Badain Jaran Desert (巴丹吉林沙漠) spans Inner Mongolia, Gansu and Ningxia in the northwest of China. However, the airport currently only operates one air route between Alxa Right Banner and Bayanhot Airport (IATA: AXF) in Alxa Left Banner. Get to Badain Jaran Desert by Train
For train travelers, the most popular and recommended gateway city is Zhangye in Gansu, because the train stations in Zhangye are merely 220 km, 3 hours’ drive to Badain Jaran Desert and they are well-connected with many destinations along the Silk Road, such as Xian, Lanzhou, Dunhuang, Jiayuguan, Xining, Urumqi, Turpan. In addition, you can take a train to Lanzhou, Jiayuguan, Jinchang in Gansu and then transfer to Badain Jaran Town.
