Airport is about 25 km away from Tiananmen Square, the center of Beijing, and it takes at least 100 CNY to the downtown by taxi. As one of the largest and busiest international airport in the world, it serves numerous international/regional flights which connect China with almost every continent of the world. There are also lots of domestic flights from/to every provincial capital city and other major cities in China. 

✈ Hohhot Baita International Airport (呼和浩特白塔机场 IATA: HET)

Location: Jichang Road, Saihan District, Hohhot City, Inner Mongolia (内蒙古自治区呼和浩特市赛罕区机场路)

Hohhot Baita International Airport is located 17 km away from downtown (Xinhua Square), usually taking about 0.5 hours to transfer by car. You can take Metro Line 1 to get to Hohhot city center for about 35 minutes. Baita Airport is the largest aviation hub in Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. By the end of May 2020, the airport has opened a total of 154 domestic and foreign airlines, connecting more than 90 cities.

How to Get There: Flights from Beijing (1.5h), Shanghai (2.5h), Harbin (4.5h), Guangzhou (3.5h), etc. and bullet train from Beijing (2.5~3h), Datong (2.5h), etc.

Usually, visitors spend 2~3 days to visit Hohhot, including one day to explore the highlights in the city, like Dazhao Temple and Inner Mongolia Museum, and 1~2 days to have fun at the nearby grasslands, like Huitengxile Grassland or Xilamuren Grassland.
