Shanghai, where the west meets east metropolis, is located in the Yangtze River Delta in East China and bounded to the east by the East China Sea. Jiuhuashan, also called Mount Jiuhua, is located at Qingyang County, Chizhou City in Anhui Province. Jiuhuashan is in the west of Shanghai, about 430 kilometers away.
To travel between Shanghai and Mount Jiuhua, travelers can take flights, trains, Long-distance buses, or private cars. While, the high-speed train is a comfortable and fast way to transfer between Shanghai and Mount Jiuhua. It is cheaper and with more daily schedules than flights, while it is faster than cars and buses. China Discovery recommends you take a high-speed train (bullet train) to go between Shanghai and Mount Jiuhua (Chizhou, Anhui Province).

Shanghai to Mount Jiuhua by Bullet Train - Most Recommended
There are two railway stations near Mount Jiuhua - one is Jiuhuashan Railway Station at the foot of Mount Jiuhua, another is Chinzhou Railway Station which is about 40km from Mount Jiuhua. The whole Shanghai Jiuhuashan High Speed Railway is measured for about 522km (324miles). Every day, there are about 3 high speed bullet trains leaving from Shanghai Hongqiao Railway Station to Jiuhuashan Railway Station with the duration about 4 hours. Comparing with Jiuhuashan Railway Station, Chizhou Railway Station receives more high speed trains from Shanghai (around 12 trains).

Where to Take a Train in Shanghai
There are two railway stations operating high-speed trains to Mount Jiuhua, namely Shanghai Railway Station and Shanghai Hongqiao Railway Station.
Shanghai Railway Station (上海站)
Location: No.303, Moling Road, Jing'an District, Shangai (上海市静安区秣陵路303号 上海火车站)
Transportation: Shanghai Railway Station is located on the north of city center. Travelers can take metro line 1 to Renmin Square, Shanghai Museum, Nanjing Road; metro line 3 to Shanghai South Railway Station and Zhongshan Park. > Check more about Shanghai Railway Station
Shanghai Hongqiao Railway Station (上海虹桥站)
Location: No. 1500, Shengui Road, Minhang district, Shanghai (上海市闵行区申贵路1500号 上海虹桥站); driving about 20km to the downtown.
Transportation: Shanghai Hongqiao Railway Station is close to Terminal 2 of Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport. Travelers can take metro line 2 to Renmin Square, Nanjing Road, The Bund, Jing’an Temple, Lujiazui Area; take metro line 10 to Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport, Shanghai Zoo, Xintiandi, Yu Garden, The Bund, Nanjing Road. > Check more about Shanghai Hongqiao Railway Station
Shanghai Railway Station or Shanghai Hongqiao Railway Station? Shanghai Hongqiao is more recommended, where you can take a train to reach Jiuhuashan Railway Station directly.
Where to Get off the Train to Mount Jiuhua
Jiuhuashan Railway Station (九华山站)
Location: Qingyang County, Chizhou, Anhui (安徽省池州市青阳县 九华山站)
Transportation: Jiuhuashan Railway Station is located only about 6 kilometers from entrance of Mount Jiuhua. You can take public bus or taxi to Mount Jiuhua from after arriving at the railway station.
Chizhou Railway Station (池州站)Location: Yongming Road, Guichi District, Chizhou, Anhui (安徽省池州市贵池区永明路 池州站)
Transportation: Chizhou Railway Station is the main train station served in Chizhou and Mt. Jiuhuashan. It is located about 7 kilometers from downtown area. While, the distance between Chizhou Railway Station and Mount Jiuhua is 48 kilometers which takes 1 hour for transfer by car.
Jiuhuashan Railway Station or Chizhou Railway Station? Jiuhuashan Railway Station is more recommended. It is only about 6km from Mount Jiuhua. Chizhou Railway Station is about 40km from Mount Jiuhua, but it has more available train schedules.
How to get from Jiuhuashan/Chizhou Railway Station to Mount Jiuhua Scenic Area
By Tourist Bus: There are direct tourist buses offering free transfer from both Jiuhuashan and Chizhou Railway Station to Jiuhua Scenic Area for passengers who would purchase the sightseeing bus ticket of Mount Jiuhua. You can get on the tourist bus near the exit of Railway Station and purchase it just on the bus. The sightseeing bus ticket fare is not expensive, and it is a necessity for many leisure hikers. The operation time of the direct tourist bus is from 9 am to 5 pm with the departure interval of every 1 to 2 hours. Besides, if you are not going to take the sightseeing buses in the scenic area. There are also direct buses serving you to the scenic area from about 7 am to 5 pm with a fare of about CNY 12 per person. The departure site is also about 100 meters around the exit of the Railway Station.
The two kinds of direct tourist buses may usually take about 40mins to the parking lot of Mount Jiuhua Scenic Area.
By City Bus: There are also few city buses departing from the bus stop or Chizhou Railway Station to Jiuhuashan from about 6:30 am to 3:30 pm and the bus ticket is CNY 5 per person. Since there are lots of stops on your way to the Jiuhuashan and it takes more than 70mins to reach the Mount Jiuhua. Though the ticket fare is cheap, it is less recommended.

Suzhou lies in the west direction of Shanghai, about 100km (62 miles) away. Aside from the abundant Buddhist culture and relics, Jiuhuashan is also noted for uniquely attractive scenery. Thanks to its perfect location that overlooks the Yangtze River in the north and Huangshan (Yellow Mountain) in the south, Jiuhuahsan is featuring with magnificent peaks, murdering streams, bizarre rocks, beautiful waterfalls, seclude caves, etc.

Shanghai to Mount Jiuhua By Flight
30km away from Mount Jiuhua Scenic Area, Chizhou Jiuhuashan Airport serves seasonal direct flights to/from Shanghai Hongqiao Airport (IATA: SHA). The duration on the flight is about 1.5 hours. Since flights are few and extra hours are needed before your boarding, the actual duration is about the same by high-speed train, and taking a bullet train is much more preferable.

Location: Meilong street, Guichi District, Chizhou City, Anhui Province 安徽省池州市贵池区梅龙街道
Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport 上海虹桥机场
Location: 2550 Hongqiao Road, Changning District, Shanghai 上海市长宁区虹桥路2550号
Chinzhou Jiuhuashan Airport to Mount Jiuhua Scenic Area: There are few direct airport shuttles taking you to Mount Jiuhua Scenic Area directly in about 40mins. The shuttle bus fare is about CNY 20, and it only runs in the morning. Taking a taxi to Mount Jiuhua may cost about CNY 150.
Shanghai to Mount Jiuhua by Bus
There is one scheduled bus running from Shanghai Hutai Road Bus Station to Mount Jiuhua Scenic Area. Since it takes more than 6.5 hours to get to Mount Jiuhua and the bus leaves really early before 6 am, it is less recommended to take it and the bus fare is about CNY 155 per person.

How to Plan Your Shanghai Mount Jiuhua Tour
Shanghai is usually the gateway city to Mount Jiuhua. You need at least 2~3 days to explore must-visit sites include the Bund, Yu Garden, Shanghai Museum, Shanghai Towers. Only about 430km away from Mt Jiuhua, it is also not far from another beautiful Buddhist Mountain - Mount Putuo.
