Shanghai Chongqing High Speed Railway & Train Map 2025
Located along the Yangtze River, Shanghai and Chongqing are blessed with beautiful cityscape and waterscape. Generally, Shanghai is always planed as the first or last stop in China because it is connected with many major cities in different countries by international flights. Chongqing, also known as Mountain City, has attracted thousands of travelers with Yangtze River Cruise and featured landscape nearby. Every day, there are 16 pairs of high speed trains running between Shanghai and Chongqing, including 6 pairs of G-trains and 10 pairs of D-trains. It takes about 10.5 ~ 14 hours to travel between Shanghai and Chongqing by high speed train, about 13 hours less than normal K-trains and 5 hours less than normal Z-trains.

In fact, there are three railways connecting Shanghai and Chongqing. 2 of them are 2,469 kilometers (1,534 miles) long, one passing through Jiangsu Province, Henan Province, Shaanxi Province and Sichuan Province while the other passing through Zhejiang Province, Jiangxi Province, Hunan Province and Guizhou Province. Another high speed railway, with a distance of is 1,672 kilometer (1,228 miles), is frequently used for the D-trains of Shanghai Chongqing High Speed Train. Starting from Shanghai, it passes through Jiangsu Province, Anhui Province and Hubei Province. There are 18 midway train stations along the railway, including Suzhou (苏州), Nanjing South (南京南), Hefei South (合肥南), Yichang East (宜昌东), etc.

Shanghai Hongqiao Railway Station (上海虹桥站)
Shanghai Hongqiao Railway Station is a high speed railway station situated in No. 1500, Mingui Road, Minhang District (上海市闵行区申贵路1500号), about 25km to Lujiazui (about 50 minutes’ driving). Built next to Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport, you can transfer between Shanghai Hongqiao Railway Station and Terminal 2 of Shanghai Hongqiao Airport within 10 minutes by walk. If you want to go to the railway station from Shanghai Pudong Airport, you can take maglev train first and then take metro Line 2. Shanghai Railway Station(上海站)
Located in No. 303, Moling Road, Jing'an District (上海市静安区秣陵路303号) in the downtown, Shanghai Railway Station is much closer to some of Shanghai’s top attractions than Shanghai Hongqiao Railway Station. It is 5 kilometers (about 20 minutes’ driving) to the Bund, 5 kilometers (about 15 minutes’ driving) to Shanghai Museum and 7 kilometers (about 20 minutes’ driving) to Yuyuan Garden. There are airport shuttle buses running between Shanghai Railway Station and Shanghai Pundong International Airport. Metro Line 1, Line 3 and Line 4 are available to take you there from different directions. Shanghai Railway Station operates both high speed trains and normal trains.
Chongqing North Railway Station (Chongqingbei Railway Station, 重庆北站)
There are 6 railway stations in Chongqing, but Chongqing North Railway Station is the most frequently-used one. It is located in No. 51 #8 Kunlun Avenue, Yubei District, Chongqing (重庆市渝北区昆仑大道51号附8号). There are two station halls in Chongqing North Railway Station – North Square Hall and South Square Hall. All high speed trains are operated by North Square Hall. North Square Hall can be reached by light rail Line 10 and Line 3. If you get there by light rail Line 3, you need to get off at Longtou Temple Station (龙头寺站) and walk to the railway station. If you want to go to Chaotianmen Port for a Yangtze River Cruise tour, calling a taxi is the best way, or you need to take subway, public bus and then walk.
Chongqing West Railway Station (Chongqingxi Railway Station, 重庆西站)
Located in Fengzhong Road, Shapingba District of Chongqing City (重庆市沙坪坝区凤中路168号), Chongqing West Railway Station is the largest railway station in west China. It is about 22 kilometers (1 hour’s driving) to Chaotianmen Port and 40 kilometers (1 hour’s driving) to Chongqing Jiangbei International Airport. There are airport shuttle buses available to transfer to the airport from Chongqing West Railway Station, and they take about 2 hours. Both Shanghai and Chongqing are attractive riverside cities. You are suggested to spend 4 ~ 10 days exploring Shanghai and Chongqing. It needs 2~3 days to enjoy the landmarks in Shanghai, like the Bund, Shanghai Museum, Yuyuan Garden, etc. Usually, 1 day is enough to visit the highlights of Chongqing city, like E’ling Park, Ciqikou Ancient Town and Three Gorge Museum. If you have more time, you can visit Dazu Rock Carvings which is listed in World Cultural Heritage Sites and Karst Landscape in Wulong. Of course, it is strongly recommended to take a Yangtze River Cruise from Chongqing to Yichang which takes 4 additional days.
