Hohhot Train Stations | Hohhot Railway Station & Hohhot East Railway Station

• Chinese: 呼和浩特东站
• Location: Nandian Village, Wantong Road, Xincheng District, Hohhot (呼和浩特市新城区万通路南店村), about 12 kilometers & 25 minutes to Hohhot downtown, about 6 kilometers & 10 minutes to Hohhot airport and about 13 kilometers & 0.5 h to Dazhao Temple by car.
• Metro Passing Through: Metro Line 1 at Hohhot East Railway Station (Subway Station)

Hohhot East Railway Station is the largest and busiest modern passenger station in Inner Mongolia. It runs over 80 trains a day, and about half of trains are bullet trains (high speed trains). It conveniently connects Hohhot with cities like Beijing (2~3 hours), Ulanqab (0.5~1 hour), Baotou (1~1.5 hours), Ordos (1.5~2 hours), Datong (2.5~3 hours), Taiyuan (around 5 hours), etc.

• By Metro: Hohhot East Railway Station is accessible by Hohhot Metro Line 1. By taking the Metro Line 1, you can get to/from Hohhot East Railway Station from/to Hohhot downtown in 30~40 minutes.
• By Taxi/Car: Usually, it needs about 25 minutes to drive to Hohhot East Railway Station from Hohhot downtown.
• By Bus:There are also public buses like Loop Bus 5 and Bus No.28, etc. connect Hohhot East Railway Station with downtown area. The whole journey might take around 50 minutes.

Hohhot East Railway Station from/to Hohhot Airport (Hohhot Baita Airport)

• By Metro: Hohhot Metro Line 1 well connects the Hohhot Baita Airport with the East Railway Station. It takes about 30 minutes to transfer between two sites.
• By Taxi/Car: It only takes 10~15 minutes to drive from the Hohhot airport to the East Railway Station. Estimated taxi fare is around CNY 20.
• By Bus: Travelers may also take Airport Shuttle Bus Line 1, public buses No.12 and No. 133, etc. to get to the Hohhot East Railway Station.

Hohhot is about 12 km away from Dazhao Temple, there is no direct metro or public bus connecting two places, therefore, the most recommended transportation is by taking a taxi or car. The whole journey takes about 30 minutes.

Hohhot East Railway Station to Nearby Grasslands

The only way to get to grasslands near Hohhot (Xilamuren Grassland, Huitengxile Grassland, etc.) is by taking private cars.

• To Xilamuren Grassland: The driving distance between Hohhot East Railway Station and Xilamuren Grassland is around 80 km, which takes 1.5~2 hours by car.
• To Huitengxile Grassland: Huitengxile Grassland is about 100 km away from Hohhot East Railway Station. It takes 1.5~2 hours transferring between two places by car.

Hohhot Railway Station is the closest train station to Hohhot downtown, with a short driving distance for 2 kilometers around in between them, which needs only 10 minutes around by car. The platform of Hohhot Railway Station is divided into north and south squares. The platform 3 and platform 4 are in the north square are for normal speed stations. Platform 1 and 2 in South Square are high-speed railway platforms. It serves most bullet/normal trains from/to Beijing (2~3 hours), Baotou (1~3 hours), Zhangjiakou (1.5~7 hours), Ulanqab (0.5~3.5 hours) and Ordos (1.5~4.5 hours), etc. and normal trains from/to Shanghai (over 24 hours), Xian (12.5~14 hours), Chengdu (23.5 hours), Guiyang (27 hours), Harbin (26 hours) and Qingdao (24 hours), etc.

Hohhot Railway Station from/to Hohhot Airport (Hohhot Baita Airport)

• By Taxi/Car: The driving distance between Hohhot Railway Station and Hohhot Baita International Airport is around 15 km, which takes 30~35 minutes by car.
• By Metro: Hohhot Railway Station is also well connected with the airport by metro. Visitors need to make an internal transfer (Line 1<-> Line 2) at Xinhua Square Station (新华广场站).
• By Airport Shuttle Bus: Visitors can also take the airport shuttle bus 1 from the Hohhot Railway Station (Bus Station) and get to Hohhot Baita Airport Station directly within 40 minutes.

Hohhot Railway Station is about 4 km away from Dazhao Temple. Taking a taxi or car is the most recommended way, it only takes about 15 minutes. There are also some local buses that take you to the place nearby Dazhao Temple, but you need to walk at least 1 km to reach your final destination.

Hohhot Railway Station to Nearby Grasslands

The only way to get to grasslands near Hohhot (Xilamuren Grassland, Huitengxile Grassland, etc.) is by taking private cars.

• To Xilamuren Grassland: The driving distance between Hohhot Railway Station and Xilamuren Grassland (Xilamuren Town) is about 75 km, which takes around 1 hour and 20 minutes by car.
• To Huitengxile Grassland: Huitengxile Grassland (Huanghuagou Scenic Area) is about 110 km away from Hohhot Railway Station, which takes 1.5~2.5 hours by car.

There is a limited number of cities outside the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region which links Hohhot by high-speed trains. The most common used departure city is Beijing. However, for those who departure from Shanghai, Hong Kong, Guangzhou or Shenzhen, etc. There is no high-speed train connecting those destinations with Hohhot, and normal trains usually take more than 1 day. Usually, visitors spend 2~3 days to visit Hohhot, including one day to explore the highlights in the city, like Dazhao Temple and Inner Mongolia Museum, and 1~2 days to have fun at the nearby grasslands, like Huitengxile Grassland or Xilamuren Grassland.
