How to Get from Beijing to Chengde

Beijing to Chengde by Train - Recommended

There are majorly 4 railway stations in Chengde, namely Chengde Railway Station, Chengde East Railway Station, Chengde South Railway Station, and Xinglong Railway Station. By the end of 2020, the high-speed railway between Chengde and Beijing will start operating with the capacity of handling about 55 bullet trains per day with an average duration of only one hour. For normal trains, from about 8 am to 0:30 am the next day, there are about 15 normal trains leaving from Beijing Railway Station/Huairou Railway Station/Beijing East Railway Station for Chengde Railway Station/Xinglong Railway Station with a duration of about 1.5 to 9.5 hours.

Where to Take a Train in Beijing

There are two railway stations operating high-speed trains to Chengde, namely Beijing Railway Station and Beijing Hongqiao Railway Station.

Beijing Chaoyang Railway Station (北京朝阳站) - High Speed Train Station to Chengde

Location: Yaojiayuan North Road, Chaoyang District, Beijing 北京市朝阳区姚家园北路

Transportation: Beijing Chaoyang Railway Station is located in the northeast of Beijing, near Chaoyang Park. Travelers can take metro line 3 or line 14 to get there.

Beijing Railway Station (北京站) - Normal Trains to Chengde

Where to Get off the Train in Chengde

Chengde South Railway Station (承德南站) - High-Speed Train Station to Chengde

Location: East side of Dongnan Shanzhong street, Shuangqiao District, Chengde City, Hebei Province 河北省承德市双桥区东南山中街东侧

Transportation: Chengde South Railway Station is only about 9km to Chengde downtown area and about 14km to the Imperial Summer Palace of Mountain Resort. You can easily get to the Imperial Summer Resort by taxi (about 30min) or Bus 68, 69, etc.

How to Get to Jinshanling Great Wall: Jinshanling Great Wall is located in the southwest of Chengde city about 86km away from Chengde South Railway Station (about 1.5-2 hours by car). There is no direct bus to get to Jinshanling Great Wall. The only way is to drive or charter a private car.

Chengde Railway Station (承德站) - Normal Trains to Chengde

Location: No.235, Station Road, Shuangqiao District, Chengde City, Hebei Province 河北省承德市双桥区车站路235号

Transportation: Chengde Railway Station is only about 2.5km to Chengde downtown area and about 3km to the Imperial Summer Palace of Mountain Resort. You can easily get to the Imperial Summer Resort by taxi or Bus 15, 5, K1, 29, 2, 13, etc.

How to Get to Jinshanling Great Wall: Jinshanling Great Wall is located in the southwest of Chengde city about 87km away from Chengde Railway Station (about 1.5-2 hours by car). There is no direct bus to get to Jinshanling Great Wall. The only way is to drive or charter a private car.

Beijing to Chengde by Bus

Besides trains, many tourists would choose to take a direct long-distance bus to Chengde from Beijing. Every day, from about 5:40, am, am to 7:10 pm, there are over 50 buses departing at Sihui Bus Station 四惠客运站/Liuliqiao Bus Station 六里桥客运站 in Beijing to Chengde Bus Station/Chengde East Bus Station with a duration of 4 ~ 5 hours. The bus ticket fare is about CNY 85 per person.

How to Get to Imperial Summer Palace of Mountain Resort: It's only about 8km from Chengde East Bus Station to the Imperial Summer Palace. You can take a taxi and get there within about 20min or take bus 29, 13, 1, 9 to get to this Imperial Summer Resort.

How to Get to Jinshanling Great Wall: Jinshanling Great Wall is located in the southwest of Chengde city about 83km away from it (about 1.5-2 hours by car). There is no direct bus to get to Jinshanling Great Wall. The only way is to drive or charter a private car.
