Harbin, the capital of Heilongjiang Province, and a significant railway hub in Northeast China, is the famous Ice City and an important gateway to Russia by land. Based on the opened Harbin Dalian High Speed Railway and Harbin Qiqihar High Speed Railway, Harbin is connected with Shenyang, Jilin, Dalian, Dandong, Qiqihar and major cities in Northeast provinces, and other large cities including Beijing, Shanghai, Tianjin, Qingdao, Zhengzhou, Jinan and Shijiazhuang, etc. Besides, a high speed railway from Harbin to Vladivostok, Russia is planned as part of One Belt & One Road.
High Speed Trains to/from Harbin
There are both normal trains and high speed trains travelers can take to get to Harbin. And roughly, there are more than 100 high speed trains running from/to Harbin every day. Most destinations are located in north regions of China. After visiting landmarks and finishing interesting winter activities in Harbin, you can have a further exploration to Inner Mongolia in the west by conventional trains or have an overland driving to Russia from the north border areas. Please note that Xian and Guangzhou has no high speed trains to Harbin yet.

Also, Tianjin, Dalian, Shenyang, Changchun are popular starting point to Harbin within a few hours. Since the Shanghai Harbin High Speed Train takes more than 11 hours, it’s highly suggested to visit major tourist cities en route to reduce the tediousness during the long journey or take a time-saving flight directly.
● Beijing Harbin High Speed Train

Distance: 1,331 km/827 miles
Duration: about 5 ~ 6 hours
With highly developed transportation with cities in home and abroad, Beijing is the most convenient city heading to Harbin. If you plan to spend a winter holiday differently and join the Frozen World in reality, you could catch high speed trains all the way north to Harbin, crossing Tianjin, Qinhuangdao, Shenyang and Changchun. Then your winter will turn to be super colorful and lively with various kinds of ice and snow sculptures, ice lanterns and exciting winter activities.
Every day, there are over 10 high speed trains running from Beijing to Harbin. The whole journey normally takes 5 ~ 6 hours. Passengers taking G trains will depart from Beijing Chaoyang or Beijing Railway Station and arrive at Harbin West or Harbin Railway Station.

● Shanghai Harbin High Speed Train
Railway Stations: Shanghai Hongqiao - Harbin West
Distance: 2,422 km/1,505 miles
Duration: about 12 hours
At present, Shanghai is another south destination that Harbin is directly linked with. Compared to the previous normal trains for nearly 24 hours, the high speed train journey from Shanghai to Harbin has been greatly shortened to half the duration. As the only daily high speed train to Harbin, G1204 train departs at 09:30am and terminates in Harbin at 21:54pm. Because this 2422km-long journey takes over 12 hours onboard, passengers are recommended to stop by Nanjing, transfer in Beijing or take a 3 hours’ flight to Harbin.

● Shenyang Harbin High Speed Train

Distance: 543 km/337 miles
Duration: 2 hours ~ 3 hours 20 minutes
Shenyang is the capital city of Liaoning Province, which is located in the south of Harbin. With the operation of the 921km-long Harbin Dalian High Speed Railway, Harbin and Shenyang, Changchun, Dalian are conveniently connected with each other in northeast China. It takes less than 3 hours to travel to Harbin from Shenyang, passing through Changchun of Jilin Province.
Between 07:30 am in the morning to 21:30 pm in the evening, there are more than 40 trains available. G47 train is the fastest train from Shenyang to Harbin, costing only 2 hours. G941 is the last train that arrives in Harbin at 23:30 pm.

Harbin has 5 train stations used for passenger transportation, including Harbin West Railway station, Harbin Railway Station, Harbin North Railway Station, Harbin East Railway Station and Xiangfang Railway Station. Harbin Railway Station, the second largest railway hub in Northeast China, is located in the city center of Harbin. There are five railways meet here, including Beijing-Harbin Railway Line, Harbin-Suifenhe Line, Harbin-Manzhouli Railway Line, Harbin-Bei’an Railway Line, and Lafa-Harbin Railway Line.
Travelers to Yabuli Ski Resort can also take a train here. The train journey from Harbin to Yabuli takes about 3 hours.
Harbin West Railway Station

Harbin West is the most frequently used high speed train station in Heilongjiang Province, which handles trains to Beijing, Tianjin, Shanghai, Shenyang, Dalian, Qingdao, Jilin, and Shenyang. You can get to the station by local bus, coach, Metro Line 3 and taxi, and transfer to Harbin Ice and Snow World within 30 minutes.
Harbin East Railway Station
Address: No.1, Huashu Street, Daowai District, Harbin (哈尔滨市道外区桦树街1号, 哈尔滨东站)
Harbin East Railway Station is settled on the east end of Harbin Metro Line 1. From this station, you can catch high speed trains to Beijing, Tianjin, Dalian, Shenyang, etc.
