Funny Facts about Forbidden City

The Forbidden City, together with the Palace of Versailles in France, Buckingham Palace in United Kingdom, the White House in United States and the Kremlin in Russia, is known as the world's five great palaces. Following the order of Yongle Emperor (Zhu Di 朱棣, the third emperor of the Ming dynasty), the Forbidden City was constructed from 1406, the fourth year of his reign, and completed in 1420. It took one million civilian workers 14 years of hard work and continued to be restored and rebuilt over the next hundred years to present the largest ancient imperial palace complex in the world.

In the past, the Forbidden City, as the highest power center over five centuries and the residence of the emperor, was not allowed to approach or enter by ordinary people, hence the name Forbidden City. But now, the Forbidden City was renamed the Palace Museum and opened to the public in 1925. Forbidden City is not forbidden anymore.
