Turpan Train Stations | Turpan North Railway Station

There are two railway stations operated in Turpan City, namely Turpan North Railway Station (吐鲁番北站) and Turpan Railway Station (吐鲁番站). Turpan North Railway Station operates both high speed trains and normal trains to/off many other cities in inland China while Turpan Railway Station usually runs normal trains to/off other cities in Xinjiang. Generally, travelers like to take a high speed train to Turpan from Gansu (Lanzhou, Zhangye, Jiayuguan, Dunhuang…) and Xining (Qinghai). Besides, there are many other railway stations in different counties of Turpan. Shanshan North Railway Station (鄯善北站) located in Shanshan County is also a frequently chosen railway station because it offers a quick access to Kumtage Desert. All high speed trains to Turpan take a stop in Shanshan North Railway Station as well.

Address: Northwest of Gaochang District, Turpan City, Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region (吐鲁番市高昌区新丝路与交河大道交叉口), 14 km (about 30 minutes’ drive) away from Turpan Downtown, 2 km (about 8 minutes’ drive) from Turpan Jiaohe Airport, 16 km (about 30 minutes’ drive) from Jiaohe Ancient City, 11 km (about 20 minutes’ drive) away from Karez Museum.

Turpan North Railway Station was built in 2013 and opened in 2014 when Lanzhou-Xinjiang Railway began to operate. The main structure and the square are mainly in earthy yellow, fully embodying the feature of Turpan – an oasis in barren desert. The main structure of the railway station has two floors, the upper floor is equipped with entrances and ticket windows and the lower floor is equipped with exits. From Tupan North Railway Station, you can conveniently take a public bus or taxi to the downtown area.

Generally, a classic Turpan tour takes 2 ~ 3 days. If your time is limited, you can focus on the essence of Turpan City. We suggest you spend 1 day touring the highlights of Turpan City, such as Karez System - a magic project bringing out underground water to this barren land, Turpan Museum where lots of historical exhibits including mummies are collected and Jiaohe Ancient City - the world's largest and oldest city ruins, and another day exploring its attractive surroundings, including Bezeklik Thousand Buddha Cave with exquisite murals & profound Buddhist culture, Flaming Mountain Grand Canyon with breathtaking landform, and peaceful Mazar Village (in Tuyuk Valley) where people still live traditionally. Of course, it's far from enough if you just visit Turpan. Travelers always travel Turpan with Urumqi - the tourist center in northern Xinjiang together.
