As of March, 2020, Zhangjiajie Hehua International Airport and Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport are connected with direct flight three times a week respectively on Tuesday night, Thursday afternoon and Saturday afternoon. The flight only takes 1h40min and is no doubt the fastest way. On the days there are no direct flights, you can take a transfer flight in other cities such as Shenzhen and Nanjing, but it will need at least 6.5h. Get from Zhangjiajie to Chengdu by Train - Lower Budget (12h)

There is one daily train running from Zhangjiajiexi Railway Station to Chengdu Railway Station. You will depart at midnight and arrive at noon. As it is an overnight train and runs for about 12 hours, it is highly recommended to get a hard sleeper or soft sleeper ticket so that you can have some rest on the train.
